The lyrics “just paper straws wrapped in plastic”. I’m trying to understand what that means or if it’s literal. Can someone help me out?
In my opinion it has a literal meaning and one that's up for interpretation. They literally switched to paper straws to help the environment, but they're still being wrapped/ shipped in plastic (bags or such) so it essentially didn't help the root of the cause. For the other meaning I feel that he's getting at how we congratulate ourselves for the so called "activism" we achieve[d], but it does/did nothing but change the problem or push it away. That goes not only with the plastic straws issue, but other issues we feel activism helped. That's how I see that line in the song
