    Any native English speaker in America can tell who's the American as all the other young ladies have foreign accents, but children are often influenced by what they see in entertainment and the media. Despite that, the second girl is very good. Although she initially focused on the blonde hair/blue eye stereotype she used her listening skills to discern the differences in speech and could tell what native English sounds like in comparison to non-native English. Very smart, observant girl.

    You want to listen for the accent. (Which is harder if English is a second language.) Although America is a very diverse country, the biggest anatomical difference I’ve noticed between East Asians and Asian-Americans is that the backs of the heads of people who grew up in America tend to be rounder. American babies sleep on soft bedding. Other things to look for: how much distance we keep from other people, hand gestures, the kind of shoes we wear, whether we’re used to not having air conditioning.

    stereotypes of americans;
    1. all people are white
    2. all people have light hair and eyes
    it's sad tho how the world perceived the americans.. they never know that america is a melting pot country.. many asian american, latin american, african american within the country itself.. if you go to the city like new york or san francisco you'll meet a lot of chinese american and they look exactly like people from east asia but they only able to speak one language.. yeah it's english.. cause many parents of asian americans never pass or teach their native language to their children.. and that's why if korean person meet a korean american person they'd feel weird.. cause they both the same korean.. but they speak entirely different language.. many korean americans can't speak korean right now.. even in canada the diversity percentage is higher.. the percentage of asian canadians is higher than that in the us(but the number of asian americans still prevail tho cause the population is so high despite the percentage is lower).. you'll meet a lot of chinese canadians in vancouver.. they're all speaking english.. many chinese canadians cannot speak chinese anymore.. and in the toronto area you'll meet a lot of korean canadians.. and the same case is that many korean canadians also cannot speak korean anymore.. so yeah..

    Oh it would have been nice to have two americans, one that is like Shannon in the stereotype and someone who isn't in the stereotype. For example, two members of LE SSERAFIM are Asian-American, they have mostly looks based on their Asian parents, similarly I'm French because my dad moved to France but his sister moved to the USA so my cousins are American and are fully black (I'm mixed with Arab) it could have taught those clever little girls a little without waiting for Shannon to tell them later whenever you film another video with them as I'm sure Shannon knows about the diversity of America, even without diving into the nitty gritty of the history.

      Yeah, I was kind of pulling for an American with maybe some Hispanic or native-American ancestry, or a Black American. But when Shannon came out and said "Hi, I'm Shannon", I was like, nope, they went for the stereotype. I honestly can't think of a more white-American name than "Shannon." There are more American names, e.g., Shaniqua. But they don't go with the blue-eyed-blonde stereotype. Shannon does, and unlike some of the other extremely-common names, I don't think it's widely used in Europe. I suppose there are also the Millennial names, like "Brayden".

      Interesting “to see ourselves as others see us.” Might’ve wanted to give Ana a chance to get it right, before teaching her more about how diverse America really is. But Hollywood shows a lot of Americans of different races, and I was surprised she hadn’t seen them (or thought those characters were from other countries).
      I don’t get the impression that any of them were trying to fool her, just to see if she could tell whether they were American, from a casual interaction. English is not her native language, and she doesn’t know yet how to recognize English accents, which is how we would tell. From the subtitles, I’m not sure whether or not she was told to guess first based on appearance. EunBeen does get it right based on the American being the most fluent in English.

    This is a very good example of how stereotypes are ingrained from young. When the word "American" is mentioned, many people around the world tend to think of a white person instinctively. I myself am somewhat guilty of this. But perhaps this isn't surprising as whites make up the majority in the US and are thus the most well represented group in things like Hollywood movies which global audiences watch. However, while such stereotypes might be innocent and not unnatural, we need to constantly seek to overcome them (as this video illustrates). As a multiracial society and a land of immigrants, Americans can come in all ethnicities and colours.

      As an American who's neither blond and blue eyes, nor white, it does get frustrating cause people look at you in disbelief sometimes when I tell them I'm American. If these people visit the major cities in the US and see how immensely diverse the US is. There are even certain cities and towns where white people are not the majority. Just sad but I understand since Hollywood has made such a lasting cultural impression on what a typical "American" looks like, which is Caucasian. But we do exist too you know, African Americans, Latin Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans :/

    • @anndeecosita3586
      @anndeecosita3586 11 месяцев назад +6

      White people are the majority but it’s not by the margin that a lot of outsiders think. Also in the USA you don’t have to be European to be legally considered white so the percentages also reflect people of North African and Middle Eastern ancestry. to add to your point, the USA expanded over time and never been entirely European. There were indigenous people and there were enslaved Africans who were brought in soon after colonization began by the British, Dutch, French, and Spanish. The indigenous people and the Africans are not considered as immigrants.
