BlameSociety. To be clear, I’m not confused about the concept of October holidays, I’m guessing the movie called “Halloween”. Starring William Shatner, kind of.
If Matt and Craig want a good Halloween-adjacent movie with a heroic black cat, I suggest Kiki’s Delivery Service by those talented folks at Studio Ghibli. Jiji is loyal, cute as a button, and very snarky. (I have a plush of him sitting next to me we speak.) Also, my sister’s cat is also named Sadie, but she’s a Siamese.
Suggestion for Seen it: The slasher horror parody Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. I think it's one of the best spoofs of classic horror movie tropes out there! Also, Sadie's so cute with her silver temples that only shows when she turns her head.
If you wanna talk about non-traditional horror, then talk about "No Country for Old Men". The character Anton Chigurh is scarier than any movie monster from the last 20 years. Seriously. As always, love the show. You guys are great.
I saw this movie on a forty foot screen and Boris Karloff's face wasn't especially scary. I saw it as double feature with the Wolfman. And you know how scary that is.
Ahhhh, oh Yeaaaah! New black kitty, and one of my favourite movies! Good job on adopting another little black munchkin from the shelter! Our little Misty is also a black rescue cat!
I recently saw Trainspotting and T2 Trainspotting for the first time and I loved both. I'm currently halfway Irvine Welsh's novel Trainspotting. It really captures the Scottish dialect and attitude towards life.
I feel like The World's End was very boring and surface level in regards to men not growing up and that T2 Trainspotting did a much better job of conveying that immaturity towards seriousness. T2 Trainspotting is probably the best film of 2017 other than IT.
Good episode guys! I've been wanting to watch the Hammer horror films with the fiance for a while, I'm sure we'll get around to it. Also congratulations Craig! May little Craig have a great imagination and many adventures!
Have you guys seen The Secret of NIMH? I didn't appreciate it much as a kid due to how dark it was, but I like it a lot more as an adult and it became my favorite Don Bluth film.
Have you seen Babette's Feast (1987)? It has a little bit of everything: it's a refugee story, a romance story, a food story, and so much more. It has what I think is the best dinner scene ever put to film. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out.
Seems hard to believe that black cats are the hardest to get adopted in this day and age. It feels like half the people I know and EVERYONE on the internet is trying to prove that they are interesting by "liking" anything they think that others don't. Favorite number: 13 (or 666!) etc. I'd expect black cats to fly off the shelves to a bunch of wannabee "witches" and "warlocks". 🤷♂️
"In Bruges". Seen it? When Mad Eye Moody jumps off the bell tower, it gets me every time. Or "The Baker" starring ...the guy from Band of Brothers and Jamie Lannister
The Lord of the Rings movies, particularly the first, can be seen as a horror movie if you ask me. Like most horror movies it opens (after the voice over history lesson) with nice normal people comfortable in their quaint lives before they have a run in with evil and they're catapulted into a world of terror. You could pick just about any orc (any orc used for a close up I mean) and make that the sole monster in a horror movie and it would work, everything surrounding them is like what you would see in a horror movie, right down to their clothes. Golum as a character seems like he was pulled out of a horror movie, his mind and body have literally been twisted by this malignant force to grotesque results, he's sympathetic and revolting all at once and that's exactly what you would want in a character like his in a good horror movie. Then you have how it's shot, it's hard to describe but if you watch them again with that in mind I think you'll notice it, the angles Peter Jackson uses, the sound design, it's all very creepy and gets under your skin like in a horror movie. There are a half a dozen other things I didn't talk about just to keep this a readable length, the army of the dead, the mines of Moria, etc, but trust me, the next time you watch those movies pay attention and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Have you ever seen the original Godzilla film from 1954? If you have seen it, what do you think about it? What do you think about other films in the franchise if you have seen them already?
Have you guy's seen Gaspar Noe's "ENTER THE VOID" from 2010? It's a psychedelic existential journey all filmed entirely in one seamless shot from the protagonist's perspective. Have fun and good luck!
Seen It: Have you seen Brick? It's the debut movie of The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. It has some of my favorite dialogue ever, and it's an inspired twist on the film noir genre. Plus, young JGL kills it in his lead role.
I saw this movie not that long ago and loved it. All of the teenagers in it talk like characters from a Noir film and it works. I could totally imagine a High School somewhere where they use that kind of slang. I have nothing but good things to say about Brick.
It looks like the end of the year is quickly approaching, and I just saw this movie a few months ago and loved it, so I'm curious: what don't you like about The Wizard of Oz?
