As a European i want to apologize for us not putting a hole next to the christian puritans on their boat when they left for America
why didn't you Euro's boot them into space?
@@avinashreji60 US of A didn't invent outer space for us yet unfortunately
Probably not even y’all’s fault and more that these women are so damn insecure that they could never stomach the thought of their partners even having a passing glance at another woman.
Oh they put the hole there according to the plan... but the Puritans thought it was a glory hole.
Don't feel too bad they would have plugged it with 🌽
I’m not usually super into sex scenes in movies- but when I hear anti sex-scene people my temperament becomes that of a french movie director. Every scene that isn’t a sex scene should be cut
We gotta add sex scenes to the sex scenes at this point. How have people gone from enjoying GoT with it's sex scenes to crying about a single titty
Yeah agreed. I often feel like they're just there to be titillating rather than to add to the story or the characters - and like, I can watch porn to be titillated.
But that - that ain't it either chief. This is some moralising bullshit I'm not on board with.
I don't mind Sex scenes in of themselves, but my opinion is that if I wanted to see a sex scene I would go to a porn site, not a movie. . .
@iaimboti Really depends on the context. It has to be meaningful..as opposed to like GoT S1 with random sex scenes like every 15mins
Yeah I don't enjoy them paticularly, but I recognise sex scenes as a valuable story telling element. The idea they're especially awful or wrong always seems a tad odd given the amount of death and suffering films tend to depict. It just seems like Puritanism
Europe: "what sex scenes in Oppenheimer?.. oh you mean the boobs?... oh come on!". America: "Oppenheimer is literally p0rn".
I live in Quebec (French Canada) and some years ago I saw a movie -- I forget which one -- which was rated R in the US and General over here.
Pretty big difference in prudishness.
@@Argumemnon WoW was rated R because you could drink ^^
Well, in America.
In Germany it was rated Teen ^.^
I don’t understand why everyone has been talking about “the sex scenes in Oppenheimer”. They last in total about 20 seconds. Don’t most movies and tv shows have sex scenes these days? What has suddenly happened to the culture to make it so puritan?
Americans are scared to go to France for that reason. Porn is casual there, for men and women.
Really? It was just some boob? Kids films have boob, here. What's wrong with boob?!
People are unironically walking into a really dark, heavy, R-Rated film about nuclear holocaust, and they're expecting it to be as family-friendly as your average Marvel Movie.
I was thinking that too! Like Florence Pugh’s tits are more offensive than nuclear holocaust. I just can’t with this
I'm not surprised. When I went with friends to see the _Watchmen_ movie in theaters there was a group in the same row as us that brought an 8-year old. We wanted to ask them if they paid the slightest attention to the movie rating. They did not make it the entire way through the movie, unsurprisingly.
The bar for family friendly is very weird these days. Last marvel movie i saw had genocide and animal abuse in it.
still don't see why a serious movie needs a pointless sex scene though
@@Idarak1 It's not pointless.
The thing about the first video I find craziest is that based on how she discussed it, she was watching the sex scene. She apparently wasn't triggered by the sex scene itself, just by the thought of her boyfriend seeing it.

Honestly, she has one thing right. America does have a serious corn problem. We put that in everything. Some More News just did a video about it, and how terrible it's been for our country's nutrition.
High fructose corn syrup instead of sugar has decreased the healthiness of American food drastically.

She says that it takes nothing away from the story when it actually does. Oppenheimer having an affair and kitty finding out about it in the trial is a big moment for them. And also when he breaks down in the woods after he learns that she committed suicide.
It's absolutely meaningful. It also shows his relationship to her as more passionate as the one with his wife

That is the nature of language though.
@@RagingRugbyst Yeah I'm probably just old. It just feels different having these large communication platforms be able to shape speech based on what's advertiser friendly at a tremendous scale. I also think it's different in that, as far as I can tell, there are no defined rules. It's just a bunch of people choosing not to say certain things because they think that the algorithm will bury what they have to say, whether or not that's actually the case.
Unaliving and grape I accept online but offline, c'mon
@RagingRugbyst Also, I think it's a sanitation of languages. You can say that's how languge works and sure, but it doesn't mean it's good or without fault just bc it inevitably change.

@@justalostlocal that's what every generation says about the younger ones though. Also, it seems to me "unalived" started as a way to refer to a loved one taking their life in a more familiar yet detached way. Unalived sounds more "informal" and thus apt for a close bond and at the same time isn't the actual word and thus shields us from the pain. That's my 2 cents. Dunno how it ended up being this overused though, and social media surely accelerates things in an often unhealthy way.

