I used a Shun for 2 years at a couple different restaurants, I loved it! I'd use these to hopefully recreate some of the dishes I loved making at those jobs, plus I'd use them for the day-to-day cooking at home.
Beautiful knives! Being a chef, I would use it all day long cooking whatever is on the menu for the day. Also, making other chefs jealous of how great that knife looks !!
I've had my sora 8" for the past three years, a gift from my significant other. I cook daily and this is my "edc" kitchen knife. I sharpen maybe once every 2 or three months. Not that I need too. I love this damn knife it's cut my finger tip off but all is well now, just a testament to how sharp this thing can be with regular maintence and care with everyday use. Absolutely a banger for the bucks
Loyal customer here and new subscriber! With this knife set I'd be able to put my benchmades (which should be reserved for bomb squad duty) away when coring and seeding poblanos and tomatoes when making fresh salsa for street tacos! I would also use the Santoku and Chef's knives for preparing dishes like Barramundi or Tilapia effortlessly chopping cilantro, scallions, shallot and wedging lemons for buttery garlic reductions. Let's not forget the roasted golden russet potatoes! Would be super stoked to add these bad boys to my KnifeCenter collection.
Definitely making anything that’s gonna require a lot of knife skills. So I can use this beautiful knife! It’s cold and rainy here at the moment so, a nice hardy homemade soup with lots of veg comes to mind!
My wife loves a Thai soup very similar to pho. It contains very thinly sliced beef, rough chopped vegetables and finely minced aromatics. Doing it right requires good knife skills and a very versatile knife. This Shun Sora chefs knife would excell at it all!
I would use it in my farmers market at my farm where I cut and grind fresh cuts of beef that I grow right here! These knives would be part of my family butcher shop for years to come.
honestly, the thing i use a chef's knife for the most is cutting up veggies for my dog's food. I use a Victorinox at the moment but have wanted an upgrade for a while now.
looking forward to using this Shun for making thin tomato and onion slices, clean cuts through sirloin and tenderloin, and just anything with a lot of veg prep - pasta primavera?! mincing bunches and bunches of parsley for tabbouleh!
LOOKS LIKE A GREAT KNIFE SET WITH GREAT MATERIALS. THESE WOULD BE PERFECT THE UP COMING BBQ SEASON AND MY FAVORITE STEAK AND/OR CHICKEN MEALS. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS.
I don't know that I would cook anything with this knife but I sure could prepare venison and beef for cooking and then slice and serve it after it was cooked. Vegetable prep would be a dream with this knife.
I would use it to slice veggies for szechuan beef, tacos, salads etc. I have two Shun knives now. They are each about 15 years old. I use an Apex Edge Pro system to keep them razor sharp.
Since I do all the prepping while cooking at home, I would prep a fabulous slow cook roast and let the wife do all the cooking. Man that's a beautiful blade.
What a great knife to prepare a robust and hearty beef stew. Large cubes of chuck roast, potatoes and carrots would be a breeze to prepare with this fine tool!
I’d slice up some wicked BBQ brisket and ribs. Oh not to mention a nice mixed salad. Knives look great and I’m sure they are work horses. Great contest thanks knife center!
You can't beat a quality chefs knife once you have had one you will never go back to your mistakes. Also I like the fact that Kershaw my favourite folding knife company and Shun are out of Oregon.
Mexican Dinner - the ultimate in chopping. From lettuce chiffons to shallots and avocados it's an endless smorgasbord or slicing, dicing, scraping and experimenting with different interpretations of this great meal! P.s. love your videos!
We eat a ton of organic fresh vegetables in soups that I cook and gourmet recipes that my wife cooks. Mostly we cut cabbage, carrots, celery, yams and beets, but some more exotic vegetables as well. I think we would love using this knife.
I literally just purchased my first Sora maybe two weeks ago. I love it. If I were to win I’d cook a simple dish of medium rare lamb with mushrooms and broccoli. I tend to keep my cooking plain, but the taste is great.
Bought my friend one for Christmas and was dumb enough to not get one for myself. Have helped him in his kitchen it's light saber sharp so would cook ewok
We're full on Paleo in this house so all kinds of meat and vegetables. Would love to cut up a butternut squash with a truly good knife. Thanks KnifeCenter!
This is a beautiful knife and the first thing I would cook for my family using the knife would be Fried Potatoes and Onions, this is one of the family favorites I cook passed down to me by my mother. Rope sausage paired with fried potatoes and onions add salt and pepper to your liking and add ketchup is you like, its comfort food that stays with you for a full days hard work.
My kitchen cutlery is seriously lacking, so this would be a godsend for me. I would primarily use it to trim steaks and meat, and to slice vegetables for grilling!
Looks like it's the perfect thing for prepping all the ingredients to put in my cast iron Dutch oven to make a beef roast with vegetables in my fire pit. After it's done, that'll let me slice the beef perfectly thin with ease.
My wife and I finally got our restaurant space and it will be open in the spring it’s called kollmeyer public house and you all should come and taste this tuna poke tower with bluefin tuna youzu poached gulf shrimp and crispy shallots... the knife would see good use love the channel
If I won this awesome knife I doubt I'd even use it its just too nice. Id display it on a magnetic knife holder and maybe play with it now and then but I know how I am its just too beautiful to use I'd want to keep it perfect...FOREVER!
Sweet! Loved to have a truly sharp kitchen knife! Making a salad would be so much easier than smashing the tomatoes, irregular sliced onions, and evenly cut bites of lettuce. Thanks for the great opportunity!!!
If I were to win I would like to put this through the paces chopping and dicing making soups and stews. I currently do not own a kitchen knife that minces well. I’d try that too.
I've been sick all day. Definitely would cook up some homemade chicken noodle soup. I've been in the market for good kitchen knives and this would springboard me into what I need.
Scrambled eggs. Truthfully, my dad would probably be doing the most cooking with the knife. Lots of vegetables to cut and the occasional roast, steak, or whole poultry to process. Really like the looks of Shun knives but have never taken the plunge on one yet. We'll have to work on our knife care before going for a fine knife like this.
I would make kimchi. I make kimchi several times a year and it requires a lot of chopping, slicing and mincing. This Shun Sora 8" Chef's knife would be perfect for those tasks!
