That was actually a child. I thought it was a Little person. Or some of them one of those syndromes where they look younger than their age. Or stop growing.
@Jaya4life8565 it maybe due to the makeup, probably to “mature” her because she’s a bride I’ve seen a lot of child brides that are often times caked in makeup because they want them to look mature which is disturbing
Not to mention the great sound design and the music dropping to be more eerie and disturbing it really makes your heart and stomach sync and sets the tone for the scene
@LydiBugB-zk2lsI don’t really think this is much of an an excuse, many people leave their situations with absolutely nothing. She could’ve done more to protect her daughter
I find it so interesting that her name is "Lily". She is, quite literally, the flower girl. It's what she was meant to be that day, and she is occupying a spot different from hers.
@shayshay9764 I think they mean it in and a more symbolic way. Lily itself is a flower and you can see that the girl is a young child and her name is Lily. Hence her role in the wedding should be a flower girl, but the devastating reality is that she is the bride.
My best friend in high school was forced by her father to marry at the age of 15 after he arranged it with the guys father. He never let her date anyone but this guy. He was truly the most unattractive, greasy, smelly guy with rotted teeth, bad breath, a poor attitude, and coke bottle glasses, and treated her like a servant. He never would have married anyone if his father hadn’t bought her. After 10 years with him she left him, and for the first time in her life married the love of her life.
I’m from Cambodia and a bunch of my friends were drag from school and married off to 30 to 40+ years old men. Most of em are very beautiful from a very young age and have handsome long term bfs. They were forced to break up with their bf as well. They all very ashamed and never keep in contact with any of us after the marriage and never go back to school either. I know some of em are divorced now. Sad world we live in.
To them it is. There are Republican senators etc actively working to make it legal mostly in the south. They are even trying to make age of consent 14 or under....
@nicolasdiez7688 It really wasn’t, most people got married at what we’d now consider legal adulthood. It was the nobles who did child marriage to secure alliances, or just cause they were powerful freaks who could get away with it (Henry VII and Catherine Howard).
i think thats actually a thing in some countries iirc. thats the problem i have with the whole if the parent consents its fine. its like gender transitions where they are like its between the parent child and doctors. its just wrong to have parental consent for a lot of these things
@annebaby3126 Thank the lord for that. It'd be ten times worse if they didnt, with all the, yknow, female teachers being predators and allat. And it wasn't men pushing the "map" thing because it was "inclusive"
@annebaby3126and you think the mothers of the child bride aren't also handing her over to the old man too? You thought it was only the father that is handing her over? The mothers also support this. So therefore, women are also supporters of this nonsense.
I'll never understand how any adult could look at a child and think "yup I'm going to marry that child". How sick is that? And that the US still allows it to be legal?! I don't care if it's a cultural, religious, whatever tf they want to call it, these are CHILDREN. They are still growing up, mentally emotionally and physically, and these people think they're ready to be married? Absolutely disgusting.
@g3tf673d and I hate it when they try to justify it by saying years ago it was normal for 12 year olds to marry and have families, etc. we now know that the brain doesn’t fully develop til age 25. So even 18 is quite young. When you know better you do better. It’s sad when children are denied a childhood.
@Amaryllis-4U So the age of consent should be 25 then? See that happen in 200 years time, and the people then will look back at the 2020's and say how disgusting it was that 18 year olds were able to be married and have kids. Just as we say the same about 13-14 year olds today. That is how old Romeo and Juliet were hundreds of years ago.
@janetslater129 I don't think she was traumatized due to the wedding as she said is my husband ok yes uts wrong just saying she wasn't traumatized by this she was traumatized due to the person who was an arson
Let the record reflect that the state of New York no longer allows anyone under 18 to get married. This is why I support a charity organization that fights to end child marriage in the US
@kathrinepearson7528 the 37 states that do allow for minors to get married have clauses stating the minor either must be emancipated, have parental/judicial consent, or pregnant/have given birth. Utah put an education clause in their laws to try and get the Mormon epidemic under control.
@kieleahar1012 While not legal in New York, they could simply get married in another state. Married in any state, means it is recognized in all states.
My theory is that the explosion was a set up because someone didn't like the idea of a little girl getting married i hope the girl will be fine that's so sad😢😢
@xOrionNebula2708 I don't think its ever explained why the parents went along with it. Whatever their reason, still not okay. Plus, I don't think she got out of it.
Lily's fifteen-year-old brother set off a smoke bomb at the wedding. He was trying to save her. I don't think he planned on the massive explosion, though.
I experienced a classmate of mine getting married in 6th grade. She came to school with pretty ring one day and told us she was getting married. We admired the ring bit didnt realize how crazy it was until this man picked her up from school and we never saw her again
Not sure. Her name is Julie and she is from my hometown in Augusta Ga. We went to the same middle school. I don't remember much to research and find her. I'm 36 and she would be the same age
My daughter's "father" is from a country where girls are married at 9-12 years old. He's legally not allowed anywhere near her. She is a teen and not even thinking of even dating. Working towards her education and that's it. I would never allow her to marry as a minor
How can a child legally sign and consent to a wedding? All the adults are evil and should lose custody and go to jail until the child grows up and can live her free adult life.
@susivarga7303unfortunately fundamentalists make sure there is a way to get around most consent laws. In almost every state a child can marry with parental consent or sometimes by consent of a judge . There are men (and I guess women - their mothers) that believe in child brides .
The mom clearly needs help too😜.....Sometimes moms can convince themselves that they do things in their children's best interests and that those actions will bring happiness/protection/financial stability or whatever for their child in the future.....so they are willing to go to extreme lengths to fulfill their twisted fantasies 😜
I suffered this as a kid. My Dad was stalking me on school grounds and I coukdnt cope hiding anymore. So I sat down and checked out for a while. My eyes and nose constantly leaked and I made no effort to fix myself. I was sitting outside boys toilets and next to a bin. My experience was I coukd hear people talking to me. It made me feel no reaction or need to respond to them. I was disconnected from my brain. So I didn't think in words or recognise their meanings. I was relieved to come back. Saying my whole name was the first thing I heard that I recognised. And I came to from there.