True, hail Zeus
Osiris is so much cooler than Jesus anyway.
I'll argue that the problem wasn't Christianity per se, it was
1. The Fucking Romans successfully capturing what was previously an underground and very underdog oriented religion by making it the new state religion.
2. Central and Northern Europeans having brains too puny to comprehend the concept of a religion where, fundamentally speaking, bad things happen because other people (kings, mostly) do them to you and instead spent centuries trying to crowbar dualism into it.
The term "porn addiction" really needs to die, it's quickly just becoming an excuse to pathologize all sexual behavior

I dated someone like this and they were the most controlling, manipulative person I've ever been with. That's a HUGE red flag.
what fucking annoys me the most is that porn addiction is a thing, and young boys, due to a list of reasons, might fall victim to it (which, in turn, can produce further negative consequences) but the solution to the problem is not whatever this is - this is what causes it! Fucking, god, I just can't, Nibiru take me
While I do think the "sex scenes don't add anything to the movie" argument is beyond stupid, I do sometimes feel like a sex scene or just sexualised scene is there purely for fanservice audience pandering, which I have a major distaste for in all it's forms, from unnecessary cleavage to Disney cramming in as many cameos into their shows as possible.
This is especially frequent in videogames and serialised Anime I feel, less so in movies.
The sex scene was completely unnecessary. That was a pretty bad take
How many times has she seen the Lifetime "classic" Cyber Seduction?

My Dominican mother won’t even watch a kissing scene without getting upset and offended.
This gave me a flashback to that time I watched The Room in a theater seated between both my parents. My mom jokingly tried to cover my eyes during the lengthy sex scenes. I was dying laughing.
I mean the bellybutton implication was legendary
Not to body shame this person, but their face looks like if they did a hyper realistic rendering of a mean spirited boardwalk caricature.

Corn addiction is real and the US agricultural industry is addicted to it. Corn syrup and other corn products are everywhere in America.
These jokes about corn addiction are not funny.
I'm an apothi ace, means I'm internally repulsed by sex. personally I don't like nor see a reason for sex scenes or sexual nudity in almost every single piece of media. same goes for this need to put a romantic main or subplot *everywhere* , but at least I'm aware that I'm the anomaly here since apothis in general are pretty rare. even within the a-spec.
it sucks, but I just have to live with reacting in disgust or sometimes even having a survival response to sexual topics in general. for apothis that isn't based in trauma, but in the repulsiveness/aversion. due to the strong averse reaction we just fear the possibility to be approached in a sexual way so much that the danger radar starts flaring as if it's a life or death situation. not always, but be glad apothis are rare amongst the aces. it's not fun to deal with that.
but still something that's not everyone else's problem and nobody else should blamed for.
I still think it's annoying that I have to skip parts or stop watching altogether, but that's a me-problem
Huh, I've never heard of this before. Thank you for sharing. My initial thought hearing this is there must be some underlying emotion... but it doesn't really change the fact that you feel this way. I used to feel that way and still sometimes do, but it was a whole complicated trauma thing I had to work through. I'll do more research on this!
@@MsSnoozable thing is I asked my therapist what to do to get rid of this uncomfortable feeling to outright survival defense mode reaction to mainly sexual topics and scenes.
he replied with "why do you feel like you need to be completelt fine with things that make you uncomfortable?"
basically as long as I don't make it everyone else's problem too, there is no reason for me to change a fundamental trait I have.
telling an apothi ace to be peachy keen with watching a sex scene or even porn is not much different than telling a gay person they should be completely fine with sleeping with the gender they're not attracted to.
I guess especially for apothis that strong averseness is probably also connected with the amount of sexual thoughts we produce on our own w/o outside reminders/influences or the own libido being an asshole. many apothis despise masturbation as well.
for me personally that'd be none and I'm not exaggerating. tho I'm also not just ace, but completely attractionless and have the same amount of aversion towards genitalia itself. dunno, I just think it looks gross and want it removed from myself at least.
so idk how reliable my own experiences are. I'm like an extreme case of not having any of what _supposedly_ makes us human
I hope I could give you a little more insight and sorry I tend to write *a lot* ..
The reason for using specialist terminology inappropriate to the company is the same in just about any situation; to denigrate the person you're talking to. If there's a couple people into music theory? Yeah, they should go nuts with the Schenkerian analysis or whatever. But if you use that shit to tear down someone else's taste in music, it's because 1) you're massively insecure, 2) want to make the other person feel like shit, and 3) to undermine their ability to respond. If someone you're in a relationship either tries to analyze you or pretends to be a psychotherapist, they're emotionally abusing you. There're people who're strong enough to kick through the nonsense...but that's the sort of thing that can really hamstring folks who're depending on someone to engage with them in an honest way.
I've definitely done this to people in the past and I wish I hadn't, it's a dick move
People who weaponize technical jargon from a field or subject in order to win an argument are basically fighting dirty when it comes to argumentation and debate. It's a way to make themselves seem more knowledgeable or credible while simultaneously making the other person seem ignorant by comparison, by using fancy-sounding words or phrasing to defend their points rather than relying on sound reasoning or solid evidence. A) It is fundamentally a form of logical fallacy (appeal to technicality or something along those lines if you want to give it a name - "I used fancy words, therefore my conclusion is true," or "my argument sounds smarter than yours, therefore I'm right and you're wrong.") B) It's a cheap shot way to boost your credibility and undermine your interlocutor's credibility.
(As someone who has been in arguments with my dad who is a college professor, I've experienced this tactic being used against me in arguments and it can be quite a frustrating experience. It is often used by people who are insecure and feel the need to be proven right to the point that they will reach for whatever they can use in the heat of the moment to win an argument, even at the cost of damaging their relationships with others.)
I think this lady would argue that I'm addicted to Adderall when 1.) I don't even use it every day, only when I need relief from my ADHD symptoms, and 2.) she would characterise my reasons to use it as "addict behavior".
Like, no lady, I use it because then I'm not constantly zoned out at work/life, and would you deny someone with asthma their inhaler because they "need it" to breathe?
I also have pretty bad ADHD but I'd definitely consider adderall an addictive drug cause it feels amazing.
@johncasey9544 It definitely feels amazing to me, at least in the sense that I like being capable of what neurotypical people can do. I wouldn't say I have a dependence on it though, but I can definitely see how some people could develop that.
I get the feeling that the Venn Diagram of the set of people who pathologize harmless things as "addictions" because they personally find those things inherently inappropriate and the set of people who think ADHD is "lazy-people-who-make-up-a-fake-condition-to-excuse-their-laziness-disease" is a circle.
My father would edit and re-burn dvds to remove scenes from movies. I remember re-watching one of these movies later and suddenly understanding the story, it doesn't happen often but it was pretty egregious in this case.
I know the whole "sex scenes need to have a point" is stupid and usually they don't need to but also it's funny he couldn't even recognize when he was removing critical pieces
i like how she describes tweets and comments as defending porn "with life and limb" lol

