I love reading books about music! Trouble Boys, the story of the Replacements is one of the best I have ever read.

Loved the Springsteen book, and his Broadway special on Netflix. I liked the insight to his inner life. It informed his songwriting so much.

Great suggestions! While he isn't likely your particular taste in music (or maybe he is, but I have yet to hear you reference him) James Taylor's book which came out last year is FANTASTIC. It focuses on the period of his life pre-fame up until he got famous through the early 1970's. Great!

during "The Great Recession" I spent a year on unemployment and read every rock n roll book in my local library. The top 4 were unquestionably: 1) "Backstage Passes & Backstabbing Bastards: Memoirs of a Rock 'N' Roll Survivor" by Al Kooper. Make sure you get the latest version as it has been updated several times. 2) "Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock" by Sammy Hagar 3) "Me, the Mob, and the Music: One Helluva Ride with Tommy James & The Shondells" 4) "Still Takin Care of Business: The Randy Bachman Story." These aren't my favorite artists, they were just the best books.

This was great! Thank you so much, Mike. I am going to get the book by Chris for sure, but you have also inspired me to probably get the Elton and maybe even the Phil as well. (I'd love to see if Phil wrote about working with John Cale in the mid-70s, love his albums on Island.) I keep hoping they put Squeeze Play back into print (saw it there on your shelves!) as that is one of the few UK "song by song" books I really wish I would have bought when I had the chance. I share your joy for the Dolby book, Mike, but also if you ever see one of the many low priced overstock vinyl copies of his second album, The Flat Earth at Half Priced Books, perhaps give it a chance. He really flexed well on that second LP and it doesn't sound like he was trying to follow up his more overt synth-pop singles or debut, but doing something more like a Joni Mitchell concept album from the 70s. You might be surprised. Anyways, thanks again for more of my very favorite content on You Tube! You're the best.

Wonderland Avenue by Danny Sugarman was realy good. Its mostly about him and the Doors when he was a kid and also a bit about Iggy pop. Its more about the people than analysis of album tracks but its one of my favourites. An honourable mention would be Slash. His book was much better than I was expecting
