  • A model village built by the Lever brothers to accommodate its factory workers from the soap factory next door. ‪@walkingwithbill‬ explorers this village with its houses that come in mixture of architect styles mainly due to at least 13 separate architects being employed on the project. Built between 1899 and 1914 the village has 800 houses an art gallery, temperance hotel, open air swimming pool, church, theatre, concert hall and allotments. The aims of Lord Leverhulme, as he became, were "to socialise and Christianise business relations and get back to that close family brotherhood that existed in the good old days of hand labour."
It was also the place where Ringo Star made his first gig with The Beatles at Hulme Hall when they were on their Wirral tour in the 1960s.
