That’s because a case like this is better suited under an entertainment system shelf or on an entertainment system shelf. It’s how I use my computer, which sits right next to my TV because it’s not a laydown case. But if it were, it would just barely fit on the shelf of my entertainment system. My big screen TV stand. Which is how I use my computer, as an all in one entertainment system on a screen TV.
Unfortunately, they do not make many laydown cases so it’s nice to see them bringing them back at least a little bit or at least that’s an option although this one is just too thick to fit under my entertainment system based on what I can see in this video. I’d have to get the exact measurements. I would say it’s probably about 1 inch tall.

Horizontal used to be the standard. Everything else was odd. There were some advantaged to the switchover. No longer did cases need to be strong enough to support a monitor (crt's back then) and less desk space needed, none in some configurations. Of course now there are serious issues to vertical cases. Main one being the ginormous heat management solutions bending and breaking slots and cards and the level of re-enforcement needed for cpu coolers as well. Horizontal cases are due for a comeback now that that monitors weight much less ( a 32" 4k flat panel weighs less than most 14" crt's did) and no gpu sag/breakage and some interesting alternate cooling setups come to mind.

Horizontal cases never really went away completely. They just became niche.
Back in the early days, as many commenters noted, they used to be the standard, and towers were the weird thing.
Over time, towers became the "standard", and desktops (as we called them) gradually faded away.
Their memory lives on in large format cube cases. The most memorable sample I can think of immediately is Cooler Master's HAF XB (and Evo), which up until relatively recently you could still buy. Sadly it has since faded away. Love that case. Have one.

Silverstone SUGO 14 ITX did this years ago. Feet can be easily refit for horizontal/ vertical layout. As for horizontal layout, it was the norm during IBM PC days; the CRT would be above the case, utilizing desk space as well as bringing the monitor's top at eye level, which is more ergonomic. I use my ASUS AP201 case horizontally without the feet, it looks like a subwoofer next to my TV in the living room.

Thermaltake V21 probably before that, though it's larger to accommodate up to mATX. But then it also leaves more room for more and larger fans as well as general breathing-room. - You don't change just the feet on it, but the panels instead, as you can even remove the bottom and put it on the side or top, as to turn the entire frame around onto one of four sides. - It has its own issues here and there, but I love that thing, it just makes a lot of sense, even if it can be improved upon.

A bit outdated, but hasn't been topped in its design-principles. - I have it on my desk with the window-panel put towards me and the motherboard horizontally, but the kind-of weird thing is that you see the back of the GPU then, which isn't that weird, but it is when it has a design with text on it that's "upside-down" for when you look at it in a regular tower-configuration. - But you can also put the motherboard vertically on the other side, which then would have the GPU-fans up. And you could even put the motherboard upside-down if you want to. All four panels around are interchangeable, so have at it.

I like horizontal cases for the smaller motherboards, like Matx or Itx and the orientation also helps prevent the snapping of heavy graphics cards which seems to be common place in the news recently.

I am definitely liking the 900. I need to replace my Cooler Master LAN Box that I've been using for a very long time. Love the layout but lack of case filters has grown old on me. Unplugging everything to take it outside and dust it out every 5-6 months. I am going to miss the two hot swap hard drives though... damn.

they should sell fans with swappable or even reversable blades... a little disassembly required... just unscrew, remove cap, flip, put cap again, screw in reverse...

I like the horizontal cases, they just give you a little more options of where you want to put them since they aren't as tall.

I wish I had the dimensions for these cases because it would look DELIGHTFUL in my rack. My current pc is in a Phanteks P350X Eclipse and it slots PERFECTLY into a cantilever rack-mount shelf if you take off the feet. If either of these fit in, I know what my next case is gonna be.

None has done it as well as the Thermaltake V21, however... and that thing is outdated. Yet I won't stop using it until something does the same and better. - There's also that Cooler Master HAF one, but that's so outdated that it doesn't even support 140mm fans (except the 200mm in the top) and it has a much bigger footprint for no reason (unless you need an ATX motherboard for some reason), and you can't change the orientation either, unlike the V21.

Finally, another case with the motherboard in the CORRECT orientation. - However, Thermaltake figured "this" out like fifteen years ago or whatever. - Their Core V21 has never been beaten in its principles (even though it's flawed, but even their own follow-up didn't improve upon those flaws and actually became worse in ways). - You can put that case in just about every way you want, except for on the front or back (well, you could on the front, but you know... stupid). Yes, you could even put the frame upside-down, as all four panels around are interchangeable, even the bottom-plate with the feet on it, so you could even hang the motherboard upside-down. You don't need to change anything but the panels. - But the best way, of course, is to put it upright horizontally, which is the desktop-orientation, and then you of course have all the top as a mesh panel (unless you choose the window-panel, but yea) so heat can escape more easily. - So this one is still flawed in that aspect, with way too much glass. - Also, this is not symmetrical, the V21 is a lot closer to being that.

Video Suggestion - fantastic demo of a very flexible case. But as an old time PC owner, it was always my understanding that if you had a case sit one way for say 2 or more years. Then if you changed it to another layout, this could potentially "misalign" the heads on a MECHANICAL HDD. So my suggestion is --- now with SSD's with no moving parts --- is there anything else in a "typical" PC case that could be effected if you have the case one way for a year or two, then change it like you can here... could this still effect GPU / CPU / CPU Cooling / Power Supply in any way?

I like that one, almost got it around that same time, but didn't, and actually still want one to build something in. - But it's quite limited in terms of cooling and such, and indeed a quite large footprint. - I use the Tt V21 instead and that hasn't been topped in terms of its design-principles, and even that case is flawed.

I have a Thermaltake X9. The best case ever. Point. We are still seeking a company that makes something like that but better. There is still noone that did that. Those case showed on the video, used as horizontal stand, that is what we seek, are appealing but they are at the same time a bad design.
The frontal fans should be.. ON FRONT, not on a side panel. Since the glasses goes with an angle of 90 degree, the air flow is broken and will require a lot of time and pressure to flow on the components and go outside on the back.

Can we get one without tempered glass? I'd like more airflow and to use it as my monitor riser, so stamped aluminum would be pretty cool. No need for rgb fans. The strip on the outside should be distracting enough.

I wish case manufacturers would just remove all front IO and just give their cases a front 3,5" and 5,25" drive mount, and then sell options. Let us choose our own damn IO!
You want a floppy drive? Go for it. You want 10 USB-A ports? Go for it. You want a SD card reader? Sure, go for it.
What the hell am I going to do with just 2 USB-A ports?

I like this design And have been wanting cases that lay on their side however, this case appears a little too thick for what I need. Well I don’t need a super skinny case. My TV stand is only so tall between the shelves and this is just probably one or 2 inches a little too wide from the looks of it. They could’ve put some of the parts and further out tall and height.
Maybe have a dedicated laydown case who want to use it on their TV stands as their home entertainment system like I use my computer for.