Nothing to do with Halloween, but if you have not already seen it, I suggest 1983’s Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. With an East v. West culture clash so pronounced that its performances deliberately reflect it, what reads on paper like a queer variation on The Bridge on the River Kwai becomes much more; as we gain insight into these characters, MCML congeals into a study of nothing less than masculinity itself. I probably like it more than most, but it is recommendable on some significant factors alone, among them: one of Bowie’s best performances; the start of YMO star Sakamoto’s second career as a film composer; and the first dramatic role by Japanese comedian “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, who would go on to -become the greatest yakuza director not named Kinji Fukasaku- ruin Zatoichi for Matt Sloan. That last bit may undermine the film, though, as Sloan might find sadistic satisfaction in the film’s most heart-wrenching scene. P.S. Sorry, Craig, but I can’t satiate that side of you yet; I’ve been shopping around that screenplay where Ethan Hawke and Shia LaBeouf get treated like Lars von Trier heroines, but no one’s returned my calls.
Did these mutants live in a cave?did they not have friday night creature features in thier village ?was halloween outlawed?Who did they think was chasin Scooby doo?
I surprised how little famous mummy movie iconography is in this film. Is there another famous old black and white mummy movie that has more of those iconic old clips of a mummy stalking people? Like what Craig described before they watched it. Or is this it and we've only over assumed the iconography of it as the decades have gone by?
Seen it: Salt and Fire Directed by Werner Herzog and starring hall of famer Micheal Shannon. I appreciate Herzog's comment on the battle between nature and man's endeavors, and the hopeful future marriage of two, but the awkward and stilled acting all around in this film left me unable to appreciate the piece beyond it.
I imagine the old Universal monster movies were scarier back when they were originally released. We're a bit more desensitized to scary things these days.
My father has a set of "Monster Cards " from the 50's or early 60's ! Was wondering if you guys knew anything about them ?? Oh BTW Congrats on your adoption !!
What do you think our movie for Halloween will be? Leave a comment and let us know.
BlameSociety. Halloween?
BlameSociety. To be clear, I’m not confused about the concept of October holidays, I’m guessing the movie called “Halloween”. Starring William Shatner, kind of.
BlameSociety Halloween 3
Maybe you'll do your first ever animated horror film? One of the Laika films perhaps? Or possibly even some weird, Junji Ito inspired anime?
BlameSociety Monster Squad?
The Universal Horror movies aren't scary but they are iconic. I do believe everyone should check them out. Just don't expect to be scared.
I'm not surprised that this one wasn't scary, but even before this Basement episode, I wanted to see The Mummy just for aesthetic appreciation.
That was the best ending to an episode I have ever seen. Y'all are blessed with such cuties
That movie is way better than whatever our basement Siskel & Ebert felt about it.
I really hoped they'd be watching the one with Brendan Fraser.
"They posed him like a rapper."
Don't you mean they posed him like a *wrapper* ?
Har har har
Well played
Hats off good sir
You're a dead man
83croissant I'm truly scared. I'll go crying to my *mummy*
"I want to get freaky with a dusty daddy."
Sam Dolan I fucking died at that part
Sadie is so cute! I grew up with black cats so I'm biased to their spooky adorableness,
Me too! My mother is convinced that black male cats are the best, sweetest, smartest cats.
If Matt and Craig want a good Halloween-adjacent movie with a heroic black cat, I suggest Kiki’s Delivery Service by those talented folks at Studio Ghibli. Jiji is loyal, cute as a button, and very snarky. (I have a plush of him sitting next to me we speak.)
Also, my sister’s cat is also named Sadie, but she’s a Siamese.
MarianneBrandon how do black female cats stack up?
Thank u guys! You helped me through a very hard time in my life. Can’t send enough love to the basement.
Stilll in season 3 but for scene it, Baby Driver it’s overindulgent but still a lot of fun if you like Edgar Wright
"I could look at a mummy all day!" Best quote ever.
Suggestion for Seen it: The slasher horror parody Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. I think it's one of the best spoofs of classic horror movie tropes out there!
Also, Sadie's so cute with her silver temples that only shows when she turns her head.
CRAIGS BABY IS SO DANG CUUUUUUUUTTTTEEEE!!!!!!!
I agree the mummy is not on screen enough.
Ah I was hoping this would be the Hammer version
You guys should check out Hammer's The Mummy (1959).
AKA the best Mummy.
Excellent idea.
Best show on RUclips. Seen it list, my four favourite movies: Cactus Flower, The Birdcage, To Wong Foo, and Grumpy Old Men
If you wanna talk about non-traditional horror, then talk about "No Country for Old Men". The character Anton Chigurh is scarier than any movie monster from the last 20 years. Seriously.
As always, love the show. You guys are great.
Welcome to the family, Sadie! What a cutie.
Omigosh, and baby footage! Best episode ever!
Seen it: train to busan! One of the beast zombie movies I've seen in years
What an appropriate day to introduce Sadie! Don't let her walk under any ladders!
Two black cats? Matt, are you secretly a witch?
Baby!!! I really never thought I would see baby footage on this show. But I'm definitely not complaining.
Honestly, when we started, I never thought to see it either.
Welcome Sadie! :3
when you think about it though
given the timeline
it's rappers who pose as the mummy
(that shot was surprisingly rad)
This episode introduced Sadie who is very cute, and showed a clip of Craig's kid who is somehow even cuter.
Have you seen "mother!"? I would love to hear your thoughts about the film!
Great episode guys! :)
Congratulations on the new kitten!
in before that cat wrecks the basement set.
I recently saw Trainspotting and T2 Trainspotting for the first time and I loved both. I'm currently halfway Irvine Welsh's novel Trainspotting. It really captures the Scottish dialect and attitude towards life.

