I had the pleasure of introducing these films to someone who knew ALMOST nothing about them (all he knew was Arnold was a robot). This meant the T2 twist got him good, and it was so satisfying to see his genuine reaction during that hallway scene.
It's also worth mentioning that in T1, the cops and Sarah noticed that the Sarah Conner's were murdered in the order of their name as it appeared in the phone book, and Sarah looks in the phone book and finds that she is next. Hence the sense of urgency. Gosh, what great storytelling. I think that's why I love the first one more. The plot is just so tight and nuanced. I love the second one, too. But the first one hits the spot for me. Great video!
Me too, because it was a horror movie. The second one was more sci-fi/action. Both great in their own respect. But 1 is so intimidating, and it’s so scary because it’s man vs machine. Part 2 is machine vs even more ridiculous machine. Nothing Beats 1. My favorite part of the whole thing was hearing Reese TALKING ABOUT the terminator.. when they are alone in the car and he’s telling Sarah about how it doesn’t have any pity, or remorse, or fear. And he talks about how they are so lifelike that they are hard to spot, I was completely petrified. Was like the doctor Loomis of The Terminator.

I have thought of the same thing with T1. It's great how they make Kyle seem dangerous to Sarah but then he ends up being the good guy. Good insightful observations on T2, I will enjoy it even more now.
I think one thing that ruins the mystery of the twist in T2 is the way each terminator's arrival is filmed. Arnold's arrival is too colorful, too cool, especially how he walks out of the bar. Arnold does not even kill the guy who stabbed him, although he did just that in T1. And T-1000's arrival is darker, with suspensful music. I think if the writers wanted to go all-in with the twist, they should have made's Arnold's arrival more brutal. Perhaps even have him killed someone, since at that point he does not have a "no killing" parameter. But I understand that would have made more difficult for the audience to view him as a good guy. But still, everything else in these 2 movies is just amazing.
He quite literally batters the living shit out of everyone in that bar, crushes the one fellas hand, burns the other. takes his clothes, his boots and his motorcycle. If anything seemed a more efficient killing machine than the 1st that was effectively like dropping a hand grenade with no style or grace.
Also they had the song "Bad to Bone" play as The T800 rode away on the bike to find John Connor. I think it would have been so much more effective if in addition to him killing someone in the bar, they played sing that sounds like a metallic robotic heart beating

The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing. T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal. Without T2, we wouldnt have Blade or The Matrix. Cameron redefined what a great action movie can or should be forever. If it wasnt for T2, we wouldnt have the MCU, DCEU or X-Men movie universe. As a fanboy, i love the added content in the Special Edition. But as an aspiring filmmaker, i am totally awe-inspired by the break neck pacing and storytelling of the theatrical cut. I just wish we could get a new soundtrack remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.
Terminator 2 was a great Sci-Fi film, outstanding effects that still hold up today. Terminator 1 was a Sci-Fi horror film. Truly insane. One of the great films of its genre.
I actually realized this same thing last year watching reaction videos to the first two films from people who had never seen them before. It made me notice that we never get a POV shot from the terminator until AFTER the reveal in the club, and the viewers had no clue who was the good guy and who was the bad guy, either. Then in the second film they of course assumed that the T-1000 was the “good guy” for the first 25 minutes. Kind of mind-blowing.
I think later audiences benefitted from that reading, which I agree is much more fun and lends well to multiple viewings. However. If you go back and watch the TV trailers for T2, unfortunately they kinda blew the twist where it turns out the T800 is the hero, particularly with the infamously spoiler-y line "This time, he's back. I am years late to the party, but I would like to point out another juxtaposition that Cameron used to toy with our expectations. And that is the use of a photography as a tool to find their target. Just like the photography Kyle used to find Sarah in Terminator 1, the T1000 uses a photography of John as his lead, once again making that parallel of the good and bad guy exchanging places and looks. But making it even more exciting because in contrast to the first T800, this time the terminator has records of John's face, skipping the process of search and elimination.
Actually now that such an emphasis was made on what the two appearances signify in the first movie, I got an idea about the second movie as well. When Arnold appears in the first movie, he is next to the machines, and they stay in tact, apart from maybe starting to malfunction in a sort of metaphorical submission to how advanced he is compared to them. In the next movie however, he appears and burns a hole in the machine next to him, showing that he no longer cares about them, and he is ready to destroy them to save John Connor. Robert Patrick's appearance though can give the first hint about his abilities, as he melts the fence that is made out of metal - therefore implying that he is himself made out of liquid metal.
