    If light takes only the shortest path between A and B, then why does it reflect? It can just move from A to B directly in this diagram, That is the shortest path right?

      Yes, a direct path would be fastest, and it would also happen for a point source sending light in all directions. But in that case there is no reflection! I should have said "the fastest path that involves a reflection".
