There are numerous riffs on the last word - these are two rye whiskey variants. If you're a fan of the last word, definitely give these two a try! What's your favorite last word riff? 🧐😊

Love it! Have you tried the Monte Cassino, but swapping out the rye for cognac? It's luxuriously delicious and then becomes an all-French cocktail, so I guess it could be called Le Dernier Mot? Does that already exist?

      3/4 oz Mezcal
      3/4 oz Maraschino
      3/8 oz Green Chartreuse
      3/8 oz Ancho Reyes
      3/4 oz lime juice
I also love a Monte Cassini with a couple dashes of Angostura

Most importantly, I just love your personality, kind of fun and silly, but you also know your stuff, well explained even for people new to cocktails, and I enjoy hearing the history of the drinks. Like a good drink, you have a _balance_ of entertainment and education.

I can't remember who, but someone I recently saw, making a cocktail, in a Nick and Nora glass - perhaps it was Nick Strangeway - former bartender/owner in the U.K and now he is a partfounded/owner of Hepple Spirits - fabulous Gin! - said, to him, the style of glass is so beautiful, it doesn't need a garnish. Dear Anders, I tried out these two recipes and I like them more than The Last Word. I found out that is important to use a higher quality Rye Whiskey and I especially like the Monte Cassino, although I still thought it could use something extra. A lemon peel garnish or rub would do it, but then that Celery Bitters bottle which I never use came to my mind... It was really the extra I was looking for!

Just had them both. First, the glug-glug-glug sound of the yellow chartreuse being poured was... surprisingly amusing. Didn't get it with the green. Why?!?! Now, for me the Final Ward was much better because I find YC and Benny too similar. They ganged up to overpower the citrus. But the maraschino in the Final Ward was contrasting enough to give a more complex drink... for me. Now for a Last Word... Cheers!

What are you subbing for Yellow Chartreuse in your Monte Cassino these days

  • @lordsauron3979

One thing I have come to notice in your videos is that when you are about to talk, the volume to the background music gets lower so it doesn't drown you out when you're speaking. Thank you for that. There is another guy on RUclips that I can't stand to watch anymore because his fancy music is way too loud in all his videos.

I wish Chartreuse said on the bottle, yellow and green. When I have them side by side I can tell them apart, when I have one bottle I'm like is that yellow or green because the yellow looks greenish to me.

There really is no proper substitute, eh? Hope our liqour stores carry yellow someday! Until then, I'll enjoy that Final Ward. Thanks!

😂 Try the Monte Cassino with the green chartreuse! You'll still get an idea of what it's like, and it'll still be good!

Definitely worth a try! I decided to shake these two just to tone down the sharp lemon notes in the cocktails - but it could be fun to compare the shaken and stirred versions of each. Thanks for the comment, Jonathan!
