At the time people were confusing the CBS show GOOD TIMES with ABC's HAPPY DAYS, since both had similar themed titles. I think that's where Gene's confusion came from.
'Town crier' was a weird miss by Richard: too historical, and too unAmerican. No young thing in California in the 1970s would think of 'town crier' -- I'm not only English by birth and upbringing, but I'm also a member of the Royal Historical Society, and *I* didn't even think of that. My answer was 'town hall'.
My answers for today's questions: 1. They threw Coconuts (Matched everyone but Kaye) 2. Snoopy's Ear (Matched neither Anson nor Richard) 3. (Super Match) King Richard (Matched Charles) 4. (Head to Head Match) Town Hall (No Match) 5. Jumping from the side of his boat (Matched no one) 6. Music comes out of her Mouth (Matched Fannie, Kaye and the contestant) 7. Hid his Hearing Aid (Matched No One)
She was a good player. I also appreciated how she chose different stars for suggestions and particularly for the head-to-head match rather than the same person over and over.
At 15:13 Gene says that Richard has his own show. It's the second time I heard him say it. I guess Richard was offered the Family Feud in 74 but it didn't come on til 76?
Anson Williams is interesting, usually they are the stars from a generation or two back, he is the youngest I can remember being on the show. Curious if the show was trying to get younger stars, or Anson was just a fan of the show. Happy Times?
Richard Thomas was born June 13, 1951, so he was ~23 when he appeared earlier. I think he was the youngest star to appear on MG to this point. Anson Williams was born September 25, 1949.
growing up in the 60s and 70s I only had 1 good looking teacher like Emily. It was in the 3rd grade and I was in love with her. Sadly her husband taught 4th grade.
Most of my elementary school teachers looked like ancient Miss Grundy from the Archie Comics. They suddenly became much younger when I began middle school.
Wasn't rare at all. Jack Klugman of "The Odd Couple" (ABC) and "Quincy M.E." (NBC); David Doyle of "Charlie's Angels" (ABC); Kate Jackson from "The Rookies" and "Charlie's Angels" (both ABC); Robert Mandan of "Soap" (ABC). Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure there were others.
@@sd31263 Some celebrities who I wish were on MATCH GAME but never were: Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Montgomery, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd, Julie Newmar, Bea Arthur, etc.
Too many options for “TOWN blank”….Hall, Square, Meeting, and Country, Crier, House, etc. Carol blew her chance the previous $5,000 round, to match Joanie Summers with “World Champion”. She said “Grand Champion”. Still, she is a beautiful , enthusiastic contestant : one of the best!
Absolute WORST panelist ever. So insincere, always pretending to have a good time with that annoying fake cackle. And hanging over Richard like a cheap suit.
I REPEAT: Not Kay Stevens AGAIN!!! Jesus, couldn't they find anyone tolerable, like O.J. Simpson or Timothy McVeigh? (I was going to suggest Gilbert Gottfried, but I'd actually have a week of Kay. [Geez--that's like having to choose between getting the electric chair or hanging.])
@David Fritz Actually, it might have been kinda cool to have Gibert Gottfried on the show, but obviously that never happened. I'd rather have him on than some of these other dregs, Ethel Merman comes to mind. Mary Ann Mobley is another, nice to look at, but almost never a match.
HALLELUJAH, a McLean free series, I REALLY cherish these episodes. If you think about it, if snoopy were typing he'd be using his 🐾 so the tail wouldn't be in the picture so to speak
'Little Richard' -- well done, girl!
Surprised no one said EAR to the Snoopy question. In the Thanksgiving special, his ear ends up in the toaster...
quadrazu I thought the same thing!
I thought ear, too.
I loved Anson in "Happy Times" as Gene said lol
Nobody noticed
@@patwillis4509 I did!
At the time people were confusing the CBS show GOOD TIMES with ABC's HAPPY DAYS, since both had similar themed titles. I think that's where Gene's confusion came from.
Thanks for the tip, I can't BELIEVE I didn't catch that
Yep, I was hoping Anson would correct Gene. I turned to the comments to see if anyone else noticed it, which I was sure someone else did.
My God, Anson Williams looks so young in these episodes. Just think, Happy Days was in about its second season at the time.
He was 24 years old here.
1st. season was '74 I believe.
I think he was 25... SOOOOO CUTE!.. (So dumb, lol)!
He was young
Just to let you know, He's MY God too
When Brett called Charles Tinkerbell...Hilarious!
Anson such a cutie..
Anson Williams came back for a week in 1977, but by that time, he had 70's hair, as opposed to the 50's hair he had here.
Gene said Anson was a star in Happy Times lol
Finally looked it up; Anson Williams was 24 when this was taped.
I met the man who drew/invented Betty Boop. We own a few of his cartoon sketches for the Disney films of the middle (last) century.

