- Huge 77" snowfall from record-breaking lake effect snow emergency swamps the Buffalo Bills Highmark Stadium and forces the game to be moved to Detroit tomorrow! Vehicles buried. Lake effect snow plume lifted north to Niagara Falls today but is forecast to come back south. This is the dig out, damage survey, and pivot to chase this astounding, electrified lake effect snow plume.
You have a lot of snow, can't you send some to Germany at Christmas time?
As a born and raised west Virginian I remember snows like this and how we just nestled in and enjoyed it and made sure to be prepared always lots of firewood and candles and canned food from the summer and we kept the 4wd pickup chained up waiting in the garage for plowing when able to it was a fun time for us especially thru the holidays sure miss it and my parents and grandparents and uncles and ants happy thanksgiving every one
Yes, In Michigan too. 👍🏻

Had to leave. Couldnt take the bitter cold and deep snow anymore.
The winters haven't changed here in West Virginia. The big snows only make the news when they're reporting school closings 😂
West Virginia Gal here 👋 Those were the good ole day's for sure! We still do this when we have bad weather. I enjoy all times good or bad with my family in the mountains of WV! We have such a Beautiful State!!

Mad props to those plow drivers! To actually see pavement after all that snow fell is amazing! My dad is a retired plow driver, so I know just how much work goes into opening up those roads as quick as possible!
I've got a cousin who used to plow every winter, now he does work on the trucks and gets paid double for what he considers to be half the work. He's told me numerous times how hard it is to plow roads and he really impressed upon me the amount of work that goes into it.
I really admire plow drivers now, knowing that when they're understaffed, that doesn't mean they get the day off...it just means they work harder until there's more staff to help. I also know never to get in one's way, because some of those drivers are running 24+ hours on fast food and energy drinks, missing their families, and looking for any excuse to go home, up to and including a minor accident with an inattentive driver.
Driving is hard work?
@@eclipse369. A lot more to it than "just driving".
@@eclipse369. Extremely hard work. And you've likely never driven a rig before, so you don't understand why.
The average car takes between 20 and 60 inputs per minute to navigate a straight highway and stay within its lane. A truck rated for below 26,000 GVW, these are large moving trucks, box trucks, etc. requires between 60 and 120 inputs per minute to navigate a straight highway and stay within its lane. A person sitting down typing for 24 hours straight could not type more words than it takes inputs for a truck driver just to navigate a straight highway. It is significantly harder work than sitting at a desk, even performing the most rigorous activity possible at a desk, which is typing.
The passion this man has for extreme weather is unmatched
Dr. Reed Timmer appeared on ABC NEWS with David Muir in a brief video on the Hamburg storm via AccuWeather footage. Dr. Timmer has hit the big time in news reporting. Wonder if the networks realize he is a nationally known/if not world renown,Tornado chaser?
That's for sure!! Plus he's easy on the eyes. 🤣🤣❤️

As someone who has never experienced snow, this is a crazy sight. That flyover the Bills stadium is, honestly, a beautiful sight. Keep up the great work, Reed.
Out of curiosity - where are you geographically that snow is unavailable? I know many areas are somewhat distant from any potential precipitation of that sort… only places I could think of that’d make snow nearly impossible are some pacific islands and most of Australia - as there’s that one weird bump lol. But there are a number of far-flung places that cannot support the fluffy precipitation… and yours?

Welcome To Western New York's Buffalo Bills' Country! Of Course, Now It Could Be Known As The Snow Country. 77 Inches Of Snow Would Bury Most People Alive Today.
Yes there is a LOT of snow. But things like this bring us closer together. Anywhere you go in buffalo right now you’ll see people helping others out. It’s a sight to see in many ways. Stay safe fellow buffalonians. GO BILLS
It's great to see people helping each other out,but for some to lose electricity and their heat, things can get deadly fast.
Lots of babies conceived in this kind of weather. Yay
The Midwest does this also when snows get this bad. Neighbors ban together in shoveling parties. The elderly or those unable to help with the job, provide hot drinks and usually bake some cookies.EVERYONE works together to help fix the problem. The govt can not do it all. IT is an impossible task. Govt plows/Dump trucks work on the main roads to hospitals, emergency centers, then main roads, the primary secondary roads are next, then the areas around schools. Residential areas are last. They clear the areas with the greatest number of people within a square half mile. Shoveling parties are fun. Use plastic laundry baskets to move snow. Attach rope of something to pull it with. Have kids over five help with filling these laundry baskets, then older kids can slide them, and dump them. IF they take them to an area and start laying these blocks out like masonry/bricks, they make really cool snow forts for the kids. Some older kids (with scouts) with their dads use to put a tarp over it and use it as a overnight scout adventure. These things lasted until spring thaw. Lived in DC, where occasionally huge dumpers hit. Refugees who never saw snow would marvel and then pitch in using large plastic bowls or buckets to carry and dump snow. Sure was more efficient snow removal than walking a snow shovel back and forth. Then one of them hauled out a couple of laundry baskets and the lightbulb went off. It wasn’t just moving snow from one side of the street to another. It was an organized, concerted effort that neatly cleaned out the roadway in back of the parked cars all the way out to the other side. And stacked neater than a plow could, in half the time. Was grateful for the wake up call. Used this technique ever since. Be safe shoveling one and all!

