I’m related. I grew up in Ky sitting on the porch in the evenings listening to the stories of old the old folks would tell, we loved Bad John Wright stories… Thank You so much.
Now this on hits home. My late husbands gpa would take horses from KY and sell them in other places. Tenn, w.V Carolina's and Texas. He'd be gone for months some said he had other wives. He would hop trains and come back with horses to where he was going. He slipped and fell and the train killed him. His name was William "Grant" Lee from Kentucky. I really enjoyed this video thank you
Again I was looking forward to you getting around to this story. My grandparents knew John Wright. He really thought he was every women’s dream of a man. He made a pass at my grandmother calling her the prettiest girl in the county. I do not know if she married or not when he made his pass. Love your stories, please keep up the great work.
Five wives? Where did he find the energy!!!??? It was all I could do, just keeping up with one wife, when I was married before. Very beautiful country, very interesting story. Perhaps one day, you will find his grave, and you may stumble across it, by dumb luck. Thank you very much, Leo and Heather, for another great story. 😊
Great video, beautiful scenery🤗 Although I was born and raised in Ohio I spent a lot of time in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland due to family visits and working in those States in the oil field. Every time I’m there I feel like I’ve been called home.
Ya know… I just watched another person who does the same thing you guys do.. he runs the Hatfield McCoy museum.. he sounds so sour.. feels like he is still pissed…and trying to prove a point…you guys just tell the facts plus you guys are so happy sounded all the time.. I can tell you guys are passionate about what you do..please keep up the good work.. you guys are great..love watching history unfold before my eyes.. thank you for what guys do…
@@FaithHope302 no kidding.. he sounds like he is so bitter… I tried to listen to another video and he went off again on a rant cause he said McCoys were mistreated so badly… wow it’s like he wants to start it up all over again.. if you’ve watched the Mini series ( and I’m betting you did ) he sounds just like old man McCoy himself.. bitter…
Another great video! The most famous court house shooting in Appalachia was probably the Carroll Co Shooting in 1912 which was the top national headline until the sinking of the Titanic. You are now getting close to where some of my Appalachian ancestors werre from. They lived in Dickenson, Wise, Scott, and Washington Co Va. My grandfather helped to build the John Flannagan dam in DIckenson Co.
I love you guys video's. Of the old west and how they survived and lived. Virginia and west Virginia is a very beautiful place. Like the hills here in TN. Thanks Leo and Heather for these great video's God bless and stay safe 💕
Great story. It's a shame that kudzu was allowed to take over his grave. Kudzu is awful hateful stuff. It'll swallow up anything. Very pretty scenery in this video. See you in the next one
Wow great story. Devil John Wright had a fulfilling life. Sounds like he lived a life with no regrets. It's great that he held his wives and children in high regard, providing for them all. God Bless sir.
Wow what a person. In these days it's becoming harder to find a man that will take care of just 1 wife and kids.. .but 5 wifes😮😮 well done sir you deserve to rest in peace. Great job you guys...that lake at the end was so beautiful!!!!
I just found your channel a few weeks ago. Love southern history just love history in general. You guys do a great job telling these stories. I look forward to your videos. Thanks
Sounds like John W. Wright was not all Devil as he took care of his wives, children, upheld the law, protected people, and turned to God. May he rest in heaven. Thank you for his history.
Heather and Leo, another very good video. I haven't seen a bad video from ya'll yet. I enjoy your subject line. The research you put into your stories and presentation lets your viewers actually "see" your stories unfold. Not to mention the beautiful scenery. Ya'll keep up the great work and I will anxiously look forward to your next video and a look back at history and the folks that made it. God bless ya'll and hope ya'll stay safe on your travels. By the way, I figured out why you couldn't find his grave, it wasn't raining !😊
I LIVE 10 MINUTES FROM CYNTHIANA MY KIDS WENT TO SCHOOL THERE. I'VE HEARD THE STORIES ABOUT THE BATTLE IN CYNTHIANA. MAYBE THEY HAVE MORE INFORMATION ON JOHN WESLEY WRIGHT. WRIGHTS ARE PART OF MY FAMILY. GREAT STORY THANKS
It is a great Video thank you for taking the time to make it. Two houses I will haft to check out we had a fire at our old house and looking to buy one. Another thing look at that water I bet there is some good fishing there as well
It is unbelievable that John had five wives. Was he Mormon? John looked to be "somewhat" handsome. You have visited a beautiful part of Virginia. What an interesting piece of history!!! Would love to read the book about John? I knew that I had heard of John Wright in that he changed sides during the Civil War during my research. Thank you for such an interesting story. Keep up your great work.
I love all your videos. I’ve always loved History. You both do a great job. And I love your laughter ❤️🙏. I have one question… Where does the name Anderson come from? I would guess it’s a family last name but I’ve done some genealogy research and could find anything. My maiden name is Anderson so I guess that’s where my curiosity stems from. Lol 😂. Keep up the great work. And always keep that laughter coming ❤
Y'all must spend a lot of time doing research for your videos. W.Va.& Eastern Va. both have some really nice scenery. So do Ky.& Tn. Here in Ga., the top 20% or so,also is quite lovely. I do not live very far from the beginning of the foothills of the Appalachian's. Hard to believe that they stretch all the way to New England. While there have been & are now, some lousy folks there, most folks living in App.are really great.
So the Coordinates on Find a Grave are incorrect, as well as the google map. It shows a cemetery in the woods about 100 yards off the road. It might be on private property. Love your videos. New subscriber. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I'm an amateur genealogist and own an Etsy shop. My family, both sides, come from Lawrence, Boyd, Pike County Kentucky. Also Mingo, Wayne W. Virginia and Buchanan and Scott County, Virginia.
That's so cool I'm actually related to him. But that's neat because I'm actually from colombus Ohio. And I live in Scott County now myself. And my father back in his days is actually from wise county all of his family. But what a coincidence that is.
I’m related. I grew up in Ky sitting on the porch in the evenings listening to the stories of old the old folks would tell, we loved Bad John Wright stories… Thank You so much.
We're probably related somehow then. Because I'm also kin to him

