those guys, in those remote places... it's just astounding sometimes. I've been to bolivia few years ago so these are very similar sights. I'm always amazed by how different parts of the earth are so distanced from each other in terms of advancement.
And I see that 19 people died. Most unfortunate. It is reported that the right-hand engine of the plane (9N-AHA) hit a vulture after takeoff. The plane stalled and crashed 500m from Kathmandu airport. A relative of the co-pilot said he had warned that flights on the airline were routinely overloaded, which pilots discover only after takeoff, and that a nearby slum attracted birds to the Kathmandu runway.
Yeah, skidded from the runway while landing. Unfortunately, these kind of incidents are not uncommon in the region. Recently two aircraft had similar "skidding incident" at Simikot Airport in a span of a week.
The boulders at the end of the runway are a nice touch.