Holy shit! You actually read my question! I forgot I even wrote it. Thanks guys!
Have you guys seen The Secret of NIMH?
I didn't appreciate it much as a kid due to how dark it was, but I like it a lot more as an adult and it became my favorite Don Bluth film.
I liked it along with The Neverending Story because they WERE dark.
Have you seen Babette's Feast (1987)? It has a little bit of everything: it's a refugee story, a romance story, a food story, and so much more. It has what I think is the best dinner scene ever put to film. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out.

that ernesto end clip was awesome xD
Do I see Powerslave by Iron Maiden in the background, or have my eyes deceived me?
Stephen The Heathen And what an album it is!
Damn right, brother! One of the best!
Have you guys seen Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop? I don’t watch too many documentaries, but if you’re even a little bit of a fan of his, you’ll love it.
Seen it: "Elvis & Nixon"
I've been trying to get a hold of this paticular Shandango for a while now. Perhaps his most peculiar casting yet...
"In Bruges". Seen it? When Mad Eye Moody jumps off the bell tower, it gets me every time. Or "The Baker" starring ...the guy from Band of Brothers and Jamie Lannister
In Bruges is insanely hilarious
Matt's laugh at 15:22

Hm, never thought of it that way. Good observation!
It's because the author is Russian, Russia is a horror movie.
Alexander Forbes those creepy things on horseback as Frodo and his buddies hid under the tree roots.
J.R.R. Tolkien was British.
Love the record over Craig’s shoulder. Powerslave baby!
I really thought we would be seeing some Brendan Frasier when I saw the title.
I was hoping to see the Brendan Frasier Mummy. The sequel was the first DVD my family ever purchased so it got a lot of viewings.
Have you ever seen the original Godzilla film from 1954? If you have seen it, what do you think about it? What do you think about other films in the franchise if you have seen them already?