I came across the same person. I only watched a couple and I agree, not enjoyable at all.

@@GeorgeSmith-ze5vk I did watch it! lol And wow was it so far from the truth!
Cuz the family’s are still fighting to this day
This is my 2nd great Uncle. My dad talked about being so scared of him when he was around visiting.
I would love to have a portrait painted. Of that lake and that beautiful view. Thanks again ❤
Great story and well told. Ending showing the beautiful scenery was fitting to the man. More like these please. Love your history. Thanks for sharing.

Great story on John. I will say John sounds like he was full of energy and a very interesting man. Having all his wives and kids really kept him busy.

Love your channel always been intrigued by Southern history . As a New Englander it’s fascinating to me. Thanks
Me too. I grew up in N. England and now I live in Tn. It's a different kind of history and very interesting. More troublemakers for sure.

Hi Leo and Heather from Boone County WV 👋 I like watching your history videos 👍😎
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Another interesting piece of history, thank you. I am going to see if I can find one of the books for my son in law. He likes reading true history.
Wow this is truly interesting, he was my great, great grandfather and I didnt know half of this.
Awesome

He wasn't a Mormon. The wives did not live together. And I'm not sure if they even knew about each other. I am one of his descendants.
@@marywright8612 WOW! You certainly have a most unique and interesting group of ancestors,. Thank you for your response,.

Big Bad John? When I was young I remember hearing a song, according to the chorus, was called Big Bad John and the song was his story..

You guys should do a video of Annie Oakley *little miss sure shot* not far from KY. In Darke County Ohio.
What an awesome video!!!!
My grandma side of the family is related to him
Devil John Wright. Devil Anse. I wonder how bad a person must be to have devil as a nickname?
I wish I could add a picture. I have one of the same pictures you have
I'm actually related to him pretty cool

I’m a descendant of this man
awesome!
Wow, that is a lot kids. Glad it's not me. Lo
So I see his grave is noted here.
Thanks love the stories
With 30 kids and 5 wives, he must have living descendants now that might know where he's buried.
He’s buried at the John Wright Cemetery in Pound. He was my 1st cousin 4x removed. Through the Wrights side.
Multiple wives. That's enough to drive a sane man to killing.😂😂😂, always great info.
@Rock of ages USA I think so.
OK this has to be
How did he have time to be mean? He was busy making babies and fathering 30 children.
Why call him a Devil 👿 ?
Cause he could be mean?
Great story...seems all men are alike, not you Leo...😉
😂
