Hello, I'm in the market for a very good vocal microphone. Can you tell me if the Austrian Audio OC16 would be a solid purchase??? Any other recommendations??? I want a mic that will be solid for both Vocals and recording Acoustic guitars.
Apart from the hardware talk, I'm impressed with your voice Sanjay. Of course it's great to have it recorded faithfully but then it's also the original raw material you have to work with!
❤️🔥🎶 WOW YOUR VOICE!!! I'm such a fan and love seeing what you've been working on and testing for weeks... so beautifully executed for the people! 👏🏽✨🙌🏽 Great work! ❤️🔥🎶
Lots and lots written about the pre-amps in this and yes of course that's a key aspect of the device. But it is an audio interface at the end of the day, what is it's DAC like, what sample rate can do it, how does it sound, how is it for mixing, how does it compare to the UAD outs. I'm just as interested in the sound output as I am the input.
What an amassing little unit who would have thought Heritage i73. It's perfect for everything. Seems like one of the few small interfaces with so much thought. It seems a bit like a labour of love, no compromise. Excellent review, Thank you

What a beautiful voice! Loved listening to you. Not only do you share amazing content that helps us but you are blessed with a fabulous voice. Thank you, Sanjay C.
It’s not just a green square that doesn’t do anything… its the top of the transformer casing…. HA chose to stick it though the control panel for aesthetic effect…. A bit like when custom cars of old used to have air intakes poke through the bonnet.
Looks pretty awesome .. definitely not a beginner toy ..this ones for the guys who worship the 1073 ... great video and rooting for the 500K subs.. have a great day sanjay
It’s been a while , I’ve watched some of your videos and two things I need to point out. one is you’re always very informative ,when it comes to the gear you showcase and two, I almost forgot what a great sound you have as an artist .that’s all I wanted to say
Awesome video! You explain everything simply with confidence, I imagine you saved me weeks of wondering what to do next. The biggest difference I hear is cancelation of the breath noise and a barely perceptible fading effect that gives the input a warmer tone. Reminds me adjusting the amount pixels used in a software spray paint brush.
My outboard gear consists only of a Manley mic pre, Apollo X6, Manley Core, and Heritage Audio compressor. This gave me an amazing sound that I didn't have at the studio when using a UA610, API, and Seven Circle. Big change!
It definitely looks like a pretty sweet interface. I clicked through on the links to see the price, $649. That's not a horrible price at all, definitely less than I was expecting. Anyhow, your video was fantastic, as is quire consistent for your presentations. :D Thank you, Sanjay.
With normal gain (not overdrive) It sounds the same as a regular preamp. I hear more differences in the performance than I hear from the electronics. You talk and talk about how wonderful the differences are but you will probably fail to recognize it in a blind test. You know, this thing that nobody does but it's the only way to know what you really can hear. This is why they put the transformer on top for you to see :) From a business point of view it's a great idea, I'm sure many will buy into this.
Bae has always been much darker than other 1073 styles. However I personally think Heritage line of 1073 sounds the closest to an actual Neve. I do like Bae especially on brighter sources. Heritage on most vocals.
You make some good points in regards to the BAE and Heritage Audio. I like using outboard gear. I am thinking of going to nearly 100% analog even using a multi-track tape machine. The sound they get is just better in my opinion. I have a Neve 1073 SPX.
Sanjay out here sounding like Jon B 😎 great vid per usual. I’m between grabbing an ID44 and an Audiofuse. This interface looks great if you don’t have a great mic pre and don’t play a ton of instruments. It’s big brother is amazing if you have the bread.
Good stuff. I wanted that analog preamp sound, but didn't want to spend a lot of cash on a whole set up that didn't work great with the limited ins and outs of my Black Lion interface. Adding plugins sounded good, but crashed even my M2 processor when I added them during recorded. So, I bought a JHS Colour Box V2. It sounds like a 1073, and it has uses for instruments like bass and guitar that make it a neat pedal. However, when I upgraded my interface to a UAD Apollo and got the ability to use the 1073 as a unison preamp (and many others), I looked to sell the 1073 hardware off. I am going to upgrade the Twin to more channels via ADAT and forgo the analog for the time being. The UAD unison preamps, preset suggestions, and the added DSP to run them in the Twin is a great combo. This Heritage model is a cool inbetween having a lot of UAD like options.
Another really great review. I like the sound quite a bit, however I'm not sure about it on the front end. I guess you can also turn it off completely? BTW - I also love to hear your voice. You are write a good singer.
My spoken voice? I use Waves Clarity de-reverb, then a de-esser, and a compressor. For my singing voice, I used a de-esser, compression, and then FabFilter delay, Waves Doubler, and Valhalla VintageVerb.
It would have been even better if they added a separate output of the mic pre before hitting the AD/DA converter so we can use it as an external preamp since most studios already have a decent audio interface. But still it's pretty decent.
I'm not sold on this until I see an actual comparison between this and the best plugin versions of the 1073 like Arturia, Universal Audio or IK Multimedia. Shame that wasn't in the video.
7:45 I feel like this should be one know and a button. Turn knob = gain. Click button + turn knob = character and no gain, essentially inversely proportional. Two clicks + knob = gain AND character. 🤷🏽♂️
Great video! I have the Pro Edge. Love it. Having the same issues with the i73 mixer software. I can't keep it open for more than a minute it two. Hope they issue an update soon.
Honestly the bigger version of this interface is the only product that IMHO is a complete homerun for a professional home studio VS a commercial studio. A commercial studio makes money but most importantly, has a large console so that all the different effect busses for Jimmy working room A monday to wednesday are there, and all the ones for Samantha working thursday to saturday are also there, plus room microphones, etc You don't actually need that many I/O in a home studio, even a professional one - not today at least. You can always track everything live by renting a commercial recording room. No need to patch in a hardware pre, no need to worry about latency, killer DSP, great monitoring functions... what's not to love?!
LOL I guessed Neve right away when you said "guess what it's modeled after?" Might go out and get this if it's not too much money to buy, nice vocals by the way!
It’s plug & play…. but if you want to access no latency recording w dsp you have to use software… But if u just using the dry output signal from mic pre you don’t need to open interface..
have you tried the Universal Audio LA-610 MK2? I was missing something on vocals for a long time, it was that piece of gear, absolutely love it, still learning it but its a huge difference to my other way of doing things
Pretty big price difference so you have to consider that. I think I would like choose this if you really want that 1073 analog sound (and can hear the difference).

I’m always confounded by these sort of things. Are these any closer to the “actual” sound of the original vs any software emulation in UAD or Slate or any OTHER plugin variant? Would it make more sense to just cop an Apollo or continue to use my Slate All Access?
Never buy something like this because it's not there enough and if you push you get a ugly sound, pro studio, a series of outboard gears and each and their sound at the end gives a glorious sound, different from dry, bur just this alone is not gonna get you that true Thang you want.