Oppenheimer sex scene was cringe. I am mostly referring to the "...I am become death"... one. I have heard that the portrayal of her exclusively as a sex object was bad (she was accomplished person herself). I'm of two minds on that though.
It is a famous line associated with him. They just decided to make the scene sexy. She wasn't treated as any more of a sex object in that scene than he was.
@@greywolf7577 Oppenheimer was the premise of the movie. A very high proportion of her scenes was her being naked. Again, I don't fully subscribe to the idea that is what she was.
@@EzraFieldsofStrawberry If the movie's focus was Oppenheimer, and Oppenheimer had a relationship with her that involved casual sex but no commitment and it wasn't his primary relationship, I'm not sure how much more characterization of her you were expecting. She's not a fleshed out character, but I don't think it was so egregious as to characterize what the film did as objectification. They clearly still portrayed her as having some level of agency. If anything, the "felt" objectification in the film precisely comes from Oppenheimer's treatment of her, and it is why we are sympathetic to her when she [spoiler redacted].
my aunt and uncle refuse to watch sex scenes because it feels like theyre cheating, but both independently think this and did before even meeting. when they started dating, either was fine with the other watching anything they wanted, as long as it was in another room. they of course only later learned that they both share this cheating feeling when seeing porn or general sex scenes. i think its a perfectly healthy boundary to set when in a relationship, to define what you might consider cheating. but dont try to change your partners view, if you really cant handle them watching porn then thats a you problem that you either need to sort out or youll have to find someone else to date
I personally find s3x scenes in films pretty awkward to sit through tbh. My wife and I usually fast forward them. Not an ideological thing, just don't like them. I'll happily watch people getting blown to pieces though lol.

Co-opting the genuine sympathy society has (finally) developed towards traumatized people, for use by people who are depressed because they were cheated on, or their relationship ended against their wishes, is despicable. Is romantic betrayal a bad experience that can leave you with feelings of sadness and emptiness long term? Yes. Is it even in the same ballpark as experiencing severe or sustained trauma? Absolutely not. This woman, and whichever therapists are enabling her by feeding her this crap, are trivializing the very real and debilitating condition of PTSD.
She made her husband close his eyes when she herself consumed the 'porn' in its entirety. Are women immune to porn addiction?
Also, if someone is porn addicted, would not he just watch porn instead of trying to comment on her posts?
Fundamentalist Christianity is really fucked in the head. I'm so glad I got out of that. Once I joked to my youth pastor "Hey, check out that hot chick" and he puts his hand up and was like "I cannot look with lust in my heart it is the same" (you know "setting the example") I had to stand in front and demand he turn to look at "the hot chick" (it was just a mannequin).

Hot take. Parents who let their 2 year old kids use smartphones should get their kids removed from them.
A 2 year old is a baby. The only thing they can use a smartphone for is watching whatever their parents decide to show them.

I had a girlfriend like this when I was 18, it was completely unsustainable and damaging. Always had to walk in public with my head down just in case I'd look at other women, head down when a sex scene came on TV etc. Very cringe.

I did a light deep dive into her content after work and I don’t think she holds her position because of religious reasons.
