OnePlus Open 8 Months Later! In this video, we break down the OnePlus Open in detail to help you understand the full picture of the OnePlus Open now that it has been on the market for 8 months! Enjoy the video :)
im thinking about getting the open. but im not sure if its worth it? why do you prefer the open over the normal oneplus 12? I thought it would be nicer to watch ytb and stuff but as he said in the video its not really bigger. i would really appreciate if you could help me decide haha
honestly one of the best foldables out there id rather take this over the fold 5. one plus especially with the 12 and open have really been going to town. quick note you put sd 888 in the descrip[tion
I kinda struggle with people on the outside screen thing. I guess there is a market for it, but the compact nature of the Z Fold is just nice. I can easily one hand everything on the cover screen of the Zfold and when I need more, it almost invites me to open the phone. If I'm finding myself constantly wanting to use the cover screen, just kinda seems like a convience thing rather than a planned out experience. Why would I not want to use the inner screen more? Also, the more boxy Inner display is more comfortable to use, in my opinion. When you widen the cover screen, you inherently widen the inner screen, and it just doesn't feel right. That's just my perspective that I'd like to share because I feel a lot of people band wagon on this approach of a normal wide screen on the cover screen without thinking about the experience that was probably planned out. Also, Samsungs software and ecosystem just can't be replicated with One Plus and Pixel. Too much time and effort has been put into the galaxy ecosystem to be simply cast out by other brands so easily. Personally, Xiaomi and Vivo aren't even on my radar. Very compelling products but one, they are not sold in the US and two, there are some concerns with their data and privacy. Even if they were squeaky clean, i have no way of knowing that and coming from a country that dont have the best terms with the US, if I can, I will put my money somewhere else.
@@morenickackerman what does that even mean "daily driver foldable"? When I say daily driver, I mean for most people, your primary every day phone, your only phone. Definitely a shortcoming of a tech reviewer because you're also testing and reviewing many other phones as evidenced by your videos. I personally just think tech reviewers can't give a true example of what a person buying the phone would experience over the long haul.
This is just my own opinion, Samsung has the best software, Honor has the best hardware, OnePlus/Oppo has the most balanced between both software and hardware.
Had mine since release. Got the free bud pros 2 as well with it because I pre ordered. Both have held up fantastic and love it as much if not more than day one haha!
Got my open since around September I think. Dropped it a few times but still no issues. Battery still easily lasts a day. I do have to help it open fully as it started having that issue after a month. Also I held a fold6 yesterday. That screen still has a horrible crease. This screen is still much better and so is the open canvas system
I have seen complaints about dead pixels on the first usage and problems of connectivity with the wifi signal. I'd like to have that phone but in Europe there's no "trade-in" offer and the price never goes below 1600€ when there's a deal. And even then it's only if you can prove you're a student, Europe is really not getting any gifts. If I take the Oneplus 2 next year, which warranty pack would you advice me to take? I'm only scared of the screen problems related to dead pixels or crease.
I just ordered one to replace my Z Fold 5, because that new price is just too good. I'm looking forward to the bigger cover screen, and finally having some better cameras.
Why would you do that? They are both from the same generation with the same snapdragen gen 2 chip. Ironically the Fold 5 will have longer software support than the OnePlus Open.
@@deltaechomusicnh555 why? Bigger outer screen, and better cameras. Also, thinner, lighter, less expensive...I'm actually really enjoying the experience, and the transition was easier than I expected. I still have the Fold 5 , but other than testing the cameras, I haven't used it in a week.
I feel like the bars would be more on the video's end than it is on the phone. You also see it with shorts on PC as well, they just give you an enlarged upright phone window to look it at instead of the whole screen because changing the aspect ratio without support for it is just going to make things look very weird.
Once vivo and xiaomi come to the global market and start partnering with US carriers like huawei used to samsung is going to be in a world of trouble. The fold from samsung is pretty much the exact same from the first one. They can't keep putting out the same phone, raising the price and expect people to keep buying it
@morenickackerman I know that's the only thing I hate about the fold 5 and that's the reason why I didn't get it its irritating but you would be surprised how many people love that ting front screen for one handed use
@marcanthony2483 also emulation with ecosystem Samsung TV. I play MARIO 3D WORLD on my samsung TV wirelessly and use my s23 ultra as a controller and my tab s8n
It comes with one pre installed mine did and I don't plan on removing It I believe the manual or when you start up the phone says the warranty will be voided if you do
Let's not lie lol. The open is a great phone but it isn't ahead in spec (newest fold has the newest processor) and the design is subjective (the square design of the fold 6 looks better imo).
This phone looks like a real winner, but until they can create a seamless repair strategy it’s a no-go for me. Wireless charging and an improved Ingress Protection rating would also go along ways towards installing confidence in the foldables space.
Most manufacturers that aren't already big in USA or USA based aren't. You can look up the bands supported at opengsm I think and compare to the phone and carrier. USA gets fucked on phones. Samsung and Apple have a nearly impenetrable duopoly.
My OnePlus open internal screen failed after only 3 months of use 💔. OnePlus replaced it, and I'm waiting to try it after the screen replacement. But I'm disappointed that the screen failed after such a short time, even though I'm very careful with it. #OnePlus #ScreenFail #Disappointed
I got one at launch, saw screen failures on Reddit and sold it. Got 15 Pro Max. Currently considering selling my Pixel 8 Pro and OnePlus 12 to get another Open. I really miss it.
ergonomically samsung is right for most of the people, it just that many people are not able to digest the narrow form factor......some people complaint with big hand we cannot type...friend please unfold it, you get the widest keyboard possible for a phone biggest advantage with foldable is with reading news/article/mails etc....sadly no youtubers shows that....its always is camera, youtube, gaming
Have you heard or seen the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro? You should compare with the Oneplus Open. Both are neck and neck and great devices. I think either one is a win win!
I want to love this phone but mine got the green screen of doom just 5 months in on the inside and 1+ has been sitting on it for over a month only recently claiming they are out of repair parts. That does not bode well for the longevity. I also love inking and it is just impossible to get the stylus without paying a small fortune for it. So, pretty bummed out on this one.
Easily the best foldable. I tried the z fold 6 the pixel 9 pro fold and the honour V3 fold as well as the OnePlus fold apex with a view to keeping 1. Absolutely the OnePlus. Blew away all the others easily. The worst being Sammy then the pixel then the V3. If the software was better on the V3 it would have been much tougher as it easily has the best outer screen
I second the galaxy 6. Just switched from a fold 4 to the Open with the watch 6 and works great. Even sideloaded the blood pressure app and it works great.
So tell me you had the phone for 8 months. 1 how many times have you dropped the phone? 2. Did you think getting the 2-year over $329+ warranty worth getting ? I have a Hauwei Mate 20x with a 7.2 in screen with a good case no warranty ever. I have dropped it numerous times screen has no cracks. (Knock on wood)
Same here, I have a case with a protection on the hinge mounted on spring. Dropped on concrete several times in the last 10month, it looks like day one...
Yesterday I downloaded the software update on my oneplus open and now it keeps freezing over any app I open to open 1 app it takes about 3-4 minutes and even the back and home button makes the phone freeze . I can only access the notification drawer and then settings fromm there any recommendation would be appreciated. I have tried restarting the phone but it does not work
Wireless charging is too slow, not sure why people wireless charge tbh. Sometimes even wireless charging makes the phone hot. Why wireless charge when you can super fast charge the phone in 42 min instead of 2 hrs+ 🤷♂

Really not a fan of these "8 months later" videos when you don't daily drive the phone. Doesn't flesh out durability issues.
