Royal Ivory was the very first hotel I stayed in on my first visit to Thailand , Christmas 1999. I've stayed there many times since. So sad to see it closed and looking bare. Shame about the Royal Ivory. I've been there 2 or 3 times. I've had the odd early evening meal at the Swan Inn. It's not a bad location. There a are few laid back bars in the alley round the corner, more for chatting and playing a bit of pool, and the alley is the shortcut to Nana station, and the cut through to Soi 8.
I guess the room is okay if it’s clean and your satisfied. A damn good price. But I think the shabbiness would depress me. I’m glad you enjoyed the Thai food. When I am in Thailand I tend to stay with the soups and noodles. But it looks like you got a good valued meal.
Stayed at the Swan Inn 2 just before the lock down. Very reasonably priced when the Thai baht was strong. What I liked about it was its central location, quiet outside and has a nice restaurant at the entrance. Due to the quality of the rooms staying here for 2-3 nights max is the right thing to do.
