    He's always had good hand-speed. Thing with Calzaghe is that he doesn't have raw Knockout power like some people, especially American + Mexican boxers... + some English knockout artists of the past 10 years in Hatton, Naseem Hamed + Lewis (dareisay it!). Most of his knockdowns and knockouts come in later rounds becuz Joe's work-rate is so high and his opponents can't hang at that pace! And joe does 'slap' quite a bit. Having said that, I'm a Brit... and i'm rooting for Joe evn tho i like b-hop

    Calzaghe isn't the hardest puncher in the world but his hand speed and fitness more than makes up for it. Hopefully with the change in weight he will be a harder puncher now but he won't be throwing as many punches as he has done in previous fights. I say Calzaghe will win by KO in the later rounds 8th or 9th maybe.
    Any other predictions??

  • @richandgaz
    @richandgaz 15 лет назад +1

    a lot of things joe calzaghe does are not right acording to textbook boxing knowledge. he stands to square on, doesnt throw punches correctly and has a strange guard but it works for him and no one has been able to beat him

    Tell that to Kessler, Hopkins, Lacy, Eubank, Byron Mitchell and co. All the great fighters, Joe's sent packing. We'll see that Roy Jones enters that exclusive club.

    not sure who's gonna win.
    hopkins is not stupid and will be prepared.
    joe though has got to much of a work rate i feel. he'll be throwing punches like in this video in round twelve. awesome fitness.
    hopkins might soak it up though.
    love it.

    Actually I think the ref in the McCall fight as Mexican .... ! But it was a Don King Promotion !

  • @barryjamesw
    @barryjamesw 15 лет назад

    The guy who refereed the Klitschko/Lewis fight was American and let Klitschko off with a boot to the head of Lewis. Lewis was given a quick count against McCall I am certainly not anti American, I have a lot of American friends and love American boxing, but I have fought and refereed ... and I hate bias wherever I see it ! That includes the UK .... ! Any thoughts or am I being out of order here ? No racist crap please .... this ain't an anti American article !

    and wasn't the ref who took a point off Calazaghe against Lacy an American too ? Anyways I am happy to be proven wrong here as I am a fan of all boxing !

    u r right, hopkins still got it, but RJJ is shot. Omar sheika is a bum. Bhop does deserve a rematch even tho Joe "doesn't do rematches" (which usually have diff. results... ie- marquez pacquiao, marquez vasquez, but sometimes the same taylor hopkins). Not all americans are dumb just like not all brits are dumb). Calzaghe is good, but it don't take nothing away from Bhop.

  • @troutmangohead

    Oh, and if you actually watch the video, you will be hard pushed to find one 'slap'. You would have to be blind to see that there is more behind those punches than you would see in the majority of his smw training videos...

    Joe is the best Super Middleweight. I'm not discrediting him. He is the best Super Middleweight by far... he outclassed Kessler.
    All I'm saying is that the list of notable heads on Joe's win column is thin.
    Joe does slap.. it's well-known and real boxing fans know this. That's not say he cannot generate power (and yes, props to 'trout' below me, cuz it's true.. even floyd has the same problem of weak hands).. but the fact is, Joe chooses to 'slap' 90% of the time...

    I thought my comment ws about referee bias ! U also have another user name don't u ? u slag calazaghe off on this as well ! If u knew anything about boxing u would never call any fighter a coward ! Hiding behind a keyboard ain't that brave now is it ?

    He slaps and u guys think he is throwing fast combinations, those punches have no power behind them.

    when you do pads with a lefty you have to stand southpaw, to get the timing and distancing for the punch. makes no diference for the fight, when hes sparred he will have worked with orthodox lads

  • @BeezQuixote
    @BeezQuixote 15 лет назад +2

    Wow, after reading the comments i know what you mean. Based on his resume, perhaps calzaghe did not step up unitl later, but based on his skill he's a lot better than even his critics give him credit for. Mayweather's resume is made of feathers and pillows, but he was still great but untested. I think calzaghe retired in better style tho, a litlte bit, not a lot. Pc!

  • @Hs.FilmStudy
    @Hs.FilmStudy 16 лет назад

    Let's face it... Joe never put himself out there n said, f--- it, let's go 2 America until now... There are junior MWs n MWs who would make 4 gr8 match-ups with Joe... + if Joe really feels 'he has achieved all he can at SMW' why doesnt he take a swing at the best at 175 gold.. rather than looking to fight B-hop (a small LHW, who's v.good but past his prime) and Woods (Yorkshireman like myself but he's not even top 20 p4p).
    Joe VS B-Hop, is a tough + even fight.
    It's not about nationality, m8

  • @Hs.FilmStudy
    @Hs.FilmStudy 16 лет назад

    Regardless, Joe slaps... in boxing theres 10/12 oz gloves... if this was bare knuckle or 4 oz gloves... Joe'd be a laughing stock.
    Anyway, g'luck to Joe. 1 of the best boxers p4p, but he has had a career built on fighting mostly mediocrity... I mean even in the recent past, Bika, Lacy, etc were all talented.. but he never fought the big boys of America. I mean he wants Woods next (LOL- taking the easy road or what?) when Winky, Taylor, Pavlik, even RJ... would provide great fights in diff ways

  • @troutmangohead
    @troutmangohead 16 лет назад

    Wrong. Joe had a very good KO percentage earlier in his career and hit a lot harder but now has to take a lot off due to his bad hands. As a result, he has increased his workrate and he doesn't sit on his punches as much.

    hopkins is going to find this much more tougher than beating up little guys like Trinidad and De La Hoya. Ok he beat up light heavy Tarver but Tarver that night was unfocused on boxing.

  • @AuthenticSelfGrowth
    @AuthenticSelfGrowth 16 лет назад

    He looks super-fast like. They look like big 16oz gloves aswell. Not sure what size gloves they use in light-heavy weight bouts. Must be about 12oz i reckon. But, anyway joes biggest challenge i feel will be adjusting to fighting away from home. How well can he adjust?

  • @Hs.FilmStudy
    @Hs.FilmStudy 16 лет назад

    I'm not saying that 'slapping' doesn't get results. It scores points and does tire out... but I am just trying to shed light on some of the reasons Joe doesn't enjoy as much respect stateside (yes it is problematic in how the yanks expect us all to go to them.. but that's how it is).

    True but I'm not talking about this video per se. I'm talking about Joe's style in general.

  • @troutmangohead
    @troutmangohead 16 лет назад

    Joe does often 'slap' but does mix them up with some decent punches. The beauty of it is that opponents don't know when a punch is going to have pop in it.
    This isn't bare knuckle or 4oz gloves is it. If Joe did MMA then yes, he'd have to hit harder and yes, his hands would suffer because they appear fragile. It's not exactly rare in boxing. PBF has the same problem.
    I can't disagree that he's a wasted talent though. Then again, no 'American big boys' wanted to fight him at smw...