Thank you. I had been through much worse and it was a straw. I did get better, had a few great decades. But lately I have been struggling. My traumatic life and forcing myself to be resilient led to a heart attack. And my Dad was the only one there for me. He is a quadriplegic now. Broken neck. He has used it to be an inspiration and rock for us. Even though he has been neglected as a quad and suffered,,, I'm 45. On my birthday my Dad bought me a pokemon set for $250. He worked at a job to get the money. I'm too old to get such an expensive treat. A childish, not going to benefit anyone but the chikd in me, treat. Life is funny. But this above is an overheating of an engine...... Or when systems shut down but start rebooting, waiting for the first command Your name
@amandamccormick5009 i am so sorry. I've been through a life of trauma as well, and things got so bad the past 5 years with being so debilitatingly ill, homeless, family leaving, assaults, near death, and more. I shutdown, in a different way. I could talk, but for the longest time, I was talking backward or id mix up words; my body shut down, ( digestion, mitochondria, cognition, etc. ) Its called, in my situation, dorsal vagal shutdown. Our body and brain is amazing on what it does to 'protect' itself to keep on going in one way or another. Your dad sounds wonderful, and it seems as if he loves you. He must have been through a lot as well. He obviously loves you. Enjoy your Pokémon. There's child in all of us! I'm sending blessings. From one trauma survivor to another. 💜💚🙏
I've been researching my family tree and found out my great-great grandmother married at 10 and had my great grandfather right after her 11th birthday. I couldn't believe it but it is part of the marriage registry in 1879.
My grandmother and father had similar age gap. They couldn’t say the exact number of years because births weren’t registered then. Grandma got married off as soon as she had her period. It was to a boy a few years older so basically they were kids. Who didn’t get along and so separated shortly after. My dad waa brought up by grandma’s parents and always thought his mother was his older sister that he didn’t much like. Anyway, my grandma was always with us when I was growing up.
This is may be a show to you, but there was a video recently that went viral about a child bride crying as the much older man puts a ring on her finger at her wedding. She looked maybe 9 years old. And another girl getting choked because she refused to sign marriage papers. This is happening right now in the world. I really hope somebody would do something to stop this evil. These families don't want to protect their children they want to ruin their lives.
IN LONDON, IN JUST THE LAST 2 WEEKS, ISLAM HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH CONTROL THEY HAD A MASS 30-40 COUPLE WEDDING & ALL BRIDES WERE 8-13 *The New Prime Minister of UK, Starmer, is totally backing Islam against English, including Blasphamy Laws that execute anti-Islam behavior....... literally like having Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan controlling UK from inside UK.*
Sometimes, in times like This You wish you had Super Power to go Country to country search for this so called Human in disguise and Used you're portal ability or Space Pocket Dimensions and sent them away or hacking mastery to take their Money, All of it.
When she said “my husband”, I thought I would cry. There’s a lot more going on here than a frightened “flower girl”. Child marriage is a horror! In the USA? How can we call other countries backwards?
USA has a long story of selling this idea they're the best thing ever existed. Pretending all their problems or doesn't exist, or are someone else's fault
As someone from said "backward" country. I assure you that the US is doing at least a much better job than my own. In the US they at least need parental consent and over here they don't. It's just a game of morality. But child marriages of children between 14-16.
Because this isnt our culture nor do we empower children being married but it's crazy the difference in outrage for child marriage but not child castration and genital mutilation for a mental illness. But I'll stay on topic. Here's the deal. I've never met a single American forced into a marriage nor anyone married before 18. This isn't our normal. But it's funny how y'all criticize the USA as a whole over some TV show while I'm sure y'all advocate for us to take in immigrants from said countries that marry children and/or have arranged marriage. Since y'all think every culture is superior to ours and deserves to be protected, y'all don't ask them to assimilate when they come here. So when this does become normal don't blame Americans. Blame the people who brought this in and defended it because criticizing other cultures or preferring yours stays the majority is unacceptable stance to have here. We must allow this third world cultural enrichment. Or are y'all against Muslim immigrants now? Because Iran approved marriage of 9 year olds. They also have a festival where the grape little boys but we allow them in America by the millions. You want America to be better and have better culture? Stop bringing in the bad. But of course you can't say which is bad because that would be mean, so let's sacrifice America and American lives pretending all these countries are great and should be welcomed. Suicidal empathy will be the death of us.
I saw this episode. It was so messed up. Because they got married in a state where it was legal, the hospital couldn't do anything about it and they had to let the little girl go back with her "husband" and family 😢
@sasbe1852 the law recognizes someone at 18 as an adult. why are YOU so set on trying to push boundaries to get with a minor? are you telling us all something about yourself?
@nikkonikkoshite I mean, look at the comment, though. This person has said they wouldn't get their kid married before eighteen 'even if she was pregnant'. If she's seventeen and pregnant, surely it makes sense for her to marry the father? What is the magical change that happens between her last day of being seventeen and her first day of being eighteen that means she can't get married one day before her birthday? If she's pregnant due to voluntary actions, then she's already doing THE most adult thing... Also, I am a girl and under eighteen (and only interested in guys my age or older), so in case you want to redirect your accusations towards me, you can't. And I can very confidently say I truly believe I could've got married at fifteen and done well (and it's not from my parents convincing me of anything, because they don't want me married even when I'm eighteen).
The scary part is this happened in real life not too long ago. There was a wedding at Disneyland Paris and cast members found out that the girl that they thought was the flowergirl was actually the bride. The police were called immediately.
My parents gave me two choices. Marriage or break up with my boyfriend. They used religion as the ground for the ultimatem. I'd already seen it happen to my first cousin. She went into depression, got really over weight and ended up marrying some guy from the only place she was allowed to go (church) just to escape her house. Neither she or I was 18 at the alter. Today we are both happily divorced.