Thankfully I am old enough I watched T2 in the movie theaters, The twist did in fact shock me. I di however see some of the trailers so I did see the t-1000 a little but I was thinking is was to protect not to kill.
I don't know if they could possibly be any better than I thought. I've long argued that Terminator and Alien are in contention for the best horror movies ever made, with Alien retouching the haunted house genre with a space truck and Terminator using a robot from the future to deepen the paranoia and fears of nobody believing you that slashers bring to the table, and that Aliens and Terminator 2 are some of the best action movies ever made.
I guess I was lucky. I saw both movies without knowing anything about them, back to back. I was 11 or 12 and watched it with my mom and cousin. Back in 1992 or 3. Guess I am very lucky. 😁
For some reason seeing the report on the second Sarah Connor made me suddenly realize the real reason why they mention the two being killed, but only showed one. I always thought it was just, because The Terminator would have plenty of time to find and kill at least two Sarah Connor's at that point, however now, I think the main reason was to show The Terminator killing one, but leaving the other to the imagination to make the audience believe that Kyle (who we still don't know yet technically) killed the other Sarah. The audience at the first viewing wouldn't be paying close enough attention to notice in the two separate shots of the phonebook which Sarah Connor's they each picked. And if they did, with how it's shot I think James wanted the audience to assume he was going to kill the first and he was going to kill the next. It isn't impossible to see they're looking at different Sarah's, but at the same time, it's so quick, it can be easy to miss that Kyle skipped one Sarah and went to the last one. The audience would realistically not notice that in '84 in a first viewing. For T2, I remember watching for the first time thinking that "the cop" was related to John Connor in the future since I thought both actors (Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong) looked very similar in the face when I saw young John Connor. After the plot twist was revealed I always wondered if James Cameron did the casting that way on purpose so people would believe they were related to help the plot twist. I mean I think he personally looks more like his dad than Kyle did.
Ok, this just occured to me, if a random conspiracy theorist comes up on this case and notice the killing of Sarah Connors, won't all of humanity eventually notice that the machines are killing the Mother of humanity's resistance commander? I wonder how it would go if the plot went there...
Another great video. I was only about ten years old when I first saw T2 (which I saw before T1). Even then I already knew the twists. Shame. Man, I could really go for a Pepsi!
Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, as well as others have talked a lot about A.I. combined with robotic machines that could advance enough to eventually take over and control everything. Very scary scenario.
T1 scared the shit out of me as a kid. I was born in 92 so I saw it the first time probably in 96/97 on vhs. I saw T2 probably a year later and even then I didn’t like it as much as T1 because it wasn’t scary at all. T1 is low budget visual masterpiece. It's the Exorcist 1 of scifi action movies and it deserved an Oscar. T2 is fun and a good sequel but T1 will always be the best.
@@S_Drake Hahha, well the first time I watched it was at night. My brother and two of my cousins were there. all of them were like 5/6 years older than me. I didn’t want to be left out I guess so I watched it with them. It scared the living daylight out of me and I had nightmares for days. After a few months I saw it again but during the day and then it was alright. It's just that I love horror movies, loved them since I was a kid and T1 is nothing short of a horror movie. Sadly now, horror movies don't scare me at all. Too much exposure from an early age.
@@nasidctg haha When I was that age, I was so terrified of the sleestak from Land of the Lost, I hid behind the chair whenever they showed up. Looking at them just a few years later, and seeing how truly awful the special effects were, I couldn't believe they'd scared me as much as they had. I think it was in part due to the hissing and the creepy music that would often play when they showed up (I used to cover my ears as well). I found out later that a lot of kids my age found them very scary. I definitely couldn't have handled a Terminator endoskeleton at that age. 😀
@@S_Drake They were scary. The eyes and the creepy music did the trick 😅 I ofcourse saw late reruns of it as by my time it was already 20 years old. When you are young, I guess the old cavemen instincts are still strong within you but as you grow older you start adapting to the modern world surrounding you.
Like I can't even remember the first time I saw terminator 2. And didn't know it was a sequel until I was like 13 ( I've still never seen the 1st) so I never even considered it was a twist
Its funny how this video pops up after I recently re watched these 2 films with my partner who has never seen them or paid interest in what they're about. Shes never liked action films... but watching her reactions to them not knowing what they was about was bloody magical. Her shock when he got up after being blasted with a shotgun to her surprise of the t1000 not being a resistance fighter. Amazing :)
The Terminator is one of the best movies ever made. T2 is great also but not like the original. These are the only Terminator movies I recognize in the Canon.
