- FREEDOM FROM THE SUPERMARKET! YOU CAN DO THIS! Raising meat birds on very small acreage! Today on the farm vlog I'll show you how we set up our mobile coop or chicken tractor for putting our cornish cross meat birds on pasture, or in this case lawn. We'll teach about pastured poultry and hopefully give you some cool ideas for raising your own meat chickens for your family!

YOUR THEME SONG😂
I got looks... no regrets. Lol
Wow that beard grew back in fast! Josh is indeed a MANLY MAN!
lol
We are doing meat birds this year first time . Nice chicken tractor ! Like your feeder & watering system . 😊
You're alright Josh, like your attitude on life and health. I've been watching for at least one year and was inspired to raise layers on my small country lot. Good job and much love brother!!!!
Good job bro
Stony Ridge, We used your design and had birds in there this spring. A few weeks back we believe that a raccoon reached thru the normal chicken wire and pulled 2 birds thru the wire. Since then we have upgraded the wire to 1/4 inch squares to prevent future reach in and pull thru of the wire. Just a suggestion based on our experience. So far no issues with the upgraded wire.
i had the same so i dbled the chick wire...
Did I see a Red Ford pickup at the farm? The place is looking good.
I saw it too...😃😃😃.....another treasure to the farm.....? Another similar 100 dollar truck...? I love equipment...
PVC Salaitin pen. LOVE IT!!! wish I'dve thought of that!!! Great idea, must be SOOO light...!!!
I put solar powered motion lights on my coop also, they're the kind you highlighted on a previous video so thank you
👍
Good video Josh👍
That's a nice looking F-150!
Interesting video. That is alot of chicks.
Best channel on RUclips . God Bless You Man !
Good video like always keep up the good videos
Hi Josh your awesome
the mobile coup is great! low cost and functional! I love it
Nice red Ford F150
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
With chicks, in commercial chicken raising chicks are raised in batches of 100,000 in one building and go from chicks to meat in 90 days.
Very cool... I watched the video of the previous chickens being harvested and it was very cool... I’ll stay tuned.. thanks
Are you gonna have an update on the pork that's been curing?
Wow, your beard has grown fast since your last video
Problem with most cities is that they do not allow or permit raising chickens within the city limits. Here in Jacksonville, FL I can have only five egg layers, and I have to pay for a yearly permit.
Hey Josh, I would install height adjustable wheel at 4 corners of your chicken mobile coop, to make it even mobile, so one day when you are sick (sorry) Mrs Stoney Ridge alone can push around with little effort . Just saying....I put my washing machine on wheels, cut plywood put four swivel wheels underneath with brake. I picked up from trash bin all the parts, I picked up 20 mm thick plywood, cut into washing machine base size, so make it mobile, I can mop clean the floor underneath, better.
So my fridge, wardrobe, stand electric fan, cabinet, pretty much on the wheels 😃😃😃😃😃, I picked up plywood from trash. So fun. We live in tiny apartment so that is how I spent time at home.
That waterer jug leaks out if it not on absolute flat paver stone it will leak in half a day and needs constant cleaning or a lil peice of alge will clog the weep hole over the float
A lot of good information Josh!!
Your property is looking great!!
Got my first 20 meat chickens in a chicken tractor out on the lawn! :) I can't wait!
What do you do about grit for the chicks?
Will be doing this on our 2000M² ground in South Africa, will be hatching maggots for chicken feed as well and paster raised .
What are you talking about!?
Homemade Franks'n beans rock! 😄

Welcome aboard!
I like that set up for the chicken 👍puertorican hillbilly 🙏
Man your yard looks great! Love the stripes!!
We love your chick tractor! Hopefully soon we will be making one for our fuzzy piranhas!
Hey Josh!
Very nice video Josh.
👍👍 Wooooooooooo!! Great video Josh. Keep'em coming!!😀😄👊‼️✝🆗🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great idea, would it not be safer using 1/2" mesh rather than poultry netting.
Hi josh
Awesome, I like to know where you got the stuff to process your birds. I'm going to be doing the same thing . Looks like alot a fun to raise them.
I just got notified.
Btw, Nice video :)
Thanks! This is so interesting!
Josh I hope you plan on preserving that tobacco barn. It sure brings back memories for me. Hardly ever see the old barns like that anymore
We used to have one too on grandpa's farm.... sadly it got torn down.... hurts my heart
@@Southernfarmandkitchen when I was kid we had to work in those barns, I have hung tobacco, tied it, graded it, primed it, suckered it and hauled it from the fields to the barn. I use to think that was the worse thing in the world but now I look back on those days with fond memories. That was back in the early fifties
@@JunkDobber my great grandpa grew tobacco ... he passed away before I was born ...but rumor has it he did all the processing himself...and sold it locally as pipe tobacco and what not.... my grandfather was a farmer and he grew cabbage mostly, as did my father.... but my grandfather was more of a fishermen...he loved the water.... he turned the old tobacco house into a net house and utilized it that way...by the time I was 10 it was falling ... so they tore it down .... sad ..... if I had farmed... I would have been a 7th generation farmer...very proud of the men before me.
Side Note... I did inherit the green thumb.. I grow tomaotes, herbs and what not ... its certainly in my blood...
@@Southernfarmandkitchen My great GF was also a tobacco farmer, but my GF was a carpenter. All my Aunts and uncles were tobacco farmers except for my Dad, he helped build ships in WWII. They are all gone now.
yes you are what you eat. you eat chicken, you are chicken.