Once a baby comes into the picture everything changes. If he gave you the ultimatum if you weren't preggo then it's not right, if he gave you the ultimatum while you were preggo then he's correct. Children need a cohesive household to become responsible adults.
@scopscorpion absolutely no. Pregnancy has nothing to do with marriage. Children don't need cohesive household, they need loving and supportive one, where parents don't constantly argue or even something worse (like domestic abuse). Children need to grow up in happy and steady environment, doesn't matter if this environment is created by parents, single parent, grandparents or adoptive parents.
@scopscorpion I disagree, children shouldn't grow up with parents that are only together because of a child and argue all the time. Even being raised by a single parent or divorced parents might be better than living for years with two constantly arguing adults. It's just not right..
@scopscorpion ah yes, nothing like forced marriage with at least one of the parties being underage to form a cohesive household 🤡🤡🤡 and clearly we’ve never heard of children from "cohesive households" beung fcked up by said households 🤡🤡🤡
Im not sure a child thats being coerced by her family to marry would say no... that is why child marriage should be banned, because they dont know that they can say no to their family. The family that they look for safity, they trust to protec them, is selling them out to a random stranger thats like 10 years older than her... Its child abuse.
@waterdragon55The thing is that child have no understanding of what marriage is. She thinks she's gonna be a princess for a day and wear a wedding dress. Some don't even understand that they are not gonna sleep with their mom. And even olderbones like 16-17 years olds doesn't want it, since their parents sing the paper, they can't do anything but marrying.
@waterdragon55ya it’s disgusting they pretty much groomed her into saying yes with different tactics sickening 12 year old has no business getting married
The worst part is that child marriage IS LEGAL in 40 states. And the first state to ban it (Delaware) didnt ban it until 2018!!!! In some states, there's no age minimum.
The US is seriously a third world country in so many ways but they lord it over the rest of us like they’re the leaders of the free world. It’s almost laughable.
Forty states!!!! And people used to admire America! I never did, but then I didn’t find segregation, and no health service, very admirable! But allowing child marriage, a new low!
Back at highschool I had a friend who got married at 15 year old to 30 year old man who was a football player she invited the whole class to her wedding we all thought it was so cool she got married to a rich guy but now that i got older i realised how f up that was
Right now (March 2025) child marriage is legal in Missouri and there is a bill trying to pass the legislature to ban it. It passed the Senate with only one senator opposing. Hopefully it will pass the state house.
Child marriage is legal in 37 states. 4 have no minimum age requirement. Between 2000 and 2018 there were 300,000 legal child marriages in the USA. Some to children as young as 10.
@LizzyDeeAgape It absolutely needs to be passed and fast - I'm not in the US, but one of the things I check before officiating is that both parties are totally legal, and that includes their birthdate here we think of child brides happening in rural Africa, not the USA!
Being in a catatonic or near-catatonic state is very scary. You know you're there but you just CANNOT speak or respond or even think. You feel yourself slowly slipping further unto it and you don't know how to get out. On top of being forced to marry a man (who is likely much older than her), I'm sure she also felt scared from feeling 'stuck' in that state. (I havent watched the episode so I'm assuming the husband is much older)
Yeah, but the doctor was literally doing the worst things possible… I would have been so mad when I came out of it. It makes no sense when people are acting happy around you when you are completely mentally unstable, it makes them an enemy and confuses you.
that little girl`s acting is look so natural i would say, by the end of this video she asked either her husband is ok or not making me low-key feel bad for her ...
@heavencanwaite parents that are so greedy they will happily give their children to pedos. There is no law against children getting married to adults, as long as the parents consent to it. I remember an article about child marriages and I think the youngest bride was only 4 and the groom was 60-70. Parents were desperate/greedy for money and agreed to allow their preschooler to get married and the husband would not permit her to continue school. 20 years later when the husband died, the now adult wife was forced to go looking for work with only a preschool education and 3 kids she was forced to have before she was 16. When the children do want to break free, they are then returned to their spouses. There are cases where the adult is abusive to their child bride/groom and the police are forced to return them to the abusers because they are the child's legal guardian. Many child brides and grooms can be divorced from their spouse when they became "too old" for them. When they are free, they may have no support and depending on their education level, may not be able to get a job. Even harder on them if the girls are forced to get pregnant and can be kicked out with the kids, if the husband chooses. Or a child is forced to become a mother/father to their spouse's children that maybe the same age or just barely younger than them. If they aren't already younger than the spouse's children.
Only 10 states have outlawed child marriage. It is still legal in 40 states. There are other problems regarding helping minor girls escape this tragedy. Again, read the article. Then work within your state to outlaw child marriage.
It's shocking to read in the comments that child marriage is legal in some states in the US. I mean I know people blame Indians for child marriages but atleast those who do that are breaking the law and are arrested. Not being approved by the law
IN LONDON, IN JUST THE LAST 2 WEEKS, ISLAM HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH CONTROL THEY HAD A MASS 30-40 COUPLE WEDDING & ALL BRIDES WERE 8-13 *New Prime Minister of UK, Starmer, is totally backing Islam against English, including Blasphamy Laws that execute anti-Islam behavior.. Literally like having Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan controlling UK from inside UK.*
Very few people know that California has no minimum age as long as there is parental consent I'm very happy the family wasn't given a southern drawl, because most people think of it as a deep south kind of thing
But are they then allowed to consummate the marriage? If one of the couple was an adult, wouldn’t the adult be charged as a PDFile? It’s sad that many children have their childhoods stolen from them 😔💔
This episode was insane! The crazy thing is they went to the Caribbean to get this blood donor with this rare blood type for the husband of the child bride. They didn’t know until afterwards. But yes it is crazy how in the US we still have child brides.
Crazy? Yes. Insane? Yes. Vile? Absolutely. Barbaric? 10,000%. But tragically, this is NOT uncommon -- at least not in the US, & certainly not in other parts of the world. It's utterly disgusting how many parents in this day & age still think it's totally fine & acceptable to treat their own daughters like property & marry them off against their will to much older men, when they haven't even gone through puberty yet. It's sickening that this is still so prevalent. It's 2025. Child brides shouldn't still exist ANYWHERE.
