She lashes out on her family because she’s in the midst of dealing with her stress, she’s facing a battle by herself and she finds comfort in her idols. She pushes people away and scold them because the people who’ve made her feel better are very valuable to her, she feels that her idols are the one who understands what she’s going through. In my opinion, I don't think stanning many groups is a concern for her. It's just a pity that she seems care for those idols more than her own future and family. She should know when to focus on her personal life and when to be a fangirl on those groups.

Even as a Korean, I never understood Korean fanculture of wanting to date or marry the celebrity you like. they are there to make my days feel better and I am there for them to support them as good people how I can, but my life is mine and their life is theirs, and i don’t expect anything more than this. I have only been rly involved with k pop since 2020. My favourite group where I actually stream, vote and stuff are GOT7 (Aside from that also EXO and Mamamoo. For the others I am more like a casual listener). One thing I love about GOT7 is how honest they are. Some of the funnest moments is when they flatly turn down any advances from fans. You can find them attractive and all and like their character. Me even daydream about it, but it shouldn't affect your reality.

That’s true. I, myself, am very introverted and an overall very anxious person. Kpop helps distract me and alleviate the stress of my own life. I hope she doesn’t end up like me lmao.
Hope she can improve her own live as well rather than keep escaping from the world. I am myself was obsessed and had no other thought than this world for almost 6 years. But now i open my eyes and start to look after people around me and myself. Maybe she could be like that when she gets older, but everyone is different. She's an introvert and she's always alone at school and after knowing Kpop idols, they became her way of coping up and helped her to not feel alone. Being a die hard fan is fine, stanning 9 groups is fine. But you need to balance your fangirling/fanboying life and your real life...Its okay to watch their videos, but there should be a limit. Spend time with your family and friends too before its too late. Its okay to buy albums, you can buy a whole album factory if its your own earned money but please be a little considerate if you are spending your parents money because they work so hard everyday to earn it and provide for your living.
Please respect and be kind to your parents and elders, their hearts hurt watching you disobeying and being rude to them for petty reasons, and my heart hurts for those parents.

