In this video we do a walkaround of the car, we check the frunk, the trunk and the maximum cargo space. After that we take a look at the interior, the infotainment and sound system. Also we go OFFROAD, because this is the AWD version of the bZ4X, testing all X-Mode settings.
The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is built on the same e-TNGA platform as the Subaru Solterra.

The Toyota bZ4X AWD range is 470 km, according to WLTP. I got a real range of 350 km with a mixed use. When doing more highway kilometers, the range dropped to 270 km.
My average consumption was 20.5 kWh / 100 km, with some offroad, some urban and some highway driving. With more highway miles, average consumption went up to 22.5 kWh / 100 km.
The Toyota bZ4X has an interior in black SoftEx, our car is painted in Elemental Silver Metallic.
A lot of competitors in this EV segment: the Polestar 3, Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach E and the Tesla Model Y, to name a few.

Question! What do you think of this Toyota bZ4X? A good EV? Or are there better options out there I should consider in this segment?
1. Charging is very slow. Winter is slower.
2. Short battery life and weak power.
3. Terrible old interior.
4. Expensive price.
There are so many better options than him. This car has been discontinued in China because no one bought it at all.
@@user-gi4ww3br5k ouch... and here it is only just coming to market. Note: the AC converter is made faster, this version has the 11 kW AC, before it was only 7.4 kW or something.
@@user-gi4ww3br5k thanks for sharing this! I've read from other owners that their cars are really slow charging (42 kW DC max), while my car did 140 kW charging. Interior isn't that state of the art indeed. And for the price there are better alternatives.
@@johnnypovdrives An auto blogger's evaluation in China. It took them 38 hours to charge for a distance of 1,700 kilometers. It takes an average of 12 hours to charge in three days. A total of 12 charges.
@@johnnypovdrives This car is very temperature dependent. Charging and battery life are different at different temperatures.
I love the way you do reviews, you don't talk more than is necessary, show cool features and we can focus on the car fully, it's great.

We had 2 major software updates this summer in the Netherlands, now a real world range of 450km, for the Solterra with awd, 350km. Far more efficient EV motors, far better charging and still 10 years warranty. They had namy other issues fixed.
It was tested against the VW Id4, the Bz4x was the far better car, considering the small battery pack, a very good range of 450km. Buikd quality far better than the Id4 as well.
The Solterra was tested in awd, dual motors, against Audi's Etron q4, the Solterra was winner....far more comfort, far better quality, efficient motors and 350km real world range.

@@MihajloKukolj-ko3lb let’s start with the easy part: the camera. I’m using a GoPro with a head mount.
The hard part is getting the cars, I’ve been making car content for and with brands for many years, even before I started this channel. So it’s been a matter of building relations with car brand PR and marketing reps. Another way you could get cars is by asking garages if you could do test drives. Hope this helps!

So you went 85mph (137kmh). Is that a legal speed in the states? The UK has a max of 70mph. I usually watch videos with some audible dialogue, but I have to say that these videos are certainly to the point with no waffle. Lots of info, which some youtubers would leave out. Well-made videos.

Thanks John! I've been doing written reviews, photo and video car content for years. The first years were very hard to get cars, but now things are starting to work out with the car brands.
The charging and range for this car is way over stated. I only get 42kw max when fast charging.
Strange, I got 147 kW DC out of it.
@@johnnypovdrives The AWD models only get 100 kw max. When I charge mine at a 150kw capable station I get 42-43. This is in California and the battery below 10%. I complained to Toyota and they said this was normal. Im so disappointed in them and now Im stuck with this car.
@@tonyha9979 Here I am charging at 140kW, with an AWD model... (on another YT channel - in Dutch, sorry). Battery is at 10% at a 300 kW capable station in Belgium) ruclips.net/video/BxRR9-lykg4/видео.html So it's not normal that you get only 42 max... unless they've changed something in the cars since and this model has newer / better charging capabilities, it also does 11 kW AC instead of 7.4.

i feel like this would have been a great car if released 5 years ago... but in 2023 it's bottom of the pack. hope they can come back in a few years and do better, especially on the software front
tesla set a new standard for software/apps and they'll def be the ones to catch in that regard.
1. I think the "Ora (Funky) Cat" is sold in the UK, at least Fully Charged tested it a while ago. It looks...well...peculiar, but is yet another well (enough) built, affordable smaller EV from China, so that's something. We're gonna see many, many more of those in the coming years for sure.
2. From what I have heard/read, Toyota hated, HATED EVs with a passion and had been on the forefront of anti-EV-propaganda for years, doing everything in their power to slow down the movement. As such it does not surprise me to see such a half-hearted attempt after years of neglect. And this even though Toyota used to be an important player for decades, great value cars for the whole world, not to mention their fantastic offerings regarding the bridge technology of hybrid drive trains. Hopefully it is true what the news say and the new leadership will bring positive change to the #1 car maker in the world - the EV revolution could really use their support! 🤞🏻