Jerry Lee Lewis was married seven times. One of his most notable marriages was to Myra Gale Brown, who was his first cousin once removed and was 13 years old when they married, while he was 22.
What do you mean with "what about the children!" crowd? Who do you mean? Because many different groups of people are like "what about the children". So I don't know who you're referring to.
@jollyquinn430 republicans. Guess you don't pay attention to the news. A few states in recent years have tried to ban the practice only the have republicans that cry outrage about people being gay is wrong because of the children or banning books because think of the children, only to turn around and think of the children they can marry
Honestly, it breaks my heart how Manifest the Unseen by Luna Rivers isn’t getting the attention it deserves. This book changed me. People need to wake up to this.
"Child marriage is legal in almost every state, despite the fact that nearly every state technically prohibits people younger than 18 from marrying. However, each state has exceptions to these laws. For example, in at least 36 states, minors can marry with judicial consent, and in 34 states, 16- and 17-year-olds can marry with their parents' permission. Three states, Massachusetts, California and New Hampshire, allow 12- and 13-year- old girls respectively and 14-year-old boys to marry with parental and judicial permission."
@jjbryan11 Interesting take. Considering dem states are the only ones to ban child marriage. All 13 states to ban it are democrat run. Meanwhile republican lawmakers keep voting against banning child marriage. Not to mention Texas had the highest number of child marriages in an 18 year period.
@katieh3236 Child marriage is legal in 37 states. 4 have no minimum age requirement. Between 2000 and 2018 there were 300,000 legal child marriages in the USA. Some to children as young as 10.
Could they um… provided female carers to female patients ESPECIALLY when they suspect trauma? You wouldn’t know how many girls and women have been assaulted or cooerced or intimidated to the point of being unknowingly unable to interact with men. They just show a survival respons and detatch from reality. Untill the state of the world changes, this should be policy. Maybe not in this instance but in reality.
Three years ago a social experiment was done in Times square a 62 year old male taking wedding photos with is 12 old bride--all actors--with hidden cameras--the police had to be called everything stopped --because the crowd intervened and were going to tear the "groom" to pieces. Two weeks later they did another social experiment in Times square--this time a 40 year old woman taking wedding photos with her 15 old husband--people --mostly females stopped hugged the happy couple and posed for photos
This comment section probably won’t remember me, but maybe someone scrolling needs this. A few months ago I hit a wall. Nothing made sense. I bought Manifest the Unseen by Luna Rivers after seeing it here on yt. I had no expectations. But chapter by chapter, it broke something open in me. Not motivation - momentum. Wishing that for you too.✨❤
I had a coworker that this happened to. It took him two weeks to snap out of it. Then another week because he acted out while he was in the psychology ward.
its legal to marry at 16 here, but you cant imagine what paper work you have to do for that, they check your parents more than the kids who want to marry!
Marriage of minors was allowed in all 50 stares until 2018. Only 10 states require them to be over 18. The rest are 16-17 except for California, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mississippi. These states have no age restrictions. None. It’s ludicrous
My cousins wife was 14 when they got married. He was 18. Don't remember what state they had to flee to get married in order for him to not get thrown in jail when her parents got the police involved. 40 years later, they are still married.
This is so heartbreaking. USA can ban abortion but can't ban child marriage, the worst of all evils?💔 I wish the episode ended with the hospital calling cops on them.
1) decent chance she didn’t get a say and it was just the dad’s decision 2) also likely is that she was a child bride so doesn’t understand why it’s wrong
They called themselves the Land Of The Free while they still had slaves; it’s always been BS. (By the way, anti-slavery organisations do consider forced marriage to be a form of slavery.)
I've only seen this clip, but I hope the mother isn't repeating "We all need to protect our children" to reassure herself into a belief that is too much distorted, trying to set up boundries to defend for what her community is excusing their exploitation on little girls like Lily and calling it "protection" . I've seen some people do similar things in real life, even pushing victims into being gaslighted, and it still makes me sick😰😰
You watch to the end to find out these marriages are legal in the US. That's so sick and wrong it makes me shudder. As always I feel grateful I don't live in America the country if the crazy not the free. In Australia you have be 18 to marry which we classify as the start of adulthood. Basically here it's impossible to do this.
I know that we here in the States have some really bizarre laws in the books because they were written into law a century or two back when people were super-religious or otherwise ignorant - or the times were just plain different and those laws were the products of those times - and no one ever bothered to repeal those weird laws....like how you can go to jail for eating ice cream in public in Some Old Small Town, Some State on a Sunday...or how you can *_still_* be legally executed by hanging for stealing a man's hat in Montana because that law goes back to our cowboy days when a man used his hat for everything down to collecting water and watering his horse, so stealing his hat was tantamount to killing him yourself. So yeah, a century or three later and we *_still_* have laws that are in desperate need of an overhaul, including the laws allowing child-to-tween marriage. We're _not losing entire generations of kids to massive Cholera outbreaks or Apache attacks_ anymore! We don't need to pass our genes on to the next generation by Age 14 because the Grim Reaper is standing between half of us and Age 15 anymore. So we're not going to go extinct if we follow Australia's lead and block people under Age 18 from getting married, methinks. 🤔
@BloodyBayThere have always been current politicians who are for child marriages. Hence why so many people in power were on Epstein’s list and why it hasn’t officially been released
For a therapist, this guy talks way too much. I understand that he's trying to fill the silence and encourage the girl to talk, but there is incredible power in silence and allowing people space to talk. Edited to add: I'm fascinated at how many people are concerned about me "not knowing" this is acting. 😂 Thank you all for your concern.
I don’t have any experience in this particular area, as a therapist, so I can’t say with that much confidence whether or not that’s the case. That being said, in general I wouldn’t talk that much, in such a short amount of time.