Yeah. Like I'm multifandom too and I like a lot of groups. I have no merch at all😭 my family doesn't like kpop, but I'm just as happy to be able to listen to them. I don't have many friends either but I'm happy(or I think)tbh. Other than getting made fun of sometimes, I'm fine. When she started talking about her school life I almost cried because I saw myself from a few years ago in her. I also attended a small school and got ostracized, which led me to get addicted to anime and manga, later kdramas and kpop. I was always scared of annoying people and developed social anxiety. Around 9th grade (in Germany you usually stay in the same school after elementary until you graduate) my self esteem hit the lowest point and I felt like i couldn’t take it anymore. I was so stressed that I kept fighting with my family and shutting myself into my room to watch things on my phone. It got so far that in 10th grade I did everything to get into an exchange program to the States (the accumulated costs for that, including plane ticket, were almost 10k €) so I could get away from my classmates, whom I’ve been with since elementary, some even kindergarten.
Spending a year there and coming back I realized that all of that wasn’t entirely my classmates’ fault. They naturally singled me out and me being introverted didn’t give them a reason to take me back in. I practically got invisible for them (when you’re in a group you don’t look at people outside of it, it’s normal human behavior) and you get labeled as “a lone wolf that wants to be left alone”. Me getting more and more gloomy, the more they left me out made them avoid me even more etc.
after I came back, even though I finally made friends, I didn’t know how to act around friends, what to do with friends. I’ve been alone for years and don’t know what to do with a second or third person around. I’m sure this girl will have similar problems.
Although, thanks to the things I experienced I developed a “I don’t care bout anything” personality and often just do whatever I want. And thanks to the hobbies I got so invested in I later found people who also like or liked the same things.
I hate the time I lived back then. But thanks to that I learned a lot about humans. Not being part of something gives you a lot of time to observe. Humans are simple, they like what they know, but as they get older there are more people who like more diverse things. You will sooner or later find your people, find your group that will support you and stay with you. But on the other side, as soon as you’re labeled as an outcast it’s close to impossible to get back in.
I’m sorry for my rambling, I just wrote down my stream of consciousness that led me to something completely different than what I actually wanted to write when starting this comment XD
What I’m saying is, I relate to that girl a lot but she has to make it through this in order to get stronger. She has great sisters and wonderful parents by her side, I’m sure she’ll eventually make it. I believe in her :)
(I’m actually most scared about how her classmates reacted after seeing this on tv. They could either sympathize with her and maybe try to approach her or single her out even more, maybe even start bullying her for real because teenagers are bitches “why are you overdramatizing everything?? I can relate so bad!😭 i was like that (invisible) in my class when i was in 7th and 8th grade and iy sucks. Theres no one cheering for u, no one cares for u that kind of feeling, and it even made me cry in some days. Now im in 9th grade and im trying to socialize to people well. And i figured out i just have to smile and show confidence around anybody else. Sometimes i feel that old me again and im trying not to turn to that person back. I also got low self esteem thats why i get really nervous when the center of attention is me and i got some reporting to do tomorrow smh. I know i should be confident when im studying at a science high school and everybody expects that all students there are intelligent and confident, sadly im not one of them. Im on the stage that's "trying to fit in" so i hope i can help myself out and try to inprove my self esteem. You're not alone girl, just remember there's a lot of things that u have to be inspired and be happy always🤗🤗🤗💜
Ahree Park omg I related to this post soooo much (and the girl) but everything you wrote, it’s was like watching a movie about my past in my head. Unfortunately, I’m still at the stage where I don’t know what to really do with friends once I have them (and I’m 23 now) Hopefully I’ll get to where you are as time goes by. But in the meantime I want to thank you for his post, because it really made me feel like in a way, my feelings (and possibly others’ feelings) were validated.
P.s I hope she’ll be okay with her classmates too. Kids can be vicious but I hope she can survive.
As someone who is introverted and through many hardships during school I can really relate with her. Stan Idol group cheer me up, I feel like I have friends and I can forget my problems.

I haven't finished watching the whole thing but I can tell that there is a bigger problem than her just liking Kpop idols. Many people seek comfort in stanning Kpop idols because they feel a certain kind of security. I guess all the kpop stans can agree how big of an issue is this. We all have struggles to deal with and hardships we've been through each day. These idols just happen to appear in our life to cheer us up in hard situation.
Why we can relate? A fandom is a family, they cherish you and support you. After all we have this kind of bond where we never met each other but have a lot to talk about. We have a lot in common as we stan the same group. So, being a kpop stan can really relieve your stress out. To those who have been in this condition shoul know well.
As for me, I'm growing up along with Exo as my ult, forever will be. She might love Exo as much as I am so I know how it feels. When we're so down and have no motivation, we watched their videos to keep our spirit up. They are like a charger for us. Once you get into their fandom, you'll never walk alone. That's why, being a die-hard fan became our choice.
And as for stanning more than one group. You can't blame her tho. As an Exo-L, we barely get contents and when they've a comeback SM gave them minimum promotions so we dive into another groups for more contents. Not to mention that I'm also a blink, sone, once, nctzen, army and shawol. It's impossible to stan only one group.
Lastly, for the girl. I truly can understand what you're going through. It's not a crime but if you really love those idols, study hard and be a successful person. You surely know how much Exo want their fans to prioritize our studies above all. Be a better version of you. Be a fan that the idols can be proud of. I think the best thing to do is trying to interact with her about stuff that she likes. If she likes idol then try to interact with them about their idols. A lot of teens would love to talk about what they like to others.
i think that its rlly totally fine if u wanna collect and stan kpop groups but the thing that her family members aren't rlly bringing up is that she is relying on them to escape reality. I think she can use her hobbies as encouragement and rewards but not as her life. I think she should step out of her comfort zone sometimes.