I thought of Town Home. That wouldn't have matched her choice of Town House because it is not an exact match.
I thought of TOWN HALL also.
@@rtususian There ya go!
I was thinking of Otis on Andy Griffith show. " Town drunk ". 😊
Nice sweater, Fannie.

I hope that guy had a good experience farming in Texas.
Me too! Was reading through the comments in hopes to find something! Lollll
Anson is gorgeous!
I like when contestants go on their own in the Super Match and win
Carole deserved all that money
She was a good player. I also appreciated how she chose different stars for suggestions and particularly for the head-to-head match rather than the same person over and over.

I was wondering that too, 1974 is too early for FAMILY FEUD.
I used to listen to Mystery Theater on my radio as a kid. 😝
The celeb answers here were pretty decent...tough crowd!
0:55-"Happy Times"....known by most people as "Happy Days"
For "Open the Door, Richard"....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_the_Door,_Richard
I notice the same thing Happy Times LOL
I'm guessing that he didn't watch the show.
😂😂😂
Lmao

20:20 “That’s enough” 😂
Panelists:
1. Anson Williams
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Fannie Flagg
5. Richard Dawson
6. Kaye Stevens
Good for Fannie: I said 'mouth' as well : ) Blimey, and so did Kaye.
When I was in first AND second grade my teachers were well past retirement age. For Judy jukebox the EARS have it
Kay Stevens must be sober this episode, she isnt cackling like a nut til the end of the show lol
I noticed that too.
I rolled my eyes when Gene asked her to imitate Betty Boop. Ugh.
And yet she was still annoying on here
This was one of the rare times they had an actor from a non-CBS show on _Match Game_. _Happy Days_ was always on ABC.

ah, Fanny my love is back... When Kaye Stephens was on the first time I really liked her laughter, now not so much
You can definitely have too much of a good thing.

Can't believe they had Kaye Stevens back on

This contestant is amazing.
Anson Williams was such a cute sweetheart. Why did Gene bully him?
Joanie *SOMERS*? Ay wait a minute.....🤑🤑🤑
I really like Carol, so enthusiastic ... even more than Karlotta
Patsy was so cute!
Has Fannie and Betty ever been on this show together
I think they were once but I don't remember off hand though

David Fritz she is not as bad this time.
She was on Tattletales with her escort. She got comments then too. What did she actually do acting wise?
@David Fritz Actually, it might have been kinda cool to have Gibert Gottfried on the show, but obviously that never happened. I'd rather have him on than some of these other dregs, Ethel Merman comes to mind. Mary Ann Mobley is another, nice to look at, but almost never a match.
Is this the last week with Stevens or is there one more after this? I'm slowly losing my mind hearing that hyena cackle.
beatlequeen06 2 more sadly :(
Richard Long week 291-295 and Episodes 321-323
Ah, dangit. Well, I'll hunker down and survive somehow.
I find Kaye delightful - it's Brett that drives me up a wall
Kay's nuts. Liked her at first, but between the answers not even trying to help the contestant and that laugh of a hyena, I'm ready to scream!

Oh god, Kaye "Annoying" Stevens is back on for no reason, she added nothing to the show at all
I’m tired of watching smoke come out of CNR’s face. I would never want to sit next to him.
Yes, but he's funny and a darling!
I love pipe smoke. Puff away. Gimme cancer.

Any time Kaye Stevens is on 🙄🙄🙄
Great. The laughing hyena is back again.
Oh no, Kaye is back?! I might need to skip this week.
As annoying as Kaye Stevens was, she did do a great Betty Boop.
Bryan Chase wish she did a great Marcel Marceau....