That child actress is brilliant. She did an excellent job of portraying someone in that situation and the "dead" eyes were spot on
That was actually a child. I thought it was a Little person. Or some of them one of those syndromes where they look younger than their age. Or stop growing.
FR.
She sure shows the lack os sparkle of a 40yo
@Jaya4life8565yes, a child actress is actually a child
@Jaya4life8565 it maybe due to the makeup, probably to “mature” her because she’s a bride I’ve seen a lot of child brides that are often times caked in makeup because they want them to look mature which is disturbing
@hotsyndromeyou've seen a lot of child brides???
The horror of expression in his face as if his soul left his body once he realized... Chilling
I really hoped to say the rest of the episode
Yeah cause I bet his kinda did just leave his body
Not to mention the great sound design and the music dropping to be more eerie and disturbing it really makes your heart and stomach sync and sets the tone for the scene
“We all need to protect our children” She says after she married hers off
I wonder if she was in a position where women weren’t able to speak in that family
I wonder what she meant by that... Perhaps the only choice she was empowered to make was trying to get a kind groom for her daughter 🤮
Maybe thats why her mother was wearing black to a wedding. Most likely mourning the loss of her daughter.
I thought that person who started the fire was shouting...protect the children. I thought that the fire was there to stop the wedding?
@LydiBugB-zk2lsI don’t really think this is much of an an excuse, many people leave their situations with absolutely nothing. She could’ve done more to protect her daughter
I find it so interesting that her name is "Lily".
She is, quite literally, the flower girl. It's what she was meant to be that day, and she is occupying a spot different from hers.
you mean she should have been the flower girl. Yes I agree
@shayshay9764 I think they mean it in and a more symbolic way. Lily itself is a flower and you can see that the girl is a young child and her name is Lily. Hence her role in the wedding should be a flower girl, but the devastating reality is that she is the bride.
It is fiction.
@AllenSymonds its a reality for MANY girls
She was the beautiful flower that some creep picked up.
Mom says, "Protect our children."
Then she goes and allows her daughter to marry a 30+ year old man. The math ain't mathing!
Yeah it ain't
She's a major hypocrite.
many cases, indeed
Typical trump mom. What's not to understand?
My best friend in high school was forced by her father to marry at the age of 15 after he arranged it with the guys father. He never let her date anyone but this guy. He was truly the most unattractive, greasy, smelly guy with rotted teeth, bad breath, a poor attitude, and coke bottle glasses, and treated her like a servant. He never would have married anyone if his father hadn’t bought her. After 10 years with him she left him, and for the first time in her life married the love of her life.
im so glad she left him and found happiness
Which country
@light6220small town in the US in the 70’s.
Sad world we live in.
what sickened me the most is all those people, ADULTS, who should know better went to that wedding like it was normal
To them it is. There are Republican senators etc actively working to make it legal mostly in the south. They are even trying to make age of consent 14 or under....
thats Islamophobic
And as more Muslims invade the USA..
Olivia Benson would've had the "consenting" parents and most of the wedding attendees in jail by the end of the episode 🤣
Thank you!!! Exactly!
Unfortunately, no she couldn’t. Everyone they’re doing is legal, so she has nothing to bring them in on.
@greenbeantm1096 I'm pretty sure it was a joke. 😂
@greenbeantm1096I don’t think you’ve ever seen law and order. She would find something to hold them with.
@mushmus-o9e if they’d broken a law then you’re right
Child marriage absolutely disgusts me.
Me top
Imagine it was extremely common in medieval times
Me too,terrible
@nicolasdiez7688 wasn't that called the dark ages Lol?
@nicolasdiez7688 It really wasn’t, most people got married at what we’d now consider legal adulthood. It was the nobles who did child marriage to secure alliances, or just cause they were powerful freaks who could get away with it (Henry VII and Catherine Howard).
"parental consent" is such a bs term. with that logic, a parent could r4p3 their kid because they consented.
i think thats actually a thing in some countries iirc. thats the problem i have with the whole if the parent consents its fine. its like gender transitions where they are like its between the parent child and doctors. its just wrong to have parental consent for a lot of these things
@avarocky3742 yup
Right they think as long as you are a parent you know everything like uneducated parents exist? Evil people could be parents?
The number of loopholes baked into pur laws in favor of child predators is disgusting.
That's what happens when men write the laws.
What do you expect from a country built upon rich pedophiles owning slaves?
@annebaby3126 Thank the lord for that. It'd be ten times worse if they didnt, with all the, yknow, female teachers being predators and allat. And it wasn't men pushing the "map" thing because it was "inclusive"
@annebaby3126and you think the mothers of the child bride aren't also handing her over to the old man too? You thought it was only the father that is handing her over? The mothers also support this. So therefore, women are also supporters of this nonsense.
The ones writing the laws are predators themselves. The Epstein files prove it
I'll never understand how any adult could look at a child and think "yup I'm going to marry that child". How sick is that? And that the US still allows it to be legal?! I don't care if it's a cultural, religious, whatever tf they want to call it, these are CHILDREN. They are still growing up, mentally emotionally and physically, and these people think they're ready to be married? Absolutely disgusting.
It's so sick they are only children
@g3tf673d and I hate it when they try to justify it by saying years ago it was normal for 12 year olds to marry and have families, etc.
we now know that the brain doesn’t fully develop til age 25. So even 18 is quite young. When you know better you do better.
It’s sad when children are denied a childhood.
Everyone’s a child even when they’re an adult
religion.
The poor child bride was traumatized
Obviously. Horrifically traumatized. Sickening the child was forced to go through with it.
but she every conservative man´s dream woman!!
@janetslater129 I don't think she was traumatized due to the wedding as she said is my husband ok yes uts wrong just saying she wasn't traumatized by this she was traumatized due to the person who was an arson
@fn7.628 It's a tv show, but it's sad that there are still child brides.
