- Billy "Crash" Craddock is an American country and rockabilly singer. He first gained popularity in Australia in the 1950s with a string of rockabilly hits, including the Australian number one hit "Boom Boom Baby". Switching to country music, he gained popularity in United States in the 1970's with a string of top ten country hits, several of which were number one hits, including "Rub It In", "Broken Down in Tiny Pieces", and "Ruby Baby". Craddock is known to fans as "Mr. Country Rock" for his uptempo rock-influenced style of country music. His unusual nickname was given to him by his high school football team and it would stick on and off the playing field for the rest of his life.
"Knock Three Times.” became the first of nine number one singles for Crash and literally paved the way for his world-wide success. Other number ones include “Rub It In,” “Ruby Baby,” “Broken Down in Tiny Pieces,” “Easy as Pie,” “Sweet Magnolia Blossom,” “Ain’t Nothin’ Shakin’,” Still Thinkin’ ‘Bout You,” and “Dream Lover.”
Craddock consistently hit the country top ten in the 1970's and he became one of country music's first male sex symbols. Unusually handsome for a male country star of the era and dressed in stage clothes exposing his chest as he growled his way through rocking numbers and love songs with a stage persona strongly influenced by Elvis Presley.
Billy “Crash” Craddock has achieved every one of his career goals. He has toured to sell-out crowds around the world on numerous occasions, and has been able to entertain audiences time and time again.
Craddock was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2011
this be a good looking ole boy from north carolina my home state oh yeah
When my daughter was young around 3 or 4 she did not like me putting sunblock on her. I started singing this song to her and she stopped crying and started singing too. So every time I put any lotion on her we had to sing this song. She's 16 now. Time flies too quickly. I've always loved this song. What happened to the good songs like this.
Precious memories
I only knew this song back in 1974.
Was on heavy rotation back then
Same here in Australia as we were behind we didn't hear in Australia till around 1975.
Have loved this song every since 1st time hearing it!!!!!!!!!!!! Years ago!!!
Growing up in the 70s in SW FLORIDA I listened to this song every summer while hanging out at the beach
Billy Crash, the poor man's Elvis.
Still alive and performing as well
Yeah, he kinda does look like Elvis a little bit
This was a Jeopardy question tonight. I remember this song as a kid.
I had no idea that the Glade jingle was based on another song. I had to check it out.
I heard this tune coming from another vehicle at a stoplight a few days ago. I remember this as a kid. I looked over at the vehicle to see who was driving it and there was some guy my age. The first thought to come to my mind is where in the hell did all the time go?
This brings back so many good memories! I remember when my parents listened to this!! Sadly, both of my parents are gone now.
Yea I still like it too..my mom had a crush on billy crash Craddock..still a good song .sadly I lost mom a few years ago..

Somehow, I remember this song charting in 1974.
1974 is the correct year.
When I saw it as 1970, I thought something was wrong!
@@marksheetz7815 same here didn't look right 1970 .knew it was around 74 .
I WOULD LOVE TOO HAVE THIS SINGER AT MY WEDDING!
you probably could, he resides in Greensboro, NC...last I heard, and he still performs!

Awesome song
Très sympa! J'adore! ;) Bp d'étoiles pour ce partage, ma chère Eve!
Bon weekend!
I picked up this 45 back in the day, when it was new and on the charts. Seems to me there was a '74 or '75 re-release. :)
I was in ninth grade when this came out and all the girls love this song
Love it❤😅
Love this oh yeah
The only guy to get away with this. But a classic
A Greensboro NC native son.
Watched on December 19, 2022 ~ I don't think I've ever heard this song before🤣
He was gorgeous....
Heard this live at Ward 5 Jamboree before it was famous, sometime in the early 70s.
Wrong year. Billy Crash Craddock's version came out in 1974 and went to number 1 on the Hot Country Singles chart that year. The earlier version recorded by Layng Martine and produced by Ray Stevens was a chart single in 1971. That one only went to number 65 on the Hot 100, and 36 on the Easy listening chart.
Rocco you are right about the year. Nice looking out!!!
Correct! Always amazes me that people go through all the trouble to create a video and post it, but do little when it comes to researching.
Who cares .... just listen to the music geeez
Rocco, you are dead on the money as far as the year goes.
@@DrDeath-pk2tt Amen to that!
Dankeschön

"It puts the lotion on its skin,
Rub it in, rub it in."
😂😂😂😂
Remember the Glades plug in commercial, made veriation to this song.
"Plug It In. Plug It In." :)
if this song was a letter...it would be about a hundred dollars postage due.
Is this where the slang came from of how people would say ' Don't rub it in '?....or....' Yeah right, rub it in why don't ya '?. lol

The snare drum in this song should've been hit a little harder. Great tune, though! And I especially like it when he said "put a little bit right here. Yeah!". Cool! Huh-huh.

Obviously you weren’t born when this song was released. It came out in ‘74, not 1970. 🙄
Are you certain?
That song is exactly as bad as i remember it being when i first heard it as a kid back in the early 1970s.
U guys think hes talking about lotion? Lol
I just picture Trump rubbing Cheeto dust all over himself to this song
Oh shut up!
Too bad Elvis Presley record this song .
Radiohead

Sounds like the fakest thing ever when you hear this is who and where the Glade song came from
