Great video! Very informative. Would you say that Dermatology specialties have a better work/life balance than other specialties? In additon, what other specialties offer a relatively good work/life balance? I am considering a neurology speciality, but I am afraid that most of my time will be spent working.
Hi Jalyssa, I would say that lifestyle depends on what you choose to do in every field, even in dermatology. On the whole, dermatologists tend to work mostly in the clinic setting, and clinic hours are more controllable (ie 9 am to 6 pm). If you choose to do Mohs surgery as a dermatologic subspecialty, your hours may be different.
Hi Riley! The official fellowships after dermatology residency for subspecialty training include dermatopathology, Mohs micrographic surgery, pediatrics, and cosmetics, and there are others that you can arrange if you have a particular interest, such as complex medical dermatology. I don't know of specific fellowships in skin of color but I think people will try to work with other experts in that field and learn from them as their form of training.
