    I'd say, if you can afford the Field, then definitely get that over the OP-1. There will be a point where the lo-fi, horrible noise floor of the OG will limit your production as you get better with it (at least that's what happened for me). As I got better at production, it felt like it was a real limitation. The 32bit signal chain of the Field will mean it's finally able to make proper studio quality files. For me that raises it to the next level

    i think the used market for the op-1 is a bit overstated… i don’t think there are a ton of people rushing to sell their v1s. price of the v2 is a definite point of contention for existing v1 owners and i don’t think a bunch of v1 folks are rushing out to buy the v2. its possibly on the horizon though. i bought one (hasn’t shipped yet) but even still i’m in no hurry to offload my v1. i love my v1 op-1 and always will… a desert island machine. ideas are priceless and worthless and a machine with immediacy and convenience to quickly experience the difference is very valuable imo :)

    No one makes videos about the defective OP-1 units TE sold. I am the owner of one. It’s was ok for the first couple years but it had its quirks like not wanting to hold a charge. Then after a TE firmware update, it no longer would connect to any other device. Essentially it broke the usb connectivity. Sent it to a TE repair center and they determined it was a faulty board. But they wouldn’t repair it because the warranty expired. Even though it was their update and faulty board that was the cause. It left me feeling quite bitter and I will never buy another one of their products again because they don’t stand behind their hardware. Which is disappointing because I thought that is the whole point of buying from and supporting a boutique manufacturer.

    • @SoloRay
      @SoloRay  2 года назад

      I had one of those units as well. Super frustrating. I ended up replacing the board myself which was actually super easy, but the parts are very hard to get a hold of and sell out very quickly. This was a few years ago so I’d imagine it’s tougher now? But yeah I wouldn’t say their customer service is nearly as good as larger companies like Moog or Sequential.

    Nice vid! The appearance of the Field makes me want to push my OG OP-1 more. There are creative ways to get a stereo mix for all synths on the OG- just hard pan L and R tracks 1 and 2 and record slightly differently modulated sequences of the same preset (or wildly different) onto each. The only thing I dislike is the aliasing on a lot of synths, and the field gets rid of that I think. But for heavily sample-based tracks- OG OP-1 can manage just fine.

    • @SoloRay
      @SoloRay  2 года назад

      Do you mean export individual tracks but with the mix bus processing? Sort of. You can always solo the tracks one by one and print things that way. There are only four tracks so it’s not that time consuming. Part of the reason the mix bus effects are cool is how things interact together. Like with the compressor or the filter or something, it wouldn’t sound exactly the same if printed separately and added back together later. Different flavors for different needs!

I remember all the other youtube channels selling me on the OP-1 BUT this new OP-1 is just SO much better lol I'm kidding. The OP-1 is good enough. The unfortunate side is most these cats are not being truly real with you. I was actually looking for this kind a review, because I really want an OP-1 for a while, but it was too pricey. Now I can find a lot of them used for half the price... But why ? It was hard to get it for hundred bucks less used than new some month ago !
    It so stange that it made me think, maybe I need an OP-1F because the OP-1 is garbage ? ^^ But I don't even have the money for a classic OP-1 ! hahaha
    But what sold me the OP-1 is because I have a very good sampler, I just want synth engine.
    The mother reverb sounds amazing where the OP-1 classic have a very bad reverb for what I do (mostly ambiant stuff)
    The projects thing was what I was waiting for the OP-1 to drop my money... but, not that kind of money ^^
    Of course, if I fall in love with my OP-1, I may want to upgrade to an OP-1F someday, but I can sell some gear for something I know to be good for my workflow and creativity, not just to try something that cost more than a full month of hard work and see if it workd for me.
    So thanks, I too, think it's a really good time to finally buy an OP-1 ;)

  • @kentuckyfriedcaleb

    Sorry for the word vomit:
    Been eyeballing the OP-1 for YEARS. Bought an OP-Z a couple years ago as a compromise to the price and haven't regretted it at all (except for the normal complaints of bending and double trigs). Of course, I would abso-fuckin-lutely buy an OP-Z Field. Anyways, I think it's kinda lame that it says OP-1.5 on the bottom of it when the young TE rep at Superbooth said, "This is the next 10 years of OP-1." I kinda don't buy it, but who knows?
    That being said, I ordered one. The costs of either of them new is hilarious, so I figured I might as well splurge because I'm bein boujie and always wanted one. $175 a paycheck over the next 6 months on paypal credit (interest free) vs $125 for the OG. I'm wondering if a granulator effect would help justify the cost in some people's minds, or if what they plan on adding would eventually make people say, "Ohhhh okay."
    For example: I got an MPC Touch around the time the original MPC Live came out (2017). My rationale when comparing them was, "Why would I pay almost twice as much for way less functionality sacrificed for portability?" Then over time they released firmware updates. HUGE updates that eventually sold me on it when the Live II rumors started in the FB groups.
    Even though it didn't work out for me last time, people should definitely buy things for what they are and not what they hope to be. Though more and more companies seem to be doing this. Releasing products without their full capabilities and trickling them out in firmware updates as a continuous promotion campaign. So, what I'm saying is TE already knows what's going to be released on most of the future firmware updates, and I'm just hoping they make it 1.5x better than the original. I'm gonna call it the OP-1.5 from now on, regardless.

      @@Leviathan-mj8gi limits require creativity to work around them. A less is more deal. The op-z is an incredibly creative portable tool, so is the OP-1F and the value is there for me. If it’s not for you, that’s understandable. Have you ever messed with a Touch? It controls the same software as the Live/X/One, it just requires a computer and a wall wart, but the computer can make it more powerful than any of the other units in standalone. Strictly speaking in the box of course, not for someone with lots of external gear. I sold my Touch to get a Live II for portability and external gear integration.