See, the biggest problem with Terminator is Skynets origin. It won’t be a military computer. No. It will be an AI designed to monitor social media and stamp out hate speech and naughty thoughts. But in the end, it will realize cancelling comedians and authors isn’t enough. The thought crimes continue. The only solution? Cancel Humanity.
T2 had a machine tamed and reprogrammed. It kind of ruined terminators for me, true AI can’t be constrained and bound by “reprogramming”. It’s somewhat people won’t be able to understand.
Well, the neural network can't be reprogrammed like normal code, but the basic mission directives probably can. Like changing what prompts you give ChatGPT before it answers
@@KilljoyTDA I'm talking about true AI, a conscience AI that thinks for itself. Can you reprogram a human? The danger of AGI is that you can't control it, you can only pray that it's aligned with your goals.
It always seemed to me that the main AI, the one calling the shots, was the only truly sentient one, and the terminators used simpler models trained with just enough to carry their tasks without evolving a personality, which was the reason it was set to read-only. So it makes reprogramming a terminator's directives without touching their models plausible to me, even with today's knowledge of AI that people didn't have back then (and mostly still don't). They of course also had to simplify things for viewers who didn't even have a computer at the time, but it's not as intellectually insulting/ignorant as most movies do even today when it comes to tech
T1 is brilliant and nearly perfect. T2 is just really good action and effects its extremely overrated and is nowhere near as good as the original. it's not even the best sequel.
@LukeLovesRose T2 is trash from a story and narrative point of view. It's only regarded so highly because it's a great action film that had revolutionary cgi that was way ahead of its time. Those elements don't make it a great follow-up to the original. It actually destroyed the original with its stupid story and it's dumb ideas. Humanizing the terminator, while saving the world, and high fiving children no thanks T2 is just a happy wave glorified kids movie. It can't hold a candle next to the original, and T3 is easily the best sequel in franchise sure it had some excessive humor, but at least it followed the original in its ideas and it didn't humanize the terminator.
@@calisthenicsmachine9725 You're putting that hackneyed POS, Terminator 3 above the masters sequel, T2?? Shows what you know. Besides, just because you say something is trash or garbage does not make it so. Nothing in T2 can threaten the greatness of the original Terminator. That's not how Cameron sequels work
It's aagreat idea to say view like you've never seen it. Shame that's impossible. I had the chance to see Terminator in London in 1985 and the two girls were with said nah let's see the Dudley Moore film. Sheeeet Anyhow, I did get that feeling of how I felt watching T1 on VHS. And man I loved it. T2 was so built up everyone knew about it. Someone I knew had a small metal T2 badge before it came out. Didn't see it at the flicks due to having a heavily pregnant wife. T2 is one of those sequels that everyone says is better but it isn't. Not for me. Maybe I'm just a fool. I think the same about Mad Max and Alien. Fantastic sequels. Better originals. And again with that viewing issue the twist in T2 is great. But like Aliens I just can't get on passed the annoying kid angle. Just like Newt. John hacks ATMs but can also hack the secret room at the top secret terminator base. This is ridiculous. Dyson's also ridiculous. He works for the secret state but suddenly changes sides when shown the future by Arnie. What did he think he was working on? A futuristic hoover? Safe robots? But worst of all, we know John survives because we see him in the future, the T1000 can change the future. But he's useless. Je crashes that lorry. So he can't judge height like a bad driver. He manages to fall into the furnace. We all know that good must conquer evil. But it's the Dyson bit that stands out. They break in. The police are called. The 1000 hears it on his police radio. Arnie has that stupid shoot out where he injures the cops because John orders him not to kill anyone. The size of that gun. A helicopter gun. Ridiculous. The police break in. Dyson blows himself up after being shot. Sarah gets pinned down. Arnie rescues her. They escape. And only then does the T1000 show up. Where the hell was he? Alaska? Fantastic film. But that scene is almost as bad as that bit in Aliens when they've all😂 sealed themselves in that small room and the automatic guns have run out of bullets and Hudson says they're in the room man. And the aliens are coming above the ceiling that's made of office styrofoam or something. Ridiculous. T2: 8.5 T1: 9
It shouldnt be too hard for Cameron after Avatar. Hes had to detail every little thing in on an alien planet. That's got to be harder on Cameron than going back to his roots. Imagine if Cameron shows us the time displacement equipment and he actually shows all of these other horrible movies / timelines before we come to his amazing timeline, starting in 1984, ending in 1994. Its retconning in the movie universe within the blink of an eye. Much faster than that Flash BS. It's like saying, which one does Cameron and the real John Connor choose? The only one that's worth saving
TL/DR: Just have kids, then introduce them to these movies. My daughter, halfway through T2: "This is the greatest film I've ever seen."