Buddy what 😂 that’s like conservatives saying all liberals live in California and are 666 kinds of gay
Let the record reflect that the state of New York no longer allows anyone under 18 to get married. This is why I support a charity organization that fights to end child marriage in the US
What about with parental permission? That is just as bad.
Sadly, just because they don’t allow it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen 😢.
Just like anywhere in the world.
@kathrinepearson7528 the 37 states that do allow for minors to get married have clauses stating the minor either must be emancipated, have parental/judicial consent, or pregnant/have given birth. Utah put an education clause in their laws to try and get the Mormon epidemic under control.
Unless you are Muslim and can get away with it.
@kieleahar1012 While not legal in New York, they could simply get married in another state. Married in any state, means it is recognized in all states.
My theory is that the explosion was a set up because someone didn't like the idea of a little girl getting married i hope the girl will be fine that's so sad😢😢
Later in this episode, it is revealed that the culprit was her older brother, who wanted to protect her
@cobracurse did she get out of it and why were the parents doing this???
@xOrionNebula2708 I don't think its ever explained why the parents went along with it. Whatever their reason, still not okay. Plus, I don't think she got out of it.
What movie or tv show is this
Lily's fifteen-year-old brother set off a smoke bomb at the wedding.
That is insane
So sad, she had her life stolen from her
is there any ways to know if she's okay?
Child marriage is legal as long as the parents consent. I believe it's in 37 states
Because it's legal.
@susivarga7303unfortunately fundamentalists make sure there is a way to get around most consent laws. In almost every state a child can marry with parental consent or sometimes by consent of a judge . There are men (and I guess women - their mothers) that believe in child brides .
religion
Sneaky laws passed in the name of "family values". Truly sick
Protect your children but mom signed for her to marry.
Could have been the dad. Technically consent can be given be one parent.
The mom clearly needs help too😜.....Sometimes moms can convince themselves that they do things in their children's best interests and that those actions will bring happiness/protection/financial stability or whatever for their child in the future.....so they are willing to go to extreme lengths to fulfill their twisted fantasies 😜
Decent chance mom either 1) didn’t have a day or 2) was also a child bride so doesn’t see why it’s wrong
Or she was being coerced in some way we don’t know.
How do you know it was mom? Usually in these cases, it's the dad who arranges these messed up marriages. It happens in many countries
Poor you! This is an comforting and protecting internet hug sent for that little girl 🫂
I'm so sorry you had to live through that.
Wow. I cant imagine. I'm so glad you are back now. I do hope you are doing well now
Even though he has been neglected as a quad and suffered,,,
I'm 45. On my birthday my Dad bought me a pokemon set for $250. He worked at a job to get the money.
I'm too old to get such an expensive treat. A childish, not going to benefit anyone but the chikd in me, treat.
Life is funny.
But this above is an overheating of an engine......
Or when systems shut down but start rebooting, waiting for the first command
Your name
That’s absolutely heartbreaking. That poor girl.
That must have been traumatizing and I'm so glad she survived that
@tmac369 better than a dude 30 years older than her
This is may be a show to you, but there was a video recently that went viral about a child bride crying as the much older man puts a ring on her finger at her wedding. She looked maybe 9 years old. And another girl getting choked because she refused to sign marriage papers.
This is happening right now in the world. I really hope somebody would do something to stop this evil. These families don't want to protect their children they want to ruin their lives.
IN LONDON, IN JUST THE LAST 2 WEEKS, ISLAM HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH CONTROL THEY HAD A MASS 30-40 COUPLE WEDDING & ALL BRIDES WERE 8-13
*The New Prime Minister of UK, Starmer, is totally backing Islam against English, including Blasphamy Laws that execute anti-Islam behavior....... literally like having Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan controlling UK from inside UK.*
Ban religion, traditions, don't have children, don't get married. The nature will take care of the rest and extinct humans.
Sometimes, in times like This You wish you had Super Power to go Country to country search for this so called Human in disguise and Used you're portal ability or Space Pocket Dimensions and sent them away or hacking mastery to take their Money, All of it.
Which is why it's depicted in a show that presents cases that happen in real life.
This goes on every day in Afghanistan.
Fundamentalist Mormons, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and their ilk.
We can’t call other countries backwards. Trump is making us a “great” third world country.
What series is it?
New Amsterdam
What culture is that? Just regular Americans?
@i@ilb473 Definitely not. The majority of Americans do NOT support child marriage. It's sick people who do.
@its.hxnna07they don't look ethnic. Maybe they are amish or smth
I was married at 17, my mother signed permission. I told my daughter I would never sign for her to married before 18, even if she was pregnant.
I am just curious. Why do you think this one year between 17 and 18 matters?
@sasbe1852 it might be because at age 18, you have to sign permission personally and your parents cant do it for you.
Ask r kelly @sasbe1852
I read about that!!
Disneyland W moment
@wolf_paw💯
@scopscorpion ah yes, nothing like forced marriage with at least one of the parties being underage to form a cohesive household 🤡🤡🤡 and clearly we’ve never heard of children from "cohesive households" beung fcked up by said households 🤡🤡🤡
Age for marriage shouldn’t be lower than the age of consent. Anything else just doesn’t make sense to me.
If a child does not want to get married, surely the authority can step in and make her a ward of court, although it should be illegal
Who's going to tell the authorities?
I think they child said yes and no I dont think u can pressure a child but I think they pressured her in a way to say yes
Lily looks really exhausted even for a little kid her age.
My cousin at 14 had to marry some 36 year old rancher in Florida she died 1 year later.
Rest In Peace Jo 😔
😢
I’m so sorry
🕊️ 💔
Oh my gosh
The worst part is that child marriage IS LEGAL in 40 states. And the first state to ban it (Delaware) didnt ban it until 2018!!!! In some states, there's no age minimum.
40 states ? That’s shocking !
The US is seriously a third world country in so many ways but they lord it over the rest of us like they’re the leaders of the free world. It’s almost laughable.
That’s disgusting
Forty states!!!! And people used to admire America! I never did, but then I didn’t find segregation, and no health service, very admirable! But allowing child marriage, a new low!
