@@emilioorozco5891 Hey, i have a few questions for unresponsive yoyo’s, I’ve had a replay pro for a while and one of the main problem’s i’m facing is winding it up, I can’t even get it to spin Secondly, once it runs out of spin it starts spinning, does that happen to everybody?
There are not a lot, but I suggest you consider the Velocity. It plays responsively pretty well. Also, before Christmas we believe we will have a new yoyo on YoTricks that is a wide yoyo designed to play responsive. If you can hold off a couple of weeks and keep checking on YoTricks we will announce when it comes in. We also have the Velocity on YoTricks as well if you want to read our complete write-up about it.
Oh thank god! I just bought my first high quality yoyo yesterday and I've been freaking out that I somehow forgot how to make it return. A bind totally solves the problem! THANK YOU!!
If the bind doesn't work that almost always means you are either not holding the pinch long enough, or you are not getting the yoyo onto the right side of the string to do a bind. ruclips.net/video/R0wnN4blxII/видео.html
+Nolan Ngim If you do not want a yoyo to hurt your hand you should move your hand away from the yoyo as it is coming back to your hand. That will cushion the blow.
Changing the friction stickers will do that, especially if they are not particularly thin. You may want to consider cleaning the bearing if you have not done so already. FYI In a few weeks on YoTricks we will also be selling extra-thin brake pads and clean bearings specifically for making yoyos like the Freehand play perfectly unresponsive. I'll have to think about making a video about best practices for setting up a freehand for unresponsive play.
Yes. We especially recommend the Luminator Advanced Kit because it includes things like lube and strings that you will need to keep things working well.
In general I think the Whip is a superior yoyo compared with the One. However, the One comes with a thin bearing so that you can play with it responsive making it easier to learn tricks at first. If your friend does not yet know how to bind the One may be better, otherwise the Whip is better.
I would recommend getting the Luminator Advanced Kit from our website. It sounds like it is just the right level for you, and it is the yoyo we use in most of our videos.
If you are throwing it straight that usually means you just need to throw the yoyo with more power. Most yoyos will start to lean to the side when the spin is dying.
@@zyxdpm9038 That's user error. Go learn how to wind up a ball bearing yoyo from one of the the many tutorials online, and then go learn the difference between unresponsive and responsive play.

A good yo-yo is the Duncan Reflexus. It’s a plastic ball bearing yo-yo, with springs, and it’s easy to use bc it has springs which makes it come up easy. I have one myself, and it’s only 10 bucks!
I have not actually tried any of those yoyos, so I cannot say what would be best. I would recommend you either consider a Fast 201 or a Velocity, we have them on the YoTricks website.
Getting back into throwing after almost 20 years, just picked up a Duncan Butterfly XT to get back into it. Thought I was nuts, but it is made to be unresponsive! Back to the bind! Thank you for these amazing videos.
Actually the Duncan Butterfly XT is supposed to be responsive, it is just a very mediocre yoyo, so sometimes it plays unresponsive when it is not supposed to. Either way, it will work great for learning the bind and all the basics! When you are ready for an upgrade let me know and I'll offer a recommendation or two.
You guys are fast. I grabbed it because I wanted to learn to bind before stepping it up. I was already eyeing your Sage starter pack all weekend, was planning on ordering that tomorrow I've never used polyester string (I don't think anyone cared in the late 90's, lol). My gut tells me that's a good step forward into modern throwing?
Definitely. I am confident you will find it a significant upgrade that will take you quite far as you develop your skills. yoyotricks.com/shop/yoyo-store/yoyo-brands/yotricks/the-sage-yoyo-starter-pack/
Got my black SAGE in the mail last night, and I must say it's weighted VERY well. It's actually the perfect level of responsiveness for where I'm at right now. Very happy with my purchase; expectations exceeded (rare these days)! One thing though; it came with extra string; 3 white and 1 fluorescent green. The green string was crazy short right out of the box; even when I untied the knot it was almost 8 inches shorter than the white string? What's with that? Otherwise perfect purchase! Thank you guys!
We have tricks of all difficulties on the YoTricks website, and all the tricks on the site are arranged by difficulty to it should be easy to find a trick that is as complicated as you like.
I suggest you go onto YoTricks.com and take a look at the First 50 trick list (it is listed in Trick Sets in the Yoyo Tricks Menu). Once you know those tricks you should be ready to learn anything.
You can do whatever you want with your own yoyos, of course, but if you lube the Speed Bearing with medium or thick lube it will become responsive. If you lube it with a small amount of thin lube it will help the bearing last longer and it can still be unresponsive.
I have a Duncan Metal Drifter. I haven't yoyo-ed in awhile and I found myself struggling to make it return. That last clip is what I needed to look into :) thanks
jason watson yeah mine was unresponsive when it apparently is supposed to be responsive. I had to loop the string around the bearing twice and it worked better
If you have never yoyoed before I would try the FAST 201. If you have yoyoed a little I would get a Luminator Advanced Kit from our website, it is the yoyo we use most in our videos and it is a great yoyo to get you started!
