I cried when I watched Thomas thanking you for the funds. The pain a child or grandchild can inflict is worse than any other pain one can have to endure. As a qualified yachmaster, may I add the following observations.
The captain is responsible for monitoring the weather, especially closely in potentially stormy weather. This level of weather would have been well warned and followed on radar. Under such circumstances the captains job would be to secure all hatches and fittings, prepare the staff and visitors, if required, move the yacht to a more protected area. Serious squalls are not uncommon, but specific actions are always taken to minimize problems.
From the current information on this tragedy there can be only two possible conclusions. 1) beyond serious negligence of the captain, or 2) intentional sabotage.
I find it extremely baffling. Obviously onboard communications were shut down if the ligths went out, but why were so many guests left in the stateroom, instead of a crew member who knew his/her way around the yacht rush down and tell them to get to the surface? An experienced captain rushed to save his own life. Maybe the person on watch was inexperienced and maybe the captain was sleeping when it happened, and of course he knew he had to get on deck, but then again, the weather warning had come in much earlier, and he did nothing to try and secure the yacht by turning it, or to tell his guests what to do
On a yt item yesterday of an experienced big vessel captain..I saw the satelite coordination of the yacht in question..it seems to be on drift after ankering.. the last tracks..so off anker alledgedly.

Aswell I noticed on all available footage of the yeach sailing.. the was no visable dinky attached to the ship.
The dinky that took the in sea floating survivors in were taken on board of the other nearby boats' dinky.
in that same item you saw how a water wind tornado in an other event at a marina on camera at night..yhat freak weather event just popped up..fliped over a lange catamaran and super yacht with lange mast..like empty cups..in nano seconds.
So it is possible.
With a bad captain it does not help prevent what might have been able to prevent what was preventable.
Should the guests not have been put on land if such a bad storm was approaching? 🤔
Intentional sabotage; the codefendent in the multimillion ruse was run over and killed the day before - too much of a coincidence.
Such a tragedy, CCTV cameras seem to show in a very poor image the mast initially snap with a flash roughly in the the middle and the top part falls into the water, the boat is badly tossed, when perhaps many may have fallen overboard, there is a second large flash and it looks like the mast has been pulled from its base in the centre of the yacht. Apparently a fallen mast and all the rigging can very easily damage the hull of a boat and if the base of the mast breaks away this can also cause serious damage and holes to the central body and keel of the yacht going down to its very base. The event happens incredible quickly with the fallen mast quickly sinking and pulling the boat onto its side and then the yacht getting pulled under very rapidly in 'boiling' water. It must have been chaos. It looks like most of the errors happened before the strike. Most of the fishermen knew storms were coming and did not go out, it's puzzling why the yacht was moored outside of the harbour or why it didn't move into the harbour at an earlier stage. It's possible was it very hot and humid before the storm, some guests slept on the deck which saved their lives, did the humidity cause the guest to open hatches and windows just to get some sleep? Was there a cooling breeze outside the harbour. There seems to be a 10 minute window before the strike that needs explanation. The strike itself was so quick it's incredible so many survived. Such a tragedy, a seemingly random strike of nature or did the high aluminum mast trigger events in the sudden electric storms strike and also incredible 'fluke' that the co defendant was killed the same day, struck by a car while jogging. Very very sad. Try to live each day as your best day is perhaps the immediate message..

Having owned a yacht, I can say the margin for error in a myriad of circumstances is quite slim. One must plan with the greatest of critical thinking skills, care and redundancy. For a yacht of that size, one would have a very experienced captain and crew. It follows that a 22 year old crew would not be experienced. A waterspout or downblast is a freak occurrence. Perhaps the keel could not deploy for any number of reasons. I hope the investigation will provide answers, so that others may learn from it. RIP to the souls who left us.