It’s legal in musIIm countries
Back at highschool I had a friend who got married at 15 year old to 30 year old man who was a football player she invited the whole class to her wedding we all thought it was so cool she got married to a rich guy but now that i got older i realised how f up that was
Sick indeed
Right now (March 2025) child marriage is legal in Missouri and there is a bill trying to pass the legislature to ban it. It passed the Senate with only one senator opposing. Hopefully it will pass the state house.
I think that one senator should be looked into
@grantbarday5760 exactly!!
lraq lowered marriage age to 9 because their qroqhet loved graping his 9 yo wlfe
37 states out of 50 allow minors to get married.
4 of those states have no statutory minimum age.
sweet home murica
Terrible
Where?
I've heard stories that my much older brother who is now deceased, got a young girl pregnant and married her when she was only 16. 🤦🏼♀️
@schattenseele66 laughs in middle east
Child marriage is legal in 37 states. 4 have no minimum age requirement.
Between 2000 and 2018 there were 300,000 legal child marriages in the USA. Some to children as young as 10.
I thought they passed a federal law last year saying no one under the age of 18 can be married. It sparked much debate.
@LizzyDeeAgape It may have been proposed, but not passed.
Shocking and disturbing 😳
@peepslostsheep oh ok. I wasnt sure it passed but I know its was proposed. I really thought it passed but not 100% sure. Hopefully it will soon!
@LizzyDeeAgape It absolutely needs to be passed and fast - I'm not in the US, but one of the things I check before officiating is that both parties are totally legal, and that includes their birthdate
here we think of child brides happening in rural Africa, not the USA!
How about the guests? How can we accept being a guest to that kind of marriage ?
They all grew up in that culture. They think it’s normal
"We don't need feminism, women can already vote" and they also get married before even becoming teenagers.
What the fk are you?
Then, once married, they will lose the right to vote. That is what the Republicans are planning.
they want to get rid of the vote for women
This.
Fighting against child marriage is not "feminism'', it's a human rights issue...
The musical score and the siren when he realizes she is the bride
It gets chills in my spine
Being in a catatonic or near-catatonic state is very scary. You know you're there but you just CANNOT speak or respond or even think. You feel yourself slowly slipping further unto it and you don't know how to get out. On top of being forced to marry a man (who is likely much older than her), I'm sure she also felt scared from feeling 'stuck' in that state.
(I havent watched the episode so I'm assuming the husband is much older)
Thank you for your insight
Yeah, but the doctor was literally doing the worst things possible… I would have been so mad when I came out of it. It makes no sense when people are acting happy around you when you are completely mentally unstable, it makes them an enemy and confuses you.
that little girl`s acting is look so natural i would say, by the end of this video she asked either her husband is ok or not making me low-key feel bad for her ...
I think she is much older than she immediately looks.
@cnj67 Talia Cuomo, who played Lily was 12 when this filmed.
@tigertbalm 😮
How.. how could any parent do that to their child😢
Money. These pedos will pay the parents to marry the kids.
traditions & religions......
@mho... In my opinion any tradition or religion that violates children is sick & evil
@ soo alll religions then......
IN LONDON, IN JUST THE LAST 2 WEEKS, ISLAM HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH CONTROL THEY HAD A MASS 30-40 COUPLE WEDDING & ALL BRIDES WERE 8-13
*New Prime Minister of UK, Starmer, is totally backing Islam against English, including Blasphamy Laws that execute anti-Islam behavior.. Literally like having Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan controlling UK from inside UK.*
Racism and privilege are why Indians may be prosecuted for child marriage, but white people are not.
No we blame Muslims. As i5s written into the quran.
You can remove the word some. 37 states is more then half. And you are right, it is completely shocking.
Exactly at least the Govt is doing smth and not legalizing it
Believe me or not, this is happening all over the world. The youngest i know is still a baby. There are very sick people in this World.
Evil
whatt?/?
do you have article where I could read that?
Yeah, I think I've heard about a girl being married off to someone while being only 11 months old...
Tragic and traumatizing indeed...
A WHAT????
Okay that was really well done and it actually gave me chill when she said that.
Very few people know that California has no minimum age as long as there is parental consent
I'm very happy the family wasn't given a southern drawl, because most people think of it as a deep south kind of thing
But are they then allowed to consummate the marriage? If one of the couple was an adult, wouldn’t the adult be charged as a PDFile? It’s sad that many children have their childhoods stolen from them 😔💔
Actually, they also require a Superior Court judge's signature.
@Amaryllis-4U Yes. Consummation becomes legal if married. 🤢
California is one of 4 states with no minimum listed.
@Amaryllis-4Uno, because they are husband and wife. It’s sick.
The child isn't the flower girl she's the bride 😮😮😮
This episode was insane! The crazy thing is they went to the Caribbean to get this blood donor with this rare blood type for the husband of the child bride. They didn’t know until afterwards. But yes it is crazy how in the US we still have child brides.
What show is this?
@terrymoser47 new Amsterdam
Crazy? Yes. Insane? Yes. Vile? Absolutely. Barbaric?
Why? The US doesn't respect women's rights.
Yeah what show is it?
The little girl seriously looks like a younger version of bloom lol
Child marriages should be illegal, and those who allow it should be in prison, cultural or not!!!..
Child marriage is so cringey wrong on an epic level
It's just evil. Pure unadulterated evil.
Jerry Lee Lewis was married seven times. One of his most notable marriages was to Myra Gale Brown, who was his first cousin once removed and was 13 years old when they married, while he was 22.
Disgusting
This gave me chills and the scary thing is that it still happens in so many places in the world - but also in the united states. It has to be stopped
And all those guests stood by 🤢
How sick and twisted.. child marriage should be illegal
This is what the "what about the children!" crowd does to their kids. Or at the very least, they're okay with their buddies doing it to theirs.
What do you mean with "what about the children!" crowd? Who do you mean?
Because many different groups of people are like "what about the children". So I don't know who you're referring to.
