I came here from learning about Todd Rogers - unfortunate but true, people who lie and cheat their way into these positions shouldn't be people you wanna believe are genuine.. they are fake and skillful liars and manipulators - false images of authenticity you should remove from your head, because they make you go off on a tangent, and go all cross-eyed. His exposer and media attention must have given him some level of uniqueness within his own mind which manifests itself as a personal fable. He absolutely believes his own grandiose and even after the scandal, he is probably so self-deluded by this point that he still believes that his score is legitimate. He may absolutely believe that everyone inside and even to an extent outside the gaming community knows him, the 'celebrity status' of sorts, he may even think he is beyond his own legend. In all my study and life this man rates as one of the highest-ranking narcissistic and egocentric individuals, especially considering the achievement that gave him the popularity is by no means noteworthy in society.
He is an interesting guy. Also he does have some legit records. Although they sort of bent the rules to accommodate him. For example his “perfect” Pac Man game. That was legit but it was categorized as perfect to fit his gameplay.

Billy claims the original tapes were long gone, while his critics claimed the video was indeed of him playing. So who was telling the truth? Floods of RUclips comments emerged suggesting Billy should play live to settle the dispute. So he did. And he achieved the high-scores in question. So the next argument against Billy was "Yes, he played and got the scores live, but the original scores Billy claimed to achieve all those years ago were still faked. And Billy simply practiced a lot these past couple months to obtain the newer scores everyone saw him stream on Twitch." Alright. That's a fair argument. But consider this. It takes years to develop such gaming skills, especially for old-school arcade games. It took Billy 19 years before he could play a perfect game of Pac-Man. So if Billy's original million point scores were indeed faked, and his previous best was in the 800,000 point range, that would imply that Billy (1.) came out of retirement with rusty gaming skills, (2.) brushed up on his playing to reach back to his original 800,000 mark, and (3.) improved his Donkey Kong skills by about 300,000 plus more points to now achieve within the ranks his critics state he originally faked to achieve, all within a 3-4 month time frame. It's just not possible! You simply can't transform from an 800,000 point player into a 1 million Donkey Kong player within that short of a time range. It takes years upon years of practice to make such improvements on Donkey Kong. No way he just "practiced and became that good" overnight. Which suggests Billy was actually capable of playing and obtaining such a high-score all along. Any other conclusion is being unfair with the evidence.
What he stated at the end about being successful as a bad guy is like in wrestling. Ric Flair, Triple H and Vince McMahon were good at making the crowd hate them. So they would play up to that. For every successful good guy, there is a successful bad guy. But off camera, many of the bad guys in wrestling are genuinely nice people.

The SECOND you point a camera in particular direction, choose a particular lens, decide to film one person instead of the other, you are making that creative choice that the truth of the situation is what you’re choosing to show. People treat documentaries as if they’re supposed to be a perfect CCTV representation, but that’s absurd. They take an observer to work, the same observer that Billy is using as an excuse against his shittiness. In the end, the filmmaker observed an awfulness in Billy, represented that awfulness in Billy. Billy now has all the right in the world to defend himself around that. But the reason the film works, is because out of all those observations still manage to ring true, despite all the editing, and ESPECIALLY in light of the continued appearances Billy makes. What we initially got was an opinion piece, but with every appearance, Billy just validates that opinion. The one thing a documentary can’t fake is earnestness, and that’s the one thing Billy keeps demonstrating he is missing.

His exposer and media attention must have given him some level of uniqueness within his own mind which manifests itself as a personal fable. He absolutely believes his own grandiose and even after the scandal, he is probably so self-deluded by this point that he still believes that his score is legitimate. He may absolutely believe that everyone inside and even to an extent outside the gaming community knows him, the 'celebrity status' of sorts, he may even think he is beyond his own legend. In all my study and life this man rates as one of the highest-ranking narcissistic and egocentric individuals, especially considering the achievement that gave him the popularity is by no means noteworthy in society.

Billy claims the original tapes were long gone, while his critics claimed the video was indeed of him playing. So who was telling the truth? Floods of RUclips comments emerged suggesting Billy should play live to settle the dispute. So he did. And he achieved the high-scores in question. So the next argument against Billy was "Yes, he played and got the scores live, but the original scores Billy claimed to achieve all those years ago were still faked. And Billy simply practiced a lot these past couple months to obtain the newer scores everyone saw him stream on Twitch." Alright. That's a fair argument. But consider this. It takes years to develop such gaming skills, especially for old-school arcade games. It took Billy 19 years before he could play a perfect game of Pac-Man. So if Billy's original million point scores were indeed faked, and his previous best was in the 800,000 point range, that would imply that Billy (1.) came out of retirement with rusty gaming skills, (2.) brushed up on his playing to reach back to his original 800,000 mark, and (3.) improved his Donkey Kong skills by about 300,000 plus more points to now achieve within the ranks his critics state he originally faked to achieve, all within a 3-4 month time frame. It's just not possible! You simply can't transform from an 800,000 point player into a 1 million Donkey Kong player within that short of a time range. It takes years upon years of practice to make such improvements on Donkey Kong. No way he just "practiced and became that good" overnight. Which suggests Billy was actually capable of playing and obtaining such a high-score all along. Any other conclusion is being unfair with the evidence.

What he stated at the end about being successful as a bad guy is like in wrestling. Ric Flair, Triple H and Vince McMahon were good at making the crowd hate them. So they would play up to that. For every successful good guy, there is a successful bad guy. But off camera, many of the bad guys in wrestling are genuinely nice people.

Or sometimes those movies are edited to better represent the truth of the larger situation OVER what the individual shot shows. The SECOND you point a camera in particular direction, choose a particular lens, decide to film one person instead of the other, you are making that creative choice that the truth of the situation is what you’re choosing to show. People treat documentaries as if they’re supposed to be a perfect CCTV representation, but that’s absurd. They take an observer to work, the same observer that Billy is using as an excuse against his shittiness. In the end, the filmmaker observed an awfulness in Billy, represented that awfulness in Billy. Billy now has all the right in the world to defend himself around that. But the reason the film works, is because out of all those observations still manage to ring true, despite all the editing, and ESPECIALLY in light of the continued appearances Billy makes. What we initially got was an opinion piece, but with every appearance, Billy just validates that opinion. The one thing a documentary can’t fake is earnestness, and that’s the one thing Billy keeps demonstrating he is missing.

As for BM, I have met him myself and he's got some good dry humor. Used to really respect him and was a big inspiration for my gaming conquests. Evidence supports that MAME or a bootleg version of some kind was used, whether or not he realized it. But I can't support his reaction to the allegations, and the legal aspect because the proof is there that it wasn't an original DK board. The only thing I could understand is if this was ignorance on BM's part, but there's secondary evidence to believe this is not the case.
That said, he's certainly a great gamer and a funny guy. That doesn't mean he's above reproach nor alleged cheating, even if he is capable of the score.

I don't know the guy and just now really seen a couple of his vids and noticed the cheating scandal. I can say this. From this interview I can tell he must be living one. It lie. He is what I know of a narcissist egomania in his own world pulling the wool over the eyes of the enemy. He doesn't seem likable to me in all honesty. I know his kind and I steer clear from that breed of people always! Life's an interesting thing we have. You'll learn about a man that claims he holds records for some of the games he plays...
