This song totally enhanced my introduction as a kid to Zeppelin. Song remains the same has an epic version of this song that inspired me to play guitar. I suck at it but nonetheless these guys totally took blues and rock...fused it together and created a super sound. Great song
I had the same feeling, that I'd never see Led Zeppelin live, but i've had the chance to buy a ticket for the O2-Arena concert, and flew from brazil all the way to london only to see them! But it's a shame that they didn't play the rain song that night
The first time I heard this I had just gotten off work from an oil changing place in 1998.A co- worker's brother had left this album in his car and he didn't like Zeppelin much so he gave it to me.I sort of liked Zep but not as much as I did after wearing that tape out in my old '86 T-Bird (my first car,my baby).I had listened to the first side of the album on the way home and just before I got on the bridge from Arkansas to Oklahoma in Ft. Smith and had just finished a joint and...
I think people discuss Page's tunings more than anything else about him. He's truly a master no matter what you think about him. Being able to play real fast and shredding or whatever doesn't make you great. It's what you compose, your feel, etc. that counts. Page never played stuff like Eddie Van Halen, but EVH never put out something like The Rain Song before. Not even close. Jimmy Page is the ultimate musician/guitar hero.
Honestly, this song really touches me. Its such a good song. Its better on the song remains the same movie, cuz of the parts they added with Robert Plant as the medieval knight kind of thing. Led Zeppelin is definetly the best rock n roll band of all time.
Nice catch. According to J.Page, it was always supposed to be played in A. He didn't realize it was in G on the album version until after it was pressed.
yeha, well consider yourself fortunate that you were around then to at least have the experience of Zeppelin as a current thing. Those of us born later (i am 19) dont even have memories. We have this sorta mythology of the band, and hopefully a tour that they may do next year or something. Still, when i hear this band at its best i think "Man, i will never really get to see them live..."
interesting to note is that in the live versions this was plaed in A, but here its in G. I have no idea why, because the open tuning is alot easier in G then it is in A
I get your point, but with eddie you picked one player who actually combines genius licks/riffs and can speed them up (Top Jimmy, Drop Dead Legs) But still, there is no doubt that Mister Page is the Master. This sends shivers down my back every. single. time. Now listen! ♫ I felt the coldness of my winter, I never thought, it would ever go... I cursed the gloom that set upon us but I know that I love you so ♫♫
What CD is the pic at 0:16 from? Did Jimmy ever realease an acoustic album? I know he worked with Fahey for awhile, but their stuff was never released. AND DOES ANYONE HAVE CD OF THEM AT EARL'S COURT 1975???

This song could be an hour long and still be too short!
Greatest Band Ever.
Still one of my favorites! Live on Led Zeppelin in 2023! 😊
The depth of their music speaks out in this song.. Listen to the guitar
work ... orchestrated to excellence!
....I started to see little rain drops on the window,at the same time this song came on.I'll never forget that day.I was hooked!
It's weird how this is kind of one of those songs that need to sink in before you like it. Then it is amazing. I agree with you.
I've always loved this song from when i heard it on The Song Remains The Same.great dvd...soooo beautiful...
now this is a song that takes me back to very good memories, it is one of my all time favorites, thank you for putting this on youtube.

I love this song.Led zeppelin rules!
Simply awesome.
they need to put more zeppelin songs in movies. this one especially.
1 word - majestic

This gets better every time you hear it.

you know that does make me feel greatfull
this is such an underated song
I miss this band sooo much... i cried when i heard Bonzo died and the band had broken up
i love this song...
Nice catch. According to J.Page, it was always supposed to be played in A. He didn't realize it was in G on the album version until after it was pressed.
im an avid led zep fan but this is the first time i've heard this song its so fucking beautiful
i wish i coulda been alive when led zeppelin was alive and popular
thanks a lot!
While Stairway to Heaven is a wonderful song, The Rain Song is near perfection especially from the viewpoint of an acoustic guitar player.
wow, its bringing me back to highschool
my led Zeppelin no one will ever come close to you.

One of the best love songs ever - you can get laid, get married and get buried all with the same song playing ;)

♫ I felt the coldness of my winter, I never thought, it would ever go...
I cursed the gloom that set upon us
but I know
that I love you so ♫♫
it's a very simple song, you just have to tune the guitar (from first to 6th string) d, c, G, D, F, D and you can find the tabs everywhere.
That video discription is sooo true..
Actually the correct studio cut tuning from low to high is D-G-C-G-C-D (Gsus4).
no doubt, i totally agree
@_@
masterpiece
I have a dvd of the whole performance.
1:39 JP wearing Jack Nicholson's Joker trousers.
I actually love the song since I first heard it
But that was the unplugged version and not the studio one (who is awesome too).
What CD is the pic at 0:16 from? Did Jimmy ever realease an acoustic album? I know he worked with Fahey for awhile, but their stuff was never released. AND DOES ANYONE HAVE CD OF THEM AT EARL'S COURT 1975???
Only a genius would come up with those chords no matter what the tuning.
this ^ is just so damn true
Indeed.
The Rain song vs. Stairway to Heaven. Which is better? I can't decide, maybe stairway to heaven...
Actually, they are still alive and popular, but I know what you mean.
not long enough''
EADADE, I believe.
they would but Zeppelin don't let them.Jack Black had to plead with them to let him use the immigrant song in School Of Rock.
really? i thought it was a 6 string and i dont see using the 12 string at any time during the song
unfortuntely, it's no body's fault but his own that he died of drinking
EADADe, that should be.
that description is really bogus. Its like...they forced themselves to like this song. Anybody agree??
*the next comment is the end of the comment after it :]
yep, wrote wrong, you're right
You're wrong!
your comment is just completely pointless so why dont you send something usefull or go and comment on a different video
lol get over it....