It sounds like you need to put a little lube on the axle. By putting some medium lube on the axle (like Super Lube which we carry on the YoTricks website) it will help the yoyo become much more responsive. (Assuming you are using a ball bearing yoyo).
+Super Mario Most often if a bind is not working it is either because you are not pinching the string long enough, or you are not getting the yoyo onto the right side of the string for the bind. ruclips.net/video/R0wnN4blxII/видео.html
It is either because the string is too tight on the axle, or because there is a knot in the string. If the string is too tight you can spin the yoyo at the bottom of the string to loosen it. If the string is in a knot around the axle you will either need to get the knot out of the string or replace it with a new string.
If the pro z is not coming back up that means you need to lube the bearing and the axle. I suggest you pickup some Super Lube, we have some on the YoTricks website.
That buzzing sound it pretty normal in yoyos like the Boomerang that have a clutch system. I believe if you put a little lube or Vaseline on the axle it may stop this from happening.
I just ordered the whip so thats a relief to hear. Apparently i've got a natural talent because I was able to bind in the first few tries so I ordered an unresponsive yoyo.
We have a video about how to throw a yoyo, I suggest you take a look at that. I think if you do a youtube search for learn to throw a yoyo you should find the video.
The whip is a good yoyo but only if you already know how to bind. If you do not know how to bind it will be very frustrating. You should be able to get the whip to sleep over a minute easy, maybe even 2 minutes. If you get the Whip from YoTricks you can get it in a pack that includes extra strings and lube for a discount.
You should throw the yoyo upward so that it does not fly away when you throw it. Instead it should fly up so that when it comes down you should catch it on the string.
It sounds like you just need to put a little lube on the axle. If you do not have any yoyo lube you can use a little petroleum jelly (Vaseline) instead.
It plays okay while it is working, but the bolt has a tendency to strip the threads in the yoyo rather quickly making it unusable. Because of that I would never recommend it.
I just bought a green MYY N12 with a white splash and i am waiting for it to arrive in the mail at the moment. This particular yoyo requires a bind technique. I have looked at your bind videos and it doesn't look to hard to do :) there aren't many videos of the N12 on RUclips so I might make an unblocking or maybe a review :)
That is pretty normal. You could always do a UFO to tighten the string, but I bet you will find that as you use the yoyo over time the string will tighten up on its own and work like you remember.
I just bought a Yomega Maverick, a yoyo that is supposed to be responsive. It sleeps really nicely but won’t return. What is going on with that? Edit: I took the opportunity to learn a basic bind and can pull off the bind 8 out of 10 times I try it so I guess it isn’t all bad lol
I recently bought a yomega X-brain for nostalgic reasons. Do the 4 clutches really serve a purpose or are they just for show? Idk what a yoyo ‘clutch’ is or does
It is better than a cheap yoyo like a Duncan imperial, but overall it is not a great yoyo for learning tricks. If you already have one it should be okay for learning the basics and picture tricks.
I'm sure you know me from the last video & I think you've actually solved the problem in this video. Watch at 2:30 - the end. I didn't really change the string but I did take it off. I'll try that 2nd loop as mentioned in this video & see if it will come back automaticly again. My yoyo looks just like a Brain yoyo so it might work.
I have a old yoyo (duncan neo) and I just bought new string for it (was in a box for a decade) and what helped me was twisting the string on the axle (the second to last suggestion) is that correct or is duncan neo a unresponive type yoyo, and I need to bind the yoyo?
That trick is actually called the Rocket. All you need is a responsive yoyo. Get it sleeping, take it off your finger, pull it up. Before it gets to your hand release the string.
Hi. Your vids have inspired me to get into yoyo tricks and such. I had purchased a basic Duncan Butterfly until I got the basics down and purchased one with bearings. The issue I instantly seem to have is the yoyo spins really wobbly and then won't come back up, or comes back up with the string tangled and jammed. Is this just because I need more practice? Any tips?
Hi! I just bought the YoYo Edge as my first yoyo. I know it's advanced but I like to buy things I can fully grow into. Have I gone over my head? The yoyo won't return from sleep. Is it "unresponsive" or "responsive"? Should I shelve it and get another yoyo in the meantime? I want high quality but I don't want to worry about super hard tricks until I can get a feel. I wanted to throw and return for a while just to get a feel.
Hey there! The Edge is an unresponsive and while it is a great yoyo, we don't recommend starting on it. For starting we recommend the Sage Starter pack, which will come with everything that you need to get started. Once you learn the basics on the Sage you can start using your Edge again and you will have much better appreciation of it!
Brandon Jarvis dont be fooled. you can use any yoyo to get started on. hes just here to make sales on the sage because beginners dont know better. i started on the yyf shutter and ive been using it for a couple years. now i can compete in my local contests. dont buy more than what you need to.
I recently bought The Sage yoyo from your website and when I first unboxed it, it responded perfectly. After two days or so, the response became unpredictable. (Sometimes it was first try with a weird amount of slack, sometimes it took four tries, sometimes it didn't respond at all). I applied unresponsive lubricant that I also purchased from your site and it worked again perfectly for a few spins, but then the issues started recurring. The string is also relatively new so I cannot figure out what me issue is. Any ideas on what the problem is? PS, Your site is awesome and I've learned all of my tricks from your videos.
