I've never tested the 9.1. but I do own this 5.1 and I love it. Sound and bass are great allot better than many other 5.1 on the market including the other jbl5.1

5.1 bar's sound was set between 20/21 whereas 9.1 bar's sound was set to 17.
I think 9.1 is provides louder, wider, more detail, cleaner, more open sound than that of 5.1. But 5.1 has very good bass compared to other bars considering its output watts & price. 9.1 also has good bass.
For bass lover, 5.1 will be better also as a budget friendly option. For more balanced, surrounding & detail sound, 9.1 will be better

Jbl 5.1 deep bass set is tuned to select the lower bands near resonant one in hapf power bandwidth and its stability in frequency response graph is great(so it does not break over increase in frequency)where as 9.1 is an entertainment(mainly for cinema watching, soft music listening etc),its just a clarity with superb classic looking model.its not set as deep bass module.so not to be confused as everyone has some distinct features whenever we see an ensemble microscopically.so have a good day.wish i can buy one of these in later days.

5.1 is deep bass module to select mainly the low frequency in the given half power band frequencies and it is tuned in such a way that it can select the lower bands of frequencies below resonant one.so overalĺ low frequency response is great(gain vs frequency plot)is great towards low frequency band in half power range and its so stable wrt increase in frequency or nearly approximates the saturation in some cases though i can see from your intensity graph wrt frequency.

i think the bass should be kept 100% on both systems on deep bass test because there is a significant change in bass in jbl bar 9.1 when we change the bass from 4 to 5 but in jbl bar 5.1 there is only a minor change after bass level of 20

Do Not Buy JBL Soundbars with detachable surround speakers if your don't want to spend atleast 4.5k INR to replace battery on single speaker.
I am a Bar 5.1 owner since 2019. The main problem of the surround speakers is the battery. Over the period of 2-2.5 years, the battery stops giving backup.
To REPLACE the battery, the service/visiting charge is INR 1200/- and the battery will cost you around INR 3000/- and it doesn't come with any warranty.
So, if you are okay to spend around INR 8500 every 3 years to replace the batteries, go for it.

Should be better, right? NO. No rich sound at all on the new equipment, just the same bland sound quality, but louder than before. JBL is quickly losing to Bose and Samsung, JBL used to be the leader in sound, not anymore.

Yes.. the big difference is the sound details. Dolby atmos will give you the experience of sound coming from all direction not just left to right. The big factor is having more channels surrounding you and the height sound. Like a scene of an airplane in a movie, Dolby atmos will not just give you left to right, but also a feeling of an airplane above you.

my riff with the 9.1 is it cost nearly $1,000 USD. At that price, I will shop at full fledge atmos AV receivers and have properly placed speakers where they need to be instead of relying on "bouncing" of sound. in the 9.1 I believe the detachable speakers shoots forward and up with the up relying on bouncing the sound to make it sound directional. How effective is that in high ceilings. It's gimmicky IMO, and again at this price range, i would go with full av receiver and some budget speakers. the 5.1 is reasonable price because ive seen it from $400-500

@@ryanhe5491 JBL has nice if not one of best bass-if not the best, for soundbars. But again, the samsung 11.1 cost even more over $1100 retail msrp i believe if not more. I stop looking at soundbars when for a price I can get an AV receiver and budget if not mid grade speakers and a sub. Someone who cares enough to pay near or over $1K for a soundbar needs to stop and realize they should be looking at full AV recievers at that price. They are better in everyway except ease of setup--but again someone serious about sound to pay that much should laready be looking for an av receiver. They are also more future proof and have so much more connectivity options. The thing that makes the JBL unique above all the rest are the WIRELESS rechargable detachable surround speakers. That I feel was worth paying premium near a/v setup prices for a soundbar. Because this allowed those who dont want to run wires or show wires the ability to still have true surround sound. Just detach when needed and reattach to charge. IT's genius. But if someone is putting it in a room where wires can be hidden behind furniture etc, then that removes the BIG point of what separates the JBL from the others. Prob why they discontinued or dont push the 5.1 with detachable anymore and i see the 9.1 going same route.

@@moialder252 Yeah I agree, i just boough the JBL detachable 5.1 for a smaller room, wow its my experience even though it doesnt come with Dolby Atoms but still the sound clairty and surround exp, more importantly the BASS is trully amazing. So I presume 9.1 will be on a different level again. Samsung 11.1 is on discount right now which is similar price compared to jbl 9.1 thats why i'm thinking if price are similar then which one to go. Wireless is definitely what is keeping me thinking so long as it is hell lot more convinent where as the 11.1 needs wall mount and connection socks. but i heard the review on 11.1 sound quality is alot better than jbl.

Well, in my opinion, both are fantastic audio systems.. there are people out there who are ready to spend great amount of money just to have the best with the latest capabilities not knowing the significance of the product. Honestly keep ur 5.1 & enjoy using it. Its a great soundbar which can provide u a true surround experience. The difference in sound is not far from 9.1. The true Atmos is something we cant have in daily basis.

Honestly I don’t know how JBL can screw things up like this . Why do they keep discontinuing great sound bars ? The new 5.1 and 2.1 suck . They decided to remove all the presets , bass level adjustments and HDMI inputs . Like what’s actually going on ? My cousin bought the new 5.1 because he was blown away by how my 3.1 sounds only to be disappointed 😔

it was a niche market. There are so many soundbars and even more niche for people to care about TRUE wireless surround sound speakers. It's a premium for many casual listeners who dont mind wires showing or having it connect to the sub via wires like other sound bars.

The subwoofer on the older model bar 5.1 is heavier and has a heavier magnet on the driver than the newer 5.1 and the 9.1. I wish I could buy the older bar 5.1 model. But here it costs almost double price as the newer 5.1 model. The older bar 5.1 and 3.1 have the best subwoofers.
Please compare jbl 9.1 subwoofer and Samsung q900a or q950a or q800a subwoofer if u can. I would like to get a Samsung, but if the subwoofer is weak, then I will have to get a jbl 5.1 or 9.1. I already have a jbl 2.1, and I love the subwoofer.
