Also, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the Two Notes Wall of Sound plugin. Didn't know it existed.
Yeah, the fact that the PT15R has the name "Suhr" on it makes it automatically three times the price... but I would still like to hear a head-to-head (literally) match up between the two.
"oh yeah, that's huge"(that's what she said! ). Amazing amp and I love the built in IR's. I am looking for an amp and they just keep pushing out more and more incredible choices. Shawn as always the playing and tone is inspirational!
Wonder if they’ll make more amps like this, from what I’ve heard, it’s all I would want bc it works so well with pedals, but hope there’s more in the future bc this is such a great thing for the price.
If someone forgets to use that reactive load button on the back panel would you just get no sound until its set correctly or will something blow up like most tube amps do without a speaker plugged in? It makes me a little nervous if its the latter. So much for buying one of these used ! Amp sounds great though. Nice demo.
Just got around to this - excellent demo and playing. Do you think as a DAW input anything would be added if used in conjunction with a Line 6 (omitting the amp and cab part of the signal chain), maybe 4 cabling? Or is it more of an alternative to the Helix as an input device? Used stand alone as an amp would you think the Helix would work well with it as an alternative to pedals?
Great demo and masterful playing as always! Was that a nod to The Who in one of those rhythym parts? Best to you man, always inspiring. Great way to start the day with one of your videos!
I really can't decide if i want to save up and get a Synergy SNY2 or the Revv D20. Im a clean player, and very rarely use any type of saturation, but i want a nice tube amp tone and feel with a great sounding direct recording solution. The SYN2 is stereo, so with that feature alone im leaning more towards that one, but the Revv sounds great and i love the build in Two Notes tech.
For a direct recording solution, the D20 truly is the better way to go in that it has the Two Notes tech with a reactive load. If stereo is an absolute must, then the SYN2 might be the better choice but you'll be sacrificing a lot of options for direct recording.
@@ShawnTubbs thanks for your response and suggestions. Been watching a lot of demos on both products and i think in terms of tone, the D20 is the winner. That amp sounds killer to my ears.
Hi Shawn. I just built a wet/dry/wet rig with my D20. I love the amp. When I went to the rehearsal room I needed to change a setting in volume in the Torpedo software. It did not start because I did not have an internet connection. Isn´t it possible to use the Torpedo SW offline? Otherwise it can get difficult if there´s not internet connection available. Thanks much, Sascha
Nice review Shawn. Great sounding little amp. Wished those switchers weren´t push/pull type. Does the load and IR's work with the cab on, or is it just one option or the other? Thanks
Probably not going to see this as it's a few years late, but how dynamic would you say this amp is? Specifically asking about more than just what people seem to refer to as "touch sensitivity", as I'm not only concerned with cleaning up from an edge of dirt sound. I'm more referring to dynamic volume output. Kinda like what you experience when playing acoustic guitar, if that makes sense. Cheers Shawn and thanks for an excellent demo
Hey all, I recently picked one of these up and very impressed, but so far I haven't been able to dial-in a full jazz or R&B tone on my Les Paul (R8). Any tips?
Thanks Shawn, really interested in this amp and wanted to see what you thought about it. As always amazing playing!! Is it posible to use both the torpedo and the speaker at the same time, speaker on stage and torpedo to house?
I'm honestly very impressed with this amp! Sounds killer through a cab on the mic and has basically a Two notes Torpedo live embedded! Oh, and yes you can run both the torpedo and speaker.
I guess I missed this one when it came out. Great job as usual....when you switched to the cab emulations built into the amp: 1 - Am I hearing you playing over a track on your DAW? 2 - In your room is the sound you hear coming out of those 2 monitors behind you? ... (since you are not wearing headphones)
Thanks!! The signal chain when I switched to the embedded reactive load and IR is: D20 XLR out > Apogee Quartet Line Input. I'm monitoring via the monitors behind me but you're hearing the direct recorded signal.
Thanks so much for watching! The REVV D20 doesn't have power scaling, just a half-power switch. The only other amp that comes to mind that would have an onboard reactive load, IR software and a headphone out like the D20 would be the Suhr PT15.
Shawn: I am considering either a D20 or G20, especially to record at home. I play metal mostly, have a G3 pedal (and love it), and am wondering if it is best for me to go D20 to get the most versatility of style. Would I likely be happy with the D20 with my G3 pedal? Or would I be best to just go G20?
@@ShawnTubbs if I’m just going straight into logic without the editor software open, is the IR happening automatically within the amp? And does that IR get signal from the amp’s power tubes?
@@benkmurray Yes there are 6 pre-loaded IR's in the D20. You would have to download the editor software from Two Notes to create a preset that has no IR.

The D20 is more of a single channel platform although it does have a crunch mode. The Mesa Mark V 25 is a two channel amp. The D20 has a 6v6 tube power section which is going to sound different than the Mesa's EL84 power section. The Friedman Pink Taco is also an EL84 power section but like the D20 is a single channel amp. The D20 and the Mesa Mark V 25 and the Friedman are all excellent amplifiers. One thing that is unquestionable is the Two Notes embedded IR in the D20 is quite a bit better than the analog cab clone circuit in the Mesa or really any analog circuit. I guess the question is really what do you need? Would you rather not use pedals and have a channel switching amp? The Mesa might be the way to go. Do you need a great pedal platform amp with incredible IR tech on board? Maybe go D20. can i attach an ipad with two notes app to d20 amp using a ios lightning cable to the D20 usb plug in using an adaptor? I ask Revv engineer and also two notes, they had no clue. and the manual is not very user friendly.
If you don't already own a good pedal platform amp the D20 is a way better solution just based on the cost alone. The UAD OX is one of the best cab modelers there is, but it alone will cost you $1299.00 before you get an amp.

Just so you know, my wife hates you. Lol. Every time you demo something, I talk about it all night. She may even sue you over all the money I’ve been spending 😂🤣. Great demo, as always!
Maybe I missed it but is the torpedo reactive load and cabinet emulation always active on the XLR output? Meaning it's active whether you have a cabinet connected or are on headphones or want to record silently etc. Obviously that switch on the back turns off the speaker output but I'm wondering if that also enables the reactive load and cab sim at the same time so you can only have either the cab sim on, or the speaker on but not both. I would hope the torpedo is active all the time so you can send that signal to front of house or to a recording interface while still having the speaker active as well to hear yourself.
The Torpedo output is active all the time. You can run the XLR out at the same time as the speaker output, allowing you to use a cabinet for reference. The Virtual Cabinet/IR would not go through the reference Cab, just direct into your interface. You can also hear the VC/IR used through the headphone output at the same time. The loadbox is a Reactive load, not resistive. The speaker load button on the back is essentialy there to mute the cabinet if you have it connected.