I completely agree with you, but as someone who has experienced something similar myself know, that it’s not _that_ easy.
She’s at a point right now where she can’t get out of that “hole” by herself. At the one hand she herself has to realize that her life can’t continue the way it is right now (other people can tell her that as much as they want to, it has to come from herself). At the other hand she needs people who reach out for her and, again, she has to see and accept that help.
Getting out of her comfort zone is one step, but she has to learn to be able to stay out there and find a way to “survive” without running away from her problems. If she doesn’t, she’ll run away from them all her life (because that’s what an obsession like that is, an escape).
She’s lucky to have a supportive family by her side, I believe in her to overcome this with their help :)
And who knows, maybe she’ll find likeminded people at her school thanks to this show.

I definitely have no offence against any people who likes multiple kpop groups but honestly I feel the issue isn't on how many groups the girl likes but rather getting too obsessive of kpop and neglecting her family and even turning hostile towards her parents and siblings. She was facing a lot difficulties and classmates were bullying her out of fun and their own entertainment which she chose not to talk it to her family and diverted her unhappiness to her family by yelling and disrespecting instead. I understand that her family too should have noticed what she was going through but this really isn't the right way to relieve her stress.
On the side note, I feel that there is no need for people to feel arrogant or more superior than the girl for liking more groups than her or her case is a small matter only. Every issue starts from small matters which most of us tend to overlook that became even more serious later on. This is just my opinion, no need to fight back if you do not agree.

Thanks for pointing it out. I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone has the same thought as me. Imo, the point is not how many groups we like, it is so much more than that. Besides, she spent so much money on her hobby and behaving badly towards her family. Hopefully they can solve this concern by talking heart to heart and putting more attention to each other.

Many people here are like "I stan like a million groups, why is this a problem". First of all, I myself also understand her love for these gorgeous and talented specimens very well! However, she's obviously depressed and using the idols as an escape from reality because they're the only thing that make her feel happy which is really sad. The more groups she stans, the happier she feels, maybe?
Secondly, I'm an international fan who loves and supports many groups but there's a difference between stanning and being a hardcore fan, especially in Korea. The hardcore fans are like the fansite unnies who go to every music show broadcast, know the date of births, likes/dislikes, families, favourite foods, height, birthmarks, favourite book/music/artist etc. of their idols. This takes a lot of dedication, time and money and that's why they usually only stick to 1 group. We stan many groups but usually have one ultimate bias group. But she has like 9 bias groups! If they continue letting her do this, she will grow up spending thousands of dollars on all of these idols and who knows how many more she'll start stanning because of her loneliness! I really hope she'll open up a bit more after this episode and her classmates start accepting her.

I stan only Seventeen and a ton of girl groups but I'm never like this. Stanning k-pop can be such a toxic thing but some things she said aren't valid to be a concern but screaming and trying to buy all the merch and goods and using mom's money and buying stuff your faves advertise is over board. Please remember you all have a life out of K-pop and you should communicate with your family and be nice to each other. I personally try to communicate and I only own two albums (Seventeen) but I'm so grateful for them so PLEASE remember you have a life out of k-pop. And succeeding in life because your idols is a dream come true for me, to show that I could graduate because they motivated me. I think some of fangirl can relate to this girl, I also through the time when stanning idol is everything for me, I always watch their videos, following their updates and most of my time is just thinking about them, but then I realized that it isn't good for me and people around me, I even could ignored them just because I was too focus as a fangirl. But by the time I try to lessen it and put something more important as the priority (family, my job, friend since I feel bad for them) until I successfully lessen it. But if you are so obsessed with it that it affects your relationship with others and yourself then that is where the problem comes in. There is a difference between obsessing over groups and still living a healthy life and not having a healthy life because you are obsessing over groups.
you can clearly tell she most likely has depression. this is exactly how i felt like, i found comfort in things and would lash out at my family, i would isolate myself and not taking showers for long periods of time or eat. after a while my mom took me for a checkup and ended up getting diagnosed with depression and anxiety. the girl is clearly going through something, but at the same time she has an unhealthy obsession which is not ok either.

