Well, as you say, a great system for the right situation. Product photography that would be used in advertising, a good example and similar situations. So if you earn your living taking such images, and there are quite a lot of scenarios that would fit this camera, then great....But, as you also point out, it's overkill for 'normal'/everyday photographers that don't shoot those situations, or need the ability to crop, or enlarge, to such a degree. I think it's a bit more of a niche camera, that's great for a professional who earns his living taking images that require such a beast.
On a side-note, I have recently been using one of your recipes, the 'Goughie's Versatile Color' one, now we've been getting a bit of sun, and have got some really nice shots with it. Very impressed with it and it's really versatile.

Nice man. GFX isn't for everyone, right? I hope more people watch this... Fuji says most of the buyers of GFX are amateurs, and I think a lot of people think more megapixels and medium format equals better photos... when in fact the tradeoffs of MF and higher megapixels should be considered carefully. 90% of the people out there only output on the internet, so even Micro 4/3 is enough resolution! Great stuff, my man!

The 32-64 works great with the built in xpan crop on the GFX system . also the mitakon 65mm lens is great for portraits because it’s a character lens not overly sharp and a super low f stop 1.1 for a true medium format look, The GFX system won’t be a super popular system until Fuji opens up to third party lens manufacturers . When this happens we will get cine lenses , cheaper auto focus and a much better overall selection of lenses . Sigma has already said they want to make GFX lenses but Fuji refuses to open up the GFX line to third party. By the time the GFX opens up its lineup I think it will be a very popular cinema camera because of the unique cinematic look the camera is capable of achieving

I believe the gf mount is open to other lens manufacturers but the uptake hasn't been there due to the huge optical performance standards they need to meet. I believe laowa make one. So do mitakon

Older used GFX cameras like the 50r make way more sense, due to the niche shooting scenarios you can use these cameras for (product, portrait and landscape) you only really need 1/2 lenses, and since ahooting will be slowed down anyways, may as well adapt some manual focus lenses to save some size over the enormous gfx ones

As an owner of a 50S II, I can highly recommend them IF you are okay with not shooting action or wildlife. Not impossible to do so, but its a very slow camera, slow focus, slow FPS. But if you mostly take photos of things that stand still, its really good! and 51mp is still a lot. And you can adapt old medium format lenses to it too. I actually got an old Pentax 645 macro lens today and am looking at my first photos from it right now. It was so fun to shoot with and the IQ is very good!

Been using this for the past 6 months. Love it, but it did take me a while to get past the feeling that I had to really make use of the 100mp instead of just appreciating the increased detail.

Very interesting to hear your experience with Fujis medium format. For me it's just the size of the setup, which would keep away as a casual shooter. I just like small camera setups :)
And of course the 100MP would be also be overkill :D

I want the GFX 50R, but I am honest with myself and yeah, it is overkill and not something I need. Now that I own the X100VI I debated selling my X Pro3 and lenses to buy the 50R and a lens, but meh.

Nice video Goughie. I have always been surprised at the two completely different viewpoints when it comes to camera equipment size. And naturally I am really happy that there ARE such differences, as it would be a rather dull world if we all liked, thought and did the same thing. My preference is for larger, heavier kit. I like the heft of a heavy camera and feel it gives me far more stability. This is why wherever possible I have added motor drives, battery grips or basic grips on my extensive number of film and digital cameras. Other people prefer cameras that are very light and can be easily, or comparatively easily, slipped into a pocket. For example the new Fuji X100VI. Actually, I don't have any objections to lighter gear and have ordered an X100VI myself, it is just that I prefer big. OK, maybe it is that old male inadequacy thing as I also like, and drive big cars, vans and motorcycles too, so who can say. One final note though, I won't be buying the GFX100II as the one BIG thing I don't like so much, is the price. 😂 Looking forward to your next video.

100MP GFX 100 mark 2 is great, but it's like DSLR bulky and heavy than leica M series and other mirrorless camera out there, unless you want that camera body and feeling and the image quality of the sensor, other than the, full frame is already enough for paid works, everyday use, vocation, etc. Especially leica M11 60mp is already massive. Nice opinion and review 😁

Great video but wondering why anyone would need a medium format digital camera for certain genre feels a bit off considering some giants of street photography who predominantly used medium format film cameras. Are medium format cameras overkill in terms of cost, weight, and maneuverability? Sure is, but I wonder how random street photography will best serve historians of the future who would be best served by such a camera.

Having sort of transition to medium format myself, but still staying in the x system. I know what you mean about pixel peeping and I only have the 50 S2 but it's phenomenal and it is a very niche camera. It is not a camera I use for my portraits or my weddings or any other stuff that I do it is purely landscape camera Because a medium format camera will outperform an X camera for landscape photography now that's might seem a bit unfair for X users but that's okay. I'm just saying it as it is. The detail is phenomenal but where it shines is 3D pop. Some of my landscapes that I have taken people standing in front of the big prints that I do, and they say I feel like I'm on the beach. It has a 3-D draw in factor that other cameras don't have. But it's expensive it's heavy, but it has its benefits what you'll find is and I've sent this to a few people who've asked me about my camera is it's the lenses that are rendering the images in these cameras. It is really a landscape camera I've said that all along if you are a very dedicated landscape photographer like I am this is the camera to Own but if you don't shoot landscapes I wouldn't buy it. I wouldn't buy it for portraits there's plenty of other cameras, you can do just as good as you have mentioned yeah and I did do one portrait shoot with my GFX and it actually went quite well, but it was clunky to use and it was a little bit difficult but I still managed to get the images that I wanted.. thanks for your video

That size of 6x4,5 cm film is actually not accurate, course you have to count in 2mm blanc border from all sides, so it's more like 56x40mm or there about, depending on a particular camera...

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie 2 месяца назад +1

      The point still stands though…
      Using 56mm x 40mm = 2240
      GFX 43.9mm x 32.9mm = 1440
I’d be annoyed if I bought a pizza only 64% of it arrived 😂