I have one too now, a limited edition with black and gold, it looks like a time-traveller! But wouldn't it be too heavy and unresponsive for a child? Anyway, you can help me with mine's: how can you improve the looping without using too much oil? Thank you! :)
What about response pads? After a little over a month, my Sage has been very iffy and inconsistent with regards to its response. I replaced the string and lubed the bearing, but I'm still having the same problem. Might I need to replace the response pads?
Hi, I have a ball-bearing yo-yo and I took it apart long ago to change the string (wasn't aware of the loop thing that I now learned thanks to your videos) and when I tighten the yo-yo it doesn't sleep and I have to keep it a bit looser for it to sleep but then, after a while it almost falls apart with the sides moving, I've tighten it up and put a brand new string on it with the method that you showed but I'm still having the same problem, any tips? Thanks for the awesome videos I enjoy watching them.
I'm not sure about the model cause my girlfriend bought it for me some years ago, I can message you a picture of it if you want me to? I've tried tightening the yo-yo all the way and then putting the string but I'm still facing the same problem. :( I'm not looking to go professional with a yo-yo but i think it's a nice time killer so I'd like to have it set-up properly. thx again.
I just recently bought the Sage starter pack from yotricks and the description said it's a responsive yoyo. However, no matter how much I tugged on it, why is it not coming back to me? It always sleeps before dying off. I install the string as per the manual or should I wind it around the bearing twice instead of once?
+Zhi Yen Leong A double or triple wrap around the bearing will make it play more responsive. However, what we recommend is lubing the bearing with the thick yoyo lube that came in the pack.

It is either because the string is too tight on the axle, or because there is a knot in the string. If the string is too tight you can spin the yoyo at the bottom of the string to loosen it. I have a old yoyo (duncan neo) and I just bought new string for it (was in a box for a decade) and what helped me was twisting the string on the axle (the second to last suggestion) is that correct or is duncan neo a unresponive type yoyo, and I need to bind the yoyo?
What do did is correct. It is not an unresponsive yoyo.
Thanks for the quick response!
Can you do a tutorial on the trick sattelite recovery?
That trick is actually called the Rocket. All you need is a responsive yoyo. Get it sleeping, take it off your finger, pull it up. Before it gets to your hand release the string.
yotricks Oh okay but in the Phillippines its called that. I don't get why its different. :|
The Magic T8 does not come back. It requires a Bind. Yotricks has a video on how to do it. It's a great yoyo!
It could, I believe. It is better to use lube designed for yoyos and yoyo bearings.
No, I have never actually used a Ned yoyo. Which yoyo are you talking about?
Yes, if you want your yoyo to play responsive.
Any tips?
Jacob Zimmel What yoyo did you get?
yotricks lol just relized i typed my original comment wrong. im still using the duncan
yotricks I just tried throwing it harder and it worked a lot better. Now just gotta work on catching it lol.
You saved the day here! Thanks so much for a really helpful video. No more tears :)
have you turned the setting to beginner?
Perfect! Thanks for the response! I'll go check out the Sage!
For the Sage to play as responsive as you like you need to use the thick responsive lube.
yotricks I'm sorry, I was mistaken, it is the responsive lube (I got the beginner pack you guys offer). Any other ideas what might be wrong?
I have one too now, a limited edition with black and gold, it looks like a time-traveller! But wouldn't it be too heavy and unresponsive for a child? Anyway, you can help me with mine's: how can you improve the looping without using too much oil? Thank you! :)
If it only comes half-way up when the brain mechanism grabs the string this means you have it setup properly, but the yoyo is just not that great.
What about response pads? After a little over a month, my Sage has been very iffy and inconsistent with regards to its response. I replaced the string and lubed the bearing, but I'm still having the same problem. Might I need to replace the response pads?
Possibly.
What yoyo do you have? You should try tightening it all the way and not putting the string on until after you have tightened the yoyo.
I'm not sure about the model cause my girlfriend bought it for me some years ago, I can message you a picture of it if you want me to?
I've tried tightening the yo-yo all the way and then putting the string but I'm still facing the same problem. :(
I'm not looking to go professional with a yo-yo but i think it's a nice time killer so I'd like to have it set-up properly. thx again.
Does the yoyo say anything on it? Without knowing what kind of yoyo you have we won't know how to help you.
The only words on it are "The Polar Lights"
Great video for beginners. I had the same question before i found what unresponsive yo-yo is.
2 questions:
YYF Northstar; is that a good yoyo compare to the whip?
And how much is the YYF whip?
It is an okay yoyo if you are just getting into yoyoing and string tricks.
At which point?
I just recently bought the Sage starter pack from yotricks and the description said it's a responsive yoyo. However, no matter how much I tugged on it, why is it not coming back to me? It always sleeps before dying off. I install the string as per the manual or should I wind it around the bearing twice instead of once?
change the bearing with the other bearing in the pack
+Zhi Yen Leong A double or triple wrap around the bearing will make it play more responsive. However, what we recommend is lubing the bearing with the thick yoyo lube that came in the pack.
We are hoping by the end of the summer, possibly sooner.
