    Verse: Rom 10:17
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Words about Christ.
This is not only an indicative but a commission given by God to the church that the gospel
    1. The means of imparting faith to the sinner
    - It is the Word of God
    - No one can be saved apart from the gospel.
    - 1 Thess 2:13, 2 Tim 3:15
    - Faith is aroused hearing, you either believe or disbelieve it.
    - Growing in faith is impossible apart from the Word.
    - ...by the Word about Christ - Objective Genitive (A.T. Robinson)

It is one thing to intellectually agree that you are a sinner and God can save you, it is another to be convicted and say in your heart that "I am a sinner, and I surrender myself entirely, abandoning all self-trust, to Christ's accomplishment of His redeeming work, life, death, & resurrection."
    - We must be confident in preaching the gospel
    - Heb 4:12, 1 Thess 1:5-6, James 1:21, Acts 16:14
    - Preachers, our confidence is not in the loud shouts but in the
    - The greatest power in the universe accompanies our gospel proclamation and He softens even hard hearts. It is the power of the Holy Spirit.
    2. The necessity of preaching the gospel to the sinner
    - Since the word of gospel is God's means of imparting faith, it must be proclaimed.
    - The word of God preached faithfully is God's ordinary means of imparting faith (Acts 8:30-31, 24:45-47)
    - Eph 4:11-13 - God has ordained that His Word must be delivered.
    - Personal evangelism is important, but the Scripture speaks of an oral proclamation
    - When the church is gathered together, preaching of the Word is most need.
    - God can save mysteriously apart from the gospel but He has ordained that salvation is by faith and faith comes by hearing the Word about Christ.
    - God's ordinary appointed means of salvation is the gospel (2 Tim 4:2, 1 Cor 1:21)
    - We must continue to preach the Word of God (1 Pe 1:24-25)
    - In God's Word is the hope of unity.
    - We must continue to hold God's Word reverently.
    Challenge:
    - What is your response to this good news?
    - If you reject this good news, it is all on you. It's nobody's fault but yours.
