  • Keystone Crew Heads to the Susquehanna River in Wyalusing (NEPA) with special guest Mateo - 7/6/24
Keystone Crew does some summertime smallmouth fishing in the Susquehanna River in Wyalusing, PA. Stephen also catches a monster Walleye in the first 10 minutes of being on the water! In this episode Stephen and JT take their longtime friend Mateo out for his first time on the river. This is a special episode because although we grew up with Mateo, we only got to see him every summer or every other summer at our parents and grandparents’ lake houses. We all taught Mateo how to fish, but with him living near Washington DC, it’s difficult to find people to fish with. Despite all that, he stuck with it and loves the sport of angling. Mateo was excited to catch some smallmouth because they aren’t really in the waterways around DC and was hopeful to land a “Suskie Muskie”. Unfortunately, the fish of 10,000 casts didn’t bite, but maybe they will in the fall.
All SMALLmouth in this video are typical size for the Susquehanna during the summer time. From fall through spring is when the smallmouth actually have decent size in the north branch of the river. The Susquehanna River is the longest river on the east coast of the Unites States. It flows 444 miles from Cooperstown, NY, through Pennsylvania, and into the Chesapeake Bay at Havre-de-grace, MD. You can add 228 miles to this river if you include the rivers west branch. The Susquehanna River is almost one mile wide at Pennsylvania’s capital city of Harrisburg. It is the longest, commercially non-navigable river in North America, making it a great environment for recreation. The Susquehanna is the single largest/longest “fly-way” for migratory birds on the east coast and the rivers west branch flows through the home of the largest elk herd in the northeastern US. The Susquehanna River is considered the oldest major river system in the world, predating the formation of the Appalachian Mountains over 300 million years ago, and older than the Nile River in Egypt.
