That's one of the things people didn't realize about Prince he had a great sense of humor.
Prince pranked (former guitarist) Dez Dickerson back in the day by taking his telephone number and making a song out of it for funk band The Time. Dez had to change his number because fans were dialing 777-9311 at all hours of the day hoping to talk to the band lol.

Well I kinda gotta Prince story, if this counts as one? Well to start off.....let me just say....I am head over heels when it comes to Prince! I absolutely love and adore him, ain't no two ways about it! It would take a book to explain all the feelings I have for him and why I have total admiration for him. So anyway, I'm ""CRAZY"" in love with him, right, and I look everyday hoping perhaps their might be another New Song of his posted here on YT that I haven't heard yet.(in which by the way, Thank You to all of you that upload Princes videos and songs, concerts, etc, I soooo appreciate it)💋so, I listen to his music everyday and just chill and daydream! Need I say again, I'm in love with him. lol😍 so this one night I had been watching some of his vids and I had fell asleep with his songs on repeat and slept like a baby till the next morning. As I was waking, before I even opened my eyes, I was going over a dream I had had during the night. And OMG.....I had dreamt of Prince! Yes, yes I did!!! He was wearing that purple and pink outfit with some sort of mixed flowers or paisleys on it. It was kind of like the one he wore in the "When Doves Cry" video where his body is doubled and he had that black hat on. I think the outfit he had on in that video was gold in color. So, in my dream, myself and a few friends had been standing outside of some venue amongst a bunch of other people when out of nowhere Prince came from ""around the corner"" just looking just as FINE as he could be. He was walking really fast as he got closer to where me and my friends were standing and then he cut between us in the crowd and hurried up some steps to get inside the building. For some reason we were not aloud inside the venue yet, oh and as Prince was hurrying upstairs I could see he was carrying those black leather gloves he always had in his vids.sun glasses on top of his head too. And for some reason I got the nerve to yell out his name and asked if we could get in the building if we came in with him, about that "time" he quickly turned around to see who was asking, but he looked directly at me and with a head nod and a quick wink he said ""FOLLOW ME"" and turned back fast to continue up the steps in a hurry. That's it 😍 I jumped up on the steps to follow him and my heart was jumping up outta my chest and that's the last of the dream that I can remember! Yep that's my Prince story. It was a dream, but it also felt more real than anything! And it was the words ""FOLLOW ME"" he said, that stick in my head. And I just knew I remembered hearing those words somewhere else in my life, and it was driving me crazy cause I just knew that I was familiar with those two words somehow, I just couldn't put my finger on it.....lo and behold....it just came to me the other day, it just dawned on me to grab my Bible out. I knew that I knew that I knew those two words he spoke to me, that I had heard them before, YES....JESUS SAID THEM......Matt 4:19 How totally Awesome is that? Huh? Now this story does not fall in the category of being just a Quinkydink, right? What a way to get a message across! Thank You Prince💜 And most of all, THANK YOU JESUS💞

Seriously? You're aware they were already the legendary Roots crew BEFORE The Tonight Show, right? With their own already-successful career before Fallon came calling. And, exactly what is their "gimmick"?
The gimmick is the afro with the pick in it. A good group would never be a TV show band. How many tours have you heard Paul Schaffer taking after Letterman? None. Gimmick band.

Schaffer was never an in-a-band type. He's always been a bandleader, not a touring musician. And, the Roots didn't stop recording and touring when they took the Fallon gig. These guys are so busy with individual outside projects, it's a wonder they even find time to do all that AND function as a band, TV programme or not. The fact that you think the Roots - possibly the hardest-working band today - are a gimmick band because they actually WORK for a living and the drummer/producer/bandleader, who's also an author, happens to wear a pick in his afro shows you really haven't got a fucking clue. That, or, maybe you just prefer when the artists you follow take years off between projects.
Oh my god are you really that ignorant and arrogant? The Roots are one of the most respected bands in the whole world, playing with various artists, from pop to rock to funk to punk to hiphop to jazz. Just fucking shut the hell up