A masterclass in storm chasing, Reed. Been watching you for years. Have never watched a vlog of yours where I didn't learn something. Chase safe . Just 60 miles north of your position . Luckily we are on the windward side of Lake Ontario. Thoughts and prayers with the good people of Buffalo and south towns who are not as fortunate.
Amazing video Reed. I love your enthusiasm whether it’s hurricanes or snowstorms. It’s contagious for sure buddy. Thanks for always sharing your adventures with us.
Home, sweet home. I worked off Camp Rd. maybe a half mile from where you stayed in Hamburg, for 16+ years and a few of these storms literally almost did me in for good while driving. Glad you made it safely through so far! Think chasing our lake effect might match up with chasing tornadoes? :) GO BILLS! Thanks for the footage!
I'm a former Buffalo resident, and I honestly miss this weather. I LOVED all that snow, I didn't like being cold though. LOL. I have family that are currently living in the Buffalo area, and one that lives right across the street from the Stadium downtown Buffalo. Stay warm guys!
Wow, prayers coming your way. I used to love deep snow and huge storms, growing up in the mountains of Utah, but I was 15, no adult worries, we just grabbed the 4x4 or a snowmobile, a pair of skis, and loved it. Now, 56 years old, that is incredible and does not look like fun at all. Good luck!
Thank you! Several people saying they wished they had this clearly don’t have a lot of adult responsibilities. This shit is not fun. It is never fun to be at home and stuck in multiple feet of snow.
I agree. It's a blast when you're a kid. Now I have to drive to work in it and that's no fun. Lol.
That would shut down many things further south. Well when we lived in upstate NY and being kids, Dad still expected us to help out shoveling the driveway. We also helped people that went off the road, to get back on again. Still had fun times building snow forts or igloos, snowball fights, sledding, and plenty of Mom’s hot cocoa with marshmallow and whipped cream on top.
You can tell these people are pros at this!! Look how clear some of the roads are already!! Great coverage 😃!
And they seem to keep the electricity going too. Many areas the power would go out.

I grew up in Colorado in the mountains. Pretty sure the most I ever saw in a single storm was just a tad over 3 feet. Biggest storm I saw while living in the Canadian rockies was 2 feet or so. Definitely never experienced anything quite like this! (and there's a reason I live in Tucson now)
What is one of the most amazing things, as someone from the south, is how the roads are passable. The road crews constantly clearing during the storm deserve a hand shake.
People who have been through it say I'm crazy, but ever since I was 7-8 I've said I want to experience this just once. Now closing in on 40, I still stand by it. We get snow, but I want build a fort with tunnels and stuff kind of snow, just once.
I've always wanted to spend the night in an igloo during a blizzard

When I was a kid we built forts and igloos what fun we had. Now in Ca. I don’t miss it as an adult...lol
I remember a few years ago my town got snow similar to this. My friend couldn't get his truck up the steep driveway so he parked on the street. The next morning we looked out the window and his bright blue truck was gone. So he's on the phone calling all the tow truck companies trying to figure out where his truck was. An hour later we could see some blue poking out of the snow. The truck was there the whole time! We just couldn't see it.

From Summit County, Ohio. I remember that one. Every 4-5 hours we went out and shoveled to keep an opening 5-7 ft wide on the 75 ft long driveway. It looked like a toboggan Shute. It was piled higher than my head at 5ft. Was told by neighbors that East of Uniontown, they had to bring earth movers in (what’s used to build freeways) to clear 20 ft tall drifts and when the snow/winds died down, helicopters were brought in to evacuate some of the Amish farms in the area. Four feet of snow on the ground, worse in drifted areas. Took us 4 days to dig our driveways and the street out so one lane was open and one car at a time could use it. Areas were created to pull over or pull off to let another car pass. By day five, the big plows came in to the suburban areas under county jurisdiction. They were surprised to see our subsection efficiently cleared for single cars to get out. They stopped and asked, so we told him- shoveling party! Gave them hot coffee and bag of cookies and with one pass on either side, the snow was plowed all the way back to the berm. That winter of 1978 will go down in the history books!
I remember that blizzard in 1978.

Definitely only small areas that got 77 inches. Looked like 3 or 4 feet in most places not over 6 feet.
I don't think any area got 77 invhed. I think the person that measured maybe measured a drift or an area where a snow plowed.. I think someone just wanted to be first in the amount of snow they got so they sensationalized it a little bit. But you are exactly right 3 to 4 ft is what I see.
So imagine the 1948 Snow Storm of 100 inches that covered five States. Pbs on RUclips WY or SD. Good watch for sure.
Wow! I will watch that for sure! Thank you!!

I remember seeing snapshots of dogs frolicking on the roof of my father-in-laws house in Lake Tahoe one winter. The snowfall had been so heavy that the snow was up to the eaxes of the house.
Now you're talking, Lake Tahoe does get massive amounts of snow but unfortunately this storm in Buffalo didn't really drop 77". I think they are sensationalizing just to get news coverage of the area and who knows maybe even claim a disaster area and get something from FEMA. I've been through a lot of big storms in my life and what I see here is about 4 ft maybe 5 ft tops in a few places. But Lake Tahoe can get 70/80 in easily in a couple of days storm when the moisture blows in off the ocean and catches those mountains!

Amazing few days,Reed. Well done. My area!!!
What do I even do now that there’s no live stream?😂😂
They definitely got a lot of snow but it is more likely between 3 and 4 feet. 77 inches of snow would completely bury cars making them non visible. Regardless stay safe and have fun digging out.
You know something, I looked through the comments and yours was the only other comment that mirrored mine which kind of cast doubt on this 77 inches story. You can see it right on the videos that the snow isn't over these people's heads which would mean they must stand over 7 ft tall 🙂. Not sure why they would sensationalize how much snow they got other than to get news attention or maybe FEMA to kick in with natural disaster money? But you are right probably only 3 to 4 ft,. I've been a little more lenient saying 4 ft to maybe 5 ft in spots..
@@joeblow26 the same reason the media sensationalizes everything, money. The more people they can get to watch/listen to them, the more they can convince advertisers to pay them.
