As a Canadian watching what's going on I'm awed by the integrity, the sincerity, the simple dignity of Barack Obama. He truly embodies the best of the spirit of America.
This is who we are. God, we miss you, President Obama. And yes, decency matters.
He's head and shoulders better than trump, but certainly not above criticism for his drone program and 3.5 million deportations. He didn't make it about cruelty at least.

I happened to meet Barack Obama in 2007, when I was studying at the University of Chicago Law School. We ran into each other by chance in the lift of my apartment building in Hyde Park. At the time, he was serving as a United States Senator.
Although our conversation lasted no more than a minute, he displayed both dignity and a genuine willingness to engage in a candid exchange with a student from South Korea. When the lift reached the ground floor, he held the door open and said, “After you.” He was, in every sense of the word, a true gentleman.
I love this story.
Trump would've made sure no one else was in the lift with him besides his goons and sycophants.
I was fortunate enough to have met him as he was running for US Senate in Illinois while on a campaign stop in St Louis with John Kerry back in 2004. I was reporting for my university's local radio station and noticed how he took time and effort to really think about his replies to our questions. I knew then that he was "made for the Presidency."

I'm looking at the polls right now in another browser tab....60% of Canadians favor Carney. That's the same percentage that is against trump here in the USA. The majority in both nations hold the same beliefs. So, think about that.

I have thought many times since Trump re-took the White House, that if the German people had chosen non-violent resistance en masse-rather than most either participating or looking the other way-WWII might never have happened. We know non-violent resistance works, and Minneapolis has given a master class. As painful and dark as these days are, we are-and we will-get through this. Together.
We have needlessly lost two innocent people who were supporting their neighbors, other innocent people shot and beaten, people deported and sent to prison camps here and abroad without habeas corpus -we must hold the regime accountable as in Nuremberg.
@Sbb2015 Absolutely! Justice must be served once we have removed this regime from our Government. It obviously cannot be served until we have accomplished this, because they have hijacked our DOJ and the Supreme Court. But part of healing and recovery will be the administration of justice. Our country cannot heal from this without justice being served. ICE is terrified of this, and they think covering their faces will prevent them from being held accountable-it will not! A huge part of our non-violent resistance is to document every crime. We must be compiling the evidence now. There are many facets to non-violent resistance, and they all are vitally linked.
