    I said I’d watch these if you keep making them, and I’m here for it!

    It's great to see your home setup. I'm currently having pour over coffee at home (enjoying one now 😁), eventually I'd like to get a small espresso machine and a decent grinder, once funds allow it... oh and finding bench space!! 🤣 Thanks for the morning ritual Josh 😎

      ahaha yeah the bench space is the thing right! even if everything else falls in to place - I have to be diligent in the space - it's right between the sink and the stove 😂 I'll have to bring in some pourover elements soon and change up the Grinders too. Anything in particular you'd like to see on the bench being used?

      hehe... yeah, looks a little tight in that corner. If you could try a Hario Switch down the track, that would be great. I have one, but haven't used it for any immersion recipes yet, so it would be good to see it in action.

    Dialling-in that first shot from a new bag is brutal. It's nice to see someone else with the same issue. I'm hankering after that grinder, maybe with a conical burr

      ahaha yeah 😂 thankfully they were ok this morning. I'll make a further adjustment tomorrow for both again 👌 And possibly throw the conical burrs in at some point too - anything else you'd like to see on the bench?

    Would love the exact same tamping station set up you’ve got going on, do you mind letting me know the details?
    Also, I have a silivi v5 and want to upgrade my wand - what would you recommend? Xo

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад

      This is the one I have - with a slight difference as mine is the older version: alternativebrewing.com.au/products/normcore-compact-tamping-station
      I don't mind this one either - but could be a bit long for my bench: alternativebrewing.com.au/products/normcore-narrow-tamping-station-wood
      In terms of upgrading - You can get a newer version of the V6 steam wand to attach to your V5 Silvia - I've done this procedure once and - having the right tools - it's quite easy to do. If you'd like to email us at hello@alternativevbrewing.com.au our service team can get this part for you 🙌

    Good video, but using the palm tamper so close to the upside-down WDT got my stress -levels going into overdrive.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  12 дней назад

      Thanks. oh I know! hahaha ! 😂 it does mine too! Normcore have updated this design so the WDT clings on to a rise above it - out of the way and facing down now: alternativebrewing.com.au/products/normcore-compact-tamping-station

    Do you think that humidity would change the pour time as we have had to adjust the grind on our VS2 as the temp down here has increased by up to 15c lately and humidity is in the 80% mark which is rare for Tas.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад +1

      Most likely yes! - depends on how you're storing your beans too. 15ºc is a massive jump! and the humidity that comes with that - this in my experience increases the flow rate. So tightening the grind up a little each day so you grind finer will help - don't go for big adjustments - just perhaps 2-3 notches at a time per espresso 👍

    @alternative brewing, what screw do i replace the showerhead screw with so i can use a puck screen

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  8 дней назад

      This is the dilemma. You shouldn’t need to change the screw. However by adjusting the dose, and if that’s not practical- then getting a deeper(bigger capacity)filter basket will avoid the screw impeding the puck screen. You can get ultra-thin puck screens now too - they’re a little delicate but may also be the solution for you. There’s standard 1.7mm, but Normcore make a titanium 0.2mm one

    Hi, josh, i was about to purchase the pro x, but changed my mind and bought the rancilio Silvia v6 2024 and wanted ask you if i should empty the steam out of the steam boiler after i make my latte each time or just purge, there are conflicting opinions, but i thought to get your opinion since your using the pro.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад +1

      It really depends on how long you're waiting between brews. I haven't. I have emptied the tank on a few occasions on longer periods of not using it - but overall - I've used the machine for 3 years and it's required services once to replace a pump, and another time I hadn't back flushed for awhile and had to disassemble the 3-way solenoid valve and give that a good clean - but overall it's kept chugging along for me. Im using tailored water - so dumping water like that - is literally throwing away money for me - and i have not seen any drop in performance of the steam yet.

    • @anthonyzouki
      @anthonyzouki 15 дней назад

      @@AlternativeBrewing thank you for that, i appreciate it. I only make 2-3 lattes a day at the max i will just play it by ear and see how it goes, i do not want to damage it.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад +1

      @@Don_from_cairns_australia I’d say yes - it’s also not a small grinder. But compared to others its size, it’s on the quiter end. P64 I’d say is the quietest

      I'm N absolute greenhorn so I'm loving the unspoken tips I'm seeing... portafilter and puck housed on the machine..is that for partial warm up before brewing?

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад +1

      Yes it is 🙌 the machine has been on for at least 20mins before I begin using it. In that time - the portafilter becomes too hot to touch almost which is great, as it then won’t act as a heat sink and pull temperature from the brew water.

      Great series! Was that an electric shock from the Varia at 4:01 Josh?

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  15 дней назад +2

      😂 yes it was. I live in a pre-1950's home (it's known as a Queenslander home.) And there's oddities about the electricity in this place. I'll get the occasional shock off the sink - in this case i was leaning on the sink and touched the Varia - and some power points like to arc😳 as if there's an earthing issue or something. hopefully it won't kill me during a live feed !
