My husband and I got the bright idea to build my parents house and our house. Today we started cabinets in my parents house and it’s so much harder than we thought. Everything is harder 😅. You guys are doing great! For the fridge space: We went for extra space in our kitchen designs. Family gatherings get so busy and that space in the kitchen will be so nice!
Oh my goodness, are you building two houses at once?! I can’t even imagine 🤯 hahah the cabinets were so much hard thank anticipated. The hardest one for us was the stone, that one kicked our butts!! Glad we made the decision to go with the extra space 😆
@@FarisandLisa We aren’t building them both at the same time but we attempted to. We haven’t done our exterior yet because of a bunch of other changes and my parents changing their mind, but we’ve landed on stone with variegated steel siding . I watched your stone installation video at least twice. We’ll figure it out. 😁
Looks great, normally I’ll leave 42-48” around a island. That’s normally enough for two people to pass. Might have been easier to install a full upper cabinet above the the fridge. I see guys screw up pipe alignment holes all the time. To give a better look, just cut a square out or just order a new back panel. In Jerry’s defense, it was a 1x3 not a 2x4 😂😂 👍🍺
Yes glad to hear you like to leave some space with the island! Happy we made the same choice. Yes agreed that cabinet was a pain!! We ordered three new panels 😆 hahah Jerry loved your comment, that tile definitely needed some more thinset
So funny we had your video casting to the TV while we were doing some stuff in the family room. When you got the section about the location of the island, my wife started yelling at the TV "move it back, don't crowd yourself, you'll regret it later if you don't" hahaha, I think I've created a Faris and Lisa junkie out of my wife hahaha
Hahah hey that’s the stuff we need to hear!! Sometimes we wish we were live to get help with some of these decisions but glad we landed on the same answer 😆 we are thankful for your wife 😁
Love the channel and following along while the entire process is completed. Since the uploads have slowed down a bit we've gone back to the beginning and are binging through. One item that made me curious about the process and how you are handling it is the original overall budget versus the current spend/forecasted finished costs and how rates have increased since the start of your project? Would love to hear more from you regarding this part of the building process as well? Did you have to refinance the construction loan due to the time duration or do anything different with insurance? How have the rates affected you? Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work! You two are exceptionaly upbeat people who really deserve some recognition for the effort that you put into everything (thinking back to Farris redoing a cracked tile when installing the vanity). Many Kudos!
Hi, thanks for the questions and the support! We are going to be addressing a lot of these questions in an upcoming budget video and will make sure to add these questions in there. We went with a private loan so we have been able to adjust accordingly, but majority of people may not have that option. With a construction loan, it is possible to go back to your lender and try to get an adjustment. In a lot of cases it is common that the lender will not change and then the buyer will have to pay the builder in cash or find another arrangement of financing. If additional financing is not an option then the project will stay unfinished or left to the homeowner to finish later. Ex: flooring, paint... It's best practice to stay informed on completion % and budget throughout the project and inform your lender as soon as possible to have the best chance at reviewing and changing the terms. * We are not financial advisors and this is not financial advice.
I stumbled upon your videos a few days ago. My wife and I are considering building in about a year or two. I was curious are you financing or paying cash. I would like build but my wife doesn’t want to wait that long. 😂
Yes do it!! If you’re not doing the work yourself it will go by twice as fast as ours 😅 we are financing, it’s worth the wait if you’re looking to stay put for awhile. Resale is typically decent too.
