I don’t care if it’s too whimsical and romantic, I want to rise up now and go there myself right this minute

Thanks Gavin!!!😆❤️
John Ford in his film The Quiet Man sends up this poem and the ideas behind it. An American decides to quit the rat race of fighting( he was a boxer) and money,to return to the garden of eden of rural Ireland . But as one of the charactersthe widdo Tellane tells him:'' Innishfree is far from heaven Mr Thornton ''. In fact when John Wayne sees the beautiful coleen for the first time he asks:'' Is that real? she couldn't be''
The American discoveres that fighting and money are very important to the Irish peasants.
As Mrs Playfair says to John Wayne : ''Poets are so silly. Mr Thornton er you're not one I hope?''
Extraordinary how many people - especially Irish people, miss these glaring inronies and ambiguities in the great film.
