    Completely agree with previous comment very simplistic approach if boarding is perfectly flat square and upright .However this does not work on crappie old refurb would like to see stapler going into sand and cement work then having to be moved to adjust! this isn’t a knock but new site work is a completely different animal to refurbishments 👍

      To cut the beads we do that the same way, as far as fixing them goes, tbh, we either use scrim tape or the bead fix tape, sited to the line of the window.
      And if the windows reveals are REALLY that bad, I will either bond them straight, or dab them straight with 9mm board and follow the same process. Thanks for your comment.

      Just tack a bead straight over the top pva the walls and re skim.. advantage is you have a wooden bead to fix new bead to

    What if on side is half an inch say bigger than the other side?
    Would it not be better to measure say left side and do the right side same size then put middle on so it's square?
    Good video bud great advice thanks 👍

    How is cutting beads with a tape measure not a realistic way of cutting beads you’ve just made more off cuts. Who balances a bead with their snips to get the center…

  • @michaelburns5967
    @michaelburns5967 3 года назад +3

    So you don't eye them up with the frame or offer a level up to make sure they're straight.

      I dabbed the room so no need to on this job, but on reskims we site to the window frame, never to a level. What looks right, not what is right. However the cut and install of the beads is still the same. We just might use scrim tape or bead fix tape instead of staples.

    I appreciate the video again Alex but I cannot get these beads to stay up with multifinish it’s driving me crazy, plasterboard beads are fairly straight forward but it’s solid walls I always struggle with, best tips?? Should I put lots on and sand it after it’s dry? Which is what I end up doing and pinning it with a couple of nails. Cheers mate

      Use sticks like shit or something similar, and tack in a few places to hold while it cures. Rick solid after an hood. Sometimes i expanding foam them on and literally they don’t move a mm

    What about short length beads that a measure, ie, angled beads under staircases etc that don’t allow you you to offer it up because it’s too long and you risk scratching or marking fresh plastered surfaces???

    Great tips on your vids 👍. Just a question, would you be able to use pink grip fixing skim beads instead of plaster on internal old walls

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  2 года назад

      I’m not personally a fan tbh. It’s not easy to clean off if it oozes out and goes off.

    How about an edge thats rounded and really badly out of square? Also can you do a video on how to mix a bag of plaster to the correct consistency please? Ta

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the question. If it’s rounded being changed to square you would need to bond out the corner first.
      A similar principle with other of square if it’s that bad, bond it out first, If it’s just wonkey, sometimes it’s easier to stick the bead on with plaster.
      Regards how to mix plaster. No problem, although there are a lot of good videos on this subject.
      Hope this helps.

      If your a novice then mix the plaster up as wet as you can deal with it giving you more time.. there is no written rule how to mix plaster it's a personal preference thing however the firmer you have it the quicker it will go off and you can get in all sorts of trouble.. a good written rule is mix to a consistency like double cream so it just holds itself.. get it on the wall as quick as possible then faff about with it when you got time, don't be trying to be all neat about applying it to begin with like I did as you always run short of time there's nothing worse.. good luck

    no level...

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  3 года назад +2

      2 reasons why I haven’t.
      1. I dabbed the reveals. So I know they are level.
      2. Generally on a reskim, we match the window, instead of the level, as it’s more noticeable if the window is out of plumb.