You Can just SCREW Some Loops And Put Tent Pegs To hold it Down in the Ground it will be easy to remove them and move the coop .
WoooooooooHeeeeeeeeeHeeeeeeeeee!!!!Alright!!!!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗
woo!
I had a plastic waterer like that, we had it about a week until I dropped it and it broke.
I bought a double walked galvanized one that is much better.
Yep...drop the galvanized one and it will break too my friend.....I have 3 different waterers on the farm...this style is my favorite for the mobile coops...we carry 2 half full buckets of water to fill it every morning for the baby birds......50 birds at 4 weeks drink 5 gal per day......tip for ya...if you damage the inner seal at the bottom of the galvanized one...it will leak because it's epoxied together....you can use silicone caulk to repair....I've made this repair several times on metal waterers
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer
Thanks for the tip 👍
Ive got predators that you might not have so i have to dbl. the wire on the bottom so the chicks cant poke there heads through... ringtail cats will just take their heads off and not even eat um.
We just moved our chicks to a new location too
Your coop gave me an idea. Of course it would mean a total reconstruction. Due to the size of pipe you use why not incorporate the feeder and waterer in the structure? Make half the waterer and the other half a feeder? Just an idea that I might be able to use in the future.
We made ours out of old trampoline frame works great but if I built another it'd be taller
That's a good coup
A red 150 ford ?
👍❤️
Nice F-150, ecoboost?
I have some hugh red rangers, but they're laying eggs now because my dad didn't want to take them out at the cut off date :[
At least they're living a good life tho :]
Since your driving a Gator the chickens want to drink Gatorade!
Stupid question we never actually caged our chickens only closed the coop at night. Totally Free range and only gave them some food with them getting most for themselves. It was mostly work free so why do it your way and get new chicken every year?
Nice little setup for your chicks. Does it hurt their legs when you pull it?
Looking good, Josh! You use screws to hold the lid shut? Really surprised a hot rodder like you hasn't made up a set of hood pins.
What top egg-laying bird do you recommend thank you 🇺🇸. Woooooo!!
Any issues with predators digging underneath the tractors?
no issues
They called them a bacca stick.
👍
Very cool Only thing is , is that when the bird gets bigger which would leave less room in Coop. And How old are the birds when its time to Slaughter ?? Thanks Stoney
Thanks or the info! Any reason you use tin for the roof instead of corrugated plastic sheets?
would you wanna stand all day under clear plastic sheets or in the shade...the silver metal reflects the heat back off the animals....we don't wanna cook them..they need the option of sun or shade my friend....sun on the edge...shade in the middle
Hey Man! No beans and wienies for me. :) Have you considered the used motor oil as wood preservative?
Did I hear you right? 50 birds go through 25 pounds of feed a DAY? So you go thru 3.5 50 lb bags a week? While on pasture? In my area right now that would cost almost $100 a week in feed. Is that normal that they have to eat so much while they're eating grass?!
what do you do about predators?
I like beans and weenies Josh! Question: does this mean your birds are considered "free range"?
Loving the channel! Question, got 20 Cornish cross last week. After a couple days, one bird had pasty butt. I removed the crust like you’ve shown and every day since that same bird had pasty butt. Is it normal fir it to be reoccurring?
Do you use medicated feed or any other kind of aid in preventing disease for the chicks? Corid or anything
You leave them in there all night and nothing digs under it?
How many do you put in a coop that big? And what were measurements again please
do you have any apple pie, if you know what I mean a friend of mine used to get it from Virginia, but he passed away in 2013 ,god bless
Question Josh; Are you going to start the chickens off where you left off last fall? Or are you going to enrich the same soil again this year as last?
very small acreage is what acreage?
how many acres is that field? (at the 3 minute mark)
Where do you buy mobile coop or get plans for building? Thank you.
Do you butcher them yourself?
Hey Josh thank you for the video I appreciate it and I have a question for you maybe you can answer it for me well I'm going to purchase a piece of property in about 1 or 2 years from now if everything goes well and I plan on having farm animals on my property but the question I have for you is could I let the animals eat whatever they find on the property like they would in the wild and including a horse to I want to have one of every animal I'm thinking about just that I watched your video not this one another one and you explain having farm animals is very expensive so that's why I just have a question for you like that there that I asked you
There's no way that raising chickens is cheaper than the grocery store.
yep...if you want cheap food and high medical bills later in life....keep up the grocery store factory farmed food my friend....it's not about being cheap...it's about being healthy and knowing what's in your food ....CHEAP FOOD IS THE DOWNFALL OF OUR NATION!!!!!
What about snakes getting under?
Are those ventrac stripes on your lawn 👍
Nice shirt
Beans and wieners for 6 months? Be able to power the $100 truck for a year, with the gas from that.
I really want to do meat birds this year. We aren’t knew to chickens but this would be a first for raising meat birds. I also was considering 50 birds but wondering if I should start with 25? Do you recommend 25 or 50 for this size tractor?
Do you leave them in there 24/7?
You don’t feed 12 hours on 12 hours off?
Could I put like 100 chickens in a 15x15
Not joking I got a 50x40 yard to
Millions of bugs to
Whose red f150 is that?
Hi josh just wondering how many cows will you start of with on an 400 acres of farm land and what hp tractor do you need
Figure 1-2 acres of land per cow (I prefer 2). If you have a 10 acre field, I'd keep around 5 cows.
SmokyMountainOutdoorsman. Cheers mate thanks for advice
Josh show how to raise dogs. New chanle
hi how are you I was asking did I win a shirt n hat, have u seen Bigfoot around ur land, please reply god bless