Neat!
Have you guys seen hesher?? That would be a good watch
Hocus Pocus! Thats a movie that could get torn apart
Aw. A Basement Cat for Welcome to the Basement. Sadie is a cutie. Love the Kaufman theory. Would have been awesome. Also, good movie choice.
Seen It: Have you seen Brick? It's the debut movie of The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. It has some of my favorite dialogue ever, and it's an inspired twist on the film noir genre. Plus, young JGL kills it in his lead role.

Love Matt's shirt.
Matt wore a shirt!! Auugh!
4:39 - Matt creates the chorus to gucci gang weeks before the song's release - coincidence? I think not.
I found my little Nikki (female black cat) on the back tire of my car last july...It was lucky that I saw her before I got on the car and drove away.
The Mummy ends with Deus ex machina literally?
Happy Friday the 13th!
WHAO Sick shirt Matt!(0:00) Seriously what is it because I want one as well. :P
Have you seen Nil By Mouth?
Such a sad movie but brilliantly acted
Yesss. Powerslave record in the Back. Up the Irons 😀.
Welcome Sadie !!! yup..most mummies are wrappers(rappers) hahahha
Matt, when you get into the museum, are mummys like paintings? Do you just wanna touch 'em??
You know me too well
If you wanted more Mummy, I'm pretty sure that the Hammer Studios remake with Christopher Lee can deliver on that. Or so I've heard
Tell me why I have to be your power slave! \m/,
"had to. science, you know."

Non-traditional horror: Rubber. Seen it?
18:08 Missed opportunity for Matt to yell “SHOW ME THE MUMMY!” 😄
Sadie The Cleaning Lady is Australia’s other national anthem.
Since it's Halloween have you guys seen Henri Clouzots 1955 Diabolic ??
Did these mutants live in a cave?did they not have friday night creature features in thier village ?was halloween outlawed?Who did they think was chasin Scooby doo?
You guys should watch Hell in the Pacific (1968). It stars Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune. I think you two would like it
I surprised how little famous mummy movie iconography is in this film. Is there another famous old black and white mummy movie that has more of those iconic old clips of a mummy stalking people? A very creepy film that does suspense well is "Watcher in the Woods" have you seen it.
SADIEEEEE!!!!
this better be the brandon frasier mummy
Nooooope...
ohhhhhhhhhhh man
At least it's not the Tom Cruise Mummy.
i call that one the edgy mummy
Mummy on the Edge of Tomorrow: Live... Die... Live Again... Die... Repeat
Have you ever seen "Drive" what do you think of the almost mute main character
up the irons
Whose spawn was that at the end? It looked more like Matt than Craig, but I suppose that's true of all babies.
have you seen mr vampire 1985?
Eating saltpeter makes me imhotep.
Seen it: Salt and Fire

Oh, shit. The mummy's after us. Better walk a little faster.
You should definitely do Jason X.
How long until we find out Sadie’s true gender?
Ha ha. She was already spayed when she came to us, so no future surprises.
Greetings to Sadie :-)
I imagine the old Universal monster movies were scarier back when they were originally released. We're a bit more desensitized to scary things these days.
I hear that
Did not receive email notification for this one. Another one of those problems YT seems to be having.
HI SADIE!!!
SADIE
Could you do Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde 1932 or Phantasam for next Halloween ?
I would like to get your guys take on a little movie called 'Gymkata'.
This is weird, I just watched The Mummy. And hello Sadie.
Halloween 1978 should be the Movie for Halloween.
Okay, won't do drugs.
Our job here is done.
My father has a set of "Monster Cards " from the 50's or early 60's ! Was wondering if you guys knew anything about them ?? Oh BTW Congrats on your adoption !!