I’m crying so hard right now, because I can feel her. I always feel lonely and get depression. Always I was just the outsider for my friends, and my family is always busying themselves. so I always looking at BTS videos in order to release my stress, problems, to be able to laugh, smile and happy. Non-Kpop fans wouldn’t know that’s those groups, idols, their lyrics and songs, are so can be precious and comfort for us. I just hope I can get a little happy, so I always watching them cuz they’re make me feel good, shown me that’s I was a important person in somehow and they’re make me want to live my life. However.. all the adults they’re saying that’s I get the depression because I don’t go outside, because I always stay in my room, because I always watching my phone, but little did they know is I already get depression because of the surrounding people, because of their careless words. I hate myself but Kpop, idols, bts, they’re shown me how to love myself. Because of them, I been able to forget my problems and stay bright, smile, laugh. I was thankful so much to them, they’re my savior for my happiness.

I honestly clicked on this video to see what idols she is a fan of, I understand that being a die-hard fan of so many idols can empty your pockets, when you don't have that much to spend you should get the "necessary items" (new album or light stick, not all the stickers/posters etc.) moderately, BUT this shouldn't be the MAIN CONCERN about this girl, she releases her stress by liking idols (I do the same, I watch their MVs and listen to their music to be happy on a daily basis). This girl is just taking it too extremely as to not go to school, not bathing, not eating, or staying up all night, I hope she transform her hobby into a more positive thing for example like "V oppa likes smart girls so I'm gonna get good grades in school for him" as some idols have experienced that sort of thing, fans gettting good grades to meet their idols. A home-cooked meal like Koreans eat is no small feat plus everything else the parents do with 3 kids in the house plus work. Somehow I can understand why she can't open up to anyone even to her family. It's easy for anyone to say "if you're experiencing hardship, you should open it up to someone" but for me it is not that easy. you have to build up courage. honestly, I'm like her before. I always kept everything to myself and because of that I became very moody and caused a lot of conflicts with my friends. It's really hard to be showy and vocal of what you're feeling if everytime you're about to open up, you'll think what if they judge me. what if they take it against me. My sympathy goes to her but I hope she could reclaim herself and start anew with her family.

the issue wasn't how many groups she liked, it was that she was using idols as escapism from how bullied she was at school, and ended up becoming so obsessed that she wouldn't eat, shower or leave her room. I'm glad now her family knows how much she had been going through, hopefully she gets better.

I don't know about other groups , but if you are an EXO-l , you should study hard or work hard for what you want to do in your life , thats what EXO taught us , and they even don't tell us to buy their albums , because they know not everyone can buy every album of theirs so they tell us to buy something good to eat or some warm clothes to wear. And thats why I stan them. Most of the EXO-ls do the same , we chase our dreams and grow with our precious boys. Don't you agree EXO-ls ?

When I saw the part about how she was always being avoided by her classmates, I started tearing up as well because, although I don't know how it feels to be hated on by everyone, I could feel her pain. Nobody deserves to be ostracized by others, it's sad.
This made me cry because I went through something similar while I was in elementary school too, it was very sad to be a victim of bullying, I had no friends at that time...

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with being a fan of multiple idol groups. That is not the issue. It's that she spends all of her time in her room, doesn't want to go to school, and mistreats her family. I can relate to her on some level, though. I'm very introverted and don't have many friends, so listening to music and watching videos of my favorite artists are an escape for me. It is also hard for me to focus on my schoolwork and take care of myself because of my anxiety and depression. I don't think it's right that she takes her anger and frustration out on her family, but I can understand why she does it. She becomes upset whenever someone tries to interfere with her interest of idol groups because they are the only source of her happiness. However, she should realize that her biases wouldn't want her to be living like this. I hope that she will receive more help and eventually become confident in herself.