What are you even talking about?
@jollyquinn430 republicans. Guess you don't pay attention to the news. A few states in recent years have tried to ban the practice only the have republicans that cry outrage about people being gay is wrong because of the children or banning books because think of the children, only to turn around and think of the children they can marry
@jollyquinn430The fact that this was the first thing you thought to say makes it pretty clear where you land on that chart.
Exactly. Texas has a big problem with this issue.
Amazing how so much of the world agrees that child "marriage" is disgusting, yet most of the world still allows it to happen.
Honestly, it breaks my heart how Manifest the Unseen by Luna Rivers isn’t getting the attention it deserves. This book changed me. People need to wake up to this.
Isn't that an AI generated book?
"DON'T CALL HER A FLOWER GIRL! SHE'S THE BRIDE... AND DON'T CALL ME A FLOWER BOY! I'M HER GROOM!"
Actually, in summer 2024 it has been ratified that in 4 states of the US there is NO minimum age for a 'wife' ... !!!
How can parents who allow this sleep at night? Who in their right mind would allow it?
Ask the reIigion of peace
Dr. Iggy Frome, he is doing great with his portraying that pyschiatrist who is just really talkative.
Are those all democratic controlled states? Because the Dems don't give two craps about us or our children or anyone's children!
That's not true. It's not legal under 16
@katieh3236 Child marriage is legal in 37 states. 4 have no minimum age requirement.
Between 2000 and 2018 there were 300,000 legal child marriages in the USA. Some to children as young as 10.
Wait but why is there a discrepancy between the girls' and boys' ages? Is that just because of the different states, or is this a gender thing?
Could they um… provided female carers to female patients ESPECIALLY when they suspect trauma? You wouldn’t know how many girls and women have been assaulted or cooerced or intimidated to the point of being unknowingly unable to interact with men. They just show a survival respons and detatch from reality. Untill the state of the world changes, this should be policy. Maybe not in this instance but in reality.
I was thinking that also
I'm a woman who was abused by women, too, when I was a child. Your policy idea is disgusting and insanely harmful.
@ladyaofpineapple5000because you think women can't abuse girls and other women.
@nirvanagirllovesrock no woman would be so delusional to think that women can’t be predators too. Certainly I am not.
Her last words broke my heart.
i love the actor of the therapist so much actually and his role, hes singlehandly making me want to watch the show lol
It blows my mind how many people don’t realize that this is reality and nobody cares or helps these kids because nobody is breaking the law
sad
child abuse
They can’t say anything because it’s lsIamophobuc apparently
Wow those two are amazing actors
As soon as she grabbed the bride doll I started crying
What a talented young actress, wow!
and very🎉 beautiful too
No way!! I make wooden peg dolls. I've never seen them in media anywhere. That's such a special thing to commemorate your big day.
Wishing that for you too.✨❤
Praying child marriage ends asap
Yeah
Absolutely revolting.
I had a coworker that this happened to. It took him two weeks to snap out of it. Then another week because he acted out while he was in the psychology ward.
In four states in the US, there is no legal minimum age for marriage, as long as there is parental consent and/or a court mandate.
Whats crazy is you can be married underage and it doesnt even give you any other legal autonomy the overage spouse basically has custody of you.
I’ve never seen the next part of this episode and I’ve seen this scene a million times. It kills me I want to know what happens next so bad
There’s nothing anyone can do about it as it’s legal so she just leaves with her disgusting husband.
6:44 *”Catastrophic.”*
Totally off topic, but the actress playing Lily is absolutely stunning!
its legal to marry at 16 here, but you cant imagine what paper work you have to do for that, they check your parents more than the kids who want to marry!
Marriage of minors was allowed in all 50 stares until 2018. Only 10 states require them to be over 18. The rest are 16-17 except for California, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mississippi. These states have no age restrictions. None. It’s ludicrous
california??? 💀
My cousins wife was 14 when they got married. He was 18. Don't remember what state they had to flee to get married in order for him to not get thrown in jail when her parents got the police involved. 40 years later, they are still married.
I can’t even understand how it is legal in the US in most states for kids to marry under 18 years old! Sick sick sick
Surely this is a crime, why aren't these men being jailed for child exploitation😲😲.
Because child marriage is legal in most states. Absolutely disgusting
This is so heartbreaking. USA can ban abortion but can't ban child marriage, the worst of all evils?💔
I wish the episode ended with the hospital calling cops on them.
eventho i already read the title, the look on the man's face is exactly the look i felt myself giving as she showed...
I loved this show.. I wish it was never canceled.. The actor who played the shrink was my favorite character
The person who started the fire was her brother
But why did the mother of this child consented to this?
Money
Apparently conservative fake Christian republicans think it's what Jesus would want😂
Maybe she was one. Maybe she was brainwashed and corrupted
Consent to*
1) decent chance she didn’t get a say and it was just the dad’s decision 2) also likely is that she was a child bride so doesn’t understand why it’s wrong
How can a child or any person be forced to marry in the US????
The fact that america is still called "the land of the free" when this is legal
Now imagine Africa. Imagine the Middle East.
KINDEREHEN GEHÖREN VERBOTEN!!! Guter Film!
I’m in KY and our minimum age is 18.
@BloodyBayThere have always been current politicians who are for child marriages. Hence why so many people in power were on Epstein’s list and why it hasn’t officially been released
@BloodyBayThe show “How To Catch A Predator” (allegedly) was cancelled due to a well known politician being caught
Same in the UK just with parental consent from 16 which I agree with.
Well, that was 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back
astonishing performance by that young girl
Well... now I have to watch the entire show.
R u crazy
I don’t have any experience in this particular area, as a therapist, so I can’t say with that much confidence whether or not that’s the case.
That being said, in general I wouldn’t talk that much, in such a short amount of time.
Yes but this is television... people wouldn't watch if it was all silence.
So you think all the TV watchers should just sit and look at two people not talking?
@elysiana8889 yep, there’s that indeed.
