I love their dueling sibling dynamic. Shadow doesn’t care for Sonic much and thinks he is highly irresponsible, and once he fails to best him by taking the tech, he begrudgingly accepts that he needs his help to get Green Hill back. Sonic is immature and cocky and just enjoys antagonizing Shadow and teases him like a little brother, but does consider him a friend.
I was SO SHOCKED when I saw the "I heart you too, Shadow" clip for the first time - I was SO SURE that it was a fake dub... BUT IT WASN'T!!! 🤩 And even though people tried to deny it as "I heard you too, Shadow" it was FURTHER PROVED by NETFLIX SUBTITLES THAT IT WAS ACCURATE DIALOGUE 🤣 And then OF COURSE we see Sonic making the "heart" with his hands, so again... IT CAN'T BE DENIED THIS SCENE ACTUALLY HAPPENED WHOOO!!!!!! 🥰 Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING SO!!!!! I just realized something now that season 3 is out: Shadow paid Sonic back IN FULL for saving his life in season 2! And while I get that a debt being repaid wasn’t his reasoning- it’s a pretty perfect parallel when you think about it!
Like Sonic says, Shadow is indebted to him "forever". It's a way for him to have Shadow for himself, so he could spend time with him and achieve all of his biggest dreams. Even Shadow had some intentions with Sonic. That's why he asks him to be "indebted" to him forever as well, so he will never be alone and live a happy and peaceful life with Sonic. In the end, they're married. 🤭

If you compare Sonic's relationships with Amy and Shadow, there are differences. Sonic states that Amy likes him, while he clearly loves Shadow. By the way, neither Sonic describes Shadow as his friend like he does with Amy, Tails and Knuckles, nor consider him a foe anymore. They are literally lovers to me.