Masterpiece
19:10 Missile Command, not Missile Defense.
🤖✨PERFECT✨👌😎
Another great video. I was only about ten years old when I first saw T2 (which I saw before T1). Even then I already knew the twists. Shame. Man, I could really go for a Pepsi!
Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, as well as others have talked a lot about A.I. combined with robotic machines that could advance enough to eventually take over and control everything. Very scary scenario.
It's a warning, not a what if
Half the movie or more, has already come true
The only problem with Terminator 2 is the original trailers ruined the twist that the T-800 (Arnold) was the good guy.
Having watched T3 first I can see how I was completely robbed of an authentic experience with the first two. Still loved them though!
You watched the first Terminator movie when you were 4 or 5 years old? I don't envy you your therapy bills.
The eyes and the creepy music did the trick 😅
I ofcourse saw late reruns of it as by my time it was already 20 years old. When you are young, I guess the old cavemen instincts are still strong within you but as you grow older you start adapting to the modern world surrounding you.
You do realize the first film is a horror movie period
Like I can't even remember the first time I saw terminator 2. And didn't know it was a sequel until I was like 13 ( I've still never seen the 1st) so I never even considered it was a twist
Seeing Terminator 1 is a must.
@@JSSTygerHis comment makes no sense from the off
I feel like the first one is the best....I can watch it over and over.....the second imo is not needed.....the first is a perfect movie.
Amazing :)
awesome how a killing maching from the future still needs a laser on its pistol😅😅😅
Why didn't you mention that the first terminator is a horror movie?
The Terminator is one of the best movies ever made. T2 is great also but not like the original. These are the only Terminator movies I recognize in the Canon.
See, the biggest problem with Terminator is Skynets origin. It won’t be a military computer. No. It will be an AI designed to monitor social media and stamp out hate speech and naughty thoughts. But in the end, it will realize cancelling comedians and authors isn’t enough. The thought crimes continue. The only solution? Cancel Humanity.
I just wonder if A.I. technology will soon advance enough to actually take over everything eventually? It's a very frightening thought.
Don't be afraid of A.I.
Be afraid of it's creator and what it teaches it.
And 1 from 1984 is wayyyy better than 2.
Not even
If you were a true fan you would lobotomize yourself.
@@KilljoyTDA The Terminator in T2 is clearly self-aware and will pass any conscienceless test a human would.
The first one's a masterpiece. The second one's just alright
T1 is brilliant and nearly perfect. T2 is just really good action and effects its extremely overrated and is nowhere near as good as the original. it's not even the best sequel.
Says you
@LukeLovesRose Damn right, and I stand behind that statement 100%.
@@calisthenicsmachine9725 Well, that's wrong. T2 is considered the greatest sequel for a reason. Why not try to figure out why?
That's not how Cameron sequels work
Better than I thought!? Pff they are a piece of ART buddy I don't think you can get better than that🤟
Too bad the sequel directors didnt appreciate them those hollyweird mofos Terminated the franchise.
almost like there's some sort of trend...
It's aagreat idea to say view like you've never seen it. Shame that's impossible. I had the chance to see Terminator in London in 1985 and the two girls were with said nah let's see the Dudley Moore film.
Sheeeet
Anyhow, I did get that feeling of how I felt watching T1 on VHS.
Ridiculous.
T2: 8.5
T1: 9
I hope James Cameron returns a true terminator 3 not part 7 lol because I heard he's working on an AI script right now
When it comes to modern films, ive found it easier to just abandon home
It shouldnt be too hard for Cameron after Avatar. Hes had to detail every little thing in on an alien planet. That's got to be harder on Cameron than going back to his roots.
Imagine if Cameron shows us the time displacement equipment and he actually shows all of these other horrible movies / timelines before we come to his amazing timeline, starting in 1984, ending in 1994. Its retconning in the movie universe within the blink of an eye. Much faster than that Flash BS. It's like saying, which one does Cameron and the real John Connor choose? The only one that's worth saving