Reports said the keel wasn’t completely down, which would have righted the ship. I lived on a 42’ boat in the Caribbean, and somebody was always on night duty. We always had the radio on for weather emergencies. I was shocked that this storm caught this ship the way it did, others in the anchorage were fully aware of the impending bad weather. These mistakes would be made by a novice in a 21’ boat, not a super yacht!
Plus the technology ibehind some high end vessels varies a lot. In some cases open latches have countermeassures to avoid it's impact, and sinking.

It’s best not to guess, just wait for the maritime investigation. None of us knows at this point.

I'm sure there was an element of 'this yacht is unsinkable' attitude. Arrogance is often a big player in tragic accidents.
We remember one just last year. The voyage to the Titanic, the perfect ship for the voyage, and the heartbreaking loss in both cases.

I have a great deal of empathy for Mr. Markle. I have a daughter who did this to my husband and me and even ramped up her efforts at the end of 2023 after the deaths of 2 of my children (Caitlin 2/2023 and Jereny 11/2023), her siblings. The heart can and does carry a great deal of weight but the combination of immense loss and even bigger betrayal in a timespan as small as a 9 month window is almost more than one can bear. When you are already disabled neurologically so that speaking, moving, even thinking are already a challenge, the mind and heart simply give up. At least mine has. I am thankful Mr. Markle has such an amazing family to support him in this time. I have every belief he will be victorious in this situation!
The tragedy of loss of life can create a wonderful breeding ground for many different theories but nothing changes the fact that innocent lives were lost. My sympathies to the families and friends of all who perished. May we all allow them to truly Rest In Peace.

I’ve been at sea during a horrific hurricane and waterspout - it’s terrifying. We were crossing the Atlantic and were 2 1/2 days out from Southampton (en route to NY) so pretty much in the middle of the Atlantic. The Atlantic crossing is a rough one on a good day but this was indescribable. I was aboard the TS Bremen - the German flagship and thanks to a skilled crew, we made it without any injuries (or worse). We were ordered to wear our lifejackets at all times, the power was cut to help with visibility and if you left your cabin (not advised), there were ropes and sick bags everywhere. The kitchen was closed (no one was eating anyway!) and we were told if we were hungry, we could go to the galley and help ourselves - all the cooks were sick. I was with my grandmother and she was a hearty sailor and I remember seeing the shiny stainless steel galley - it took my breath away. The captain of the ship managed to steer us out of the worst of the hurricane and avoided the various waterspouts that sprang up because of the weather. It was wild - and terrifying. We arrived in NY 3 days later, a bit worse for wear. I know how terrifying it is to be at sea during a violent storm - to see the entire bow underwater is beyond terrifying - you realise the power of Mother Nature. My heart goes out to those who lost their lives on the Bayesian - and I hope those who survived will be able to get past this horrific trauma. Such a tragedy.

I worked in the Hollywood film/TV industry and I never heard of relatives of an alleged 'celebrity' ask for money from the public. Hmmmm... Meghan's relatives don't seem to act like better people. I am baffled by the lack of cautionary measures from the crew. As a guest on a large private yacht twice in my life, it is difficult for me to fathom all of this. I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks sailing with a French crew in the Leeward Islands in my mid thirties, and 3 weeks sailing off the coast of Venezuela near St.Marguarite when I was 50 years old. After receiving a clear marine report from the coast of Venezuela, three yachts traveled together for an overnight excursion to a deserted island one gorgeous morning. A crazy squall that seemingly came out of nowhere resulted in 12 foot waves for about 3 hours, at which point I was on deck hanging on for dear life bc I felt too sick to stay below. (true story). An unhappy experience to be sure, but all the guests on all 3 yachts wore life jackets...no exceptions. And the additional precautions taken by the crew was exceptional. I think there has to be more to this story quite honestly.

I think modern yacht chartering has some questions to answer. Even before this tragic episode, I've heard stories about short turn arounds taking precedence over maintenance. Catering and stock taking precedence over crew rest between charters(crews work their socks off). Decisions to face poor weather conditions in order to meet delivery over safety. Hopefully, the investigation will highlight the contributing factors in this tragic case and pressure will bring about a tightening up of how charters are run.
