    NCAA scoring is outrageous this season and something needs to be done to get the quality and consistency of judging under control.

    • @kara8016
      @kara8016 Год назад +9

      I genuinely want to know if there's ever any kind of accountability or if NCAA would ever comment on scores that are so obviously wrong or make a statement after the season related to "we will focus on ensuring we maintain the NCAA's high standards of excellence" or something like that, or if it'll just always be like that now

      I completely agree. I've been watching NCAA meets every week for many years and have never seen such ridiculous scoring as I have this year. The 10's are out of control. And I've said this before, but sometimes the athlete's name (Lee, Carey, etc.) is what's being scored, rather than their actual skills. Which means "lesser known" athletes end up getting underscored even though they are just as good. Plus rewarding 10's to less than perfect routines leaves the judges no where to go if someone comes along next and really is perfect. I'm not sure what the oversight is like for NCAA judges, but something needs to change!

      I think the atmosphere can really make a difference too unless you’re just a stickler-like for Aleah, that crowd noise and everyone on their feet would make it super hard to be objective imho.

      Such an absurd comment used to cosign an absurd video..... judges are seated at the side and don't have the luxury of slo-mo.... to act as if they should be this perfect, is laughable. Those tiny leg splits would never be viewable from the table & to be so absurd that you call the NCAA judging "outrageous" is seriously so ignorant.

    i appreciate you making these videos because i too am shocked with some scorings. for example in bars sometimes, the leadoff position will do great with minor mistakes and will get a 9.75-9.8, where as the 4th or 5th in the lineup will have a similar routine based on mistakes and receive a much higher score

    • @makenziecely
      @makenziecely Год назад

      This irritates me so much! By far, the lead-off on bars (and vault, but only if the lineup starts with fulls) is judged more harshly than the other five athletes. Just the other week, LSU vs. Alabama, I saw a near perfect routine from Alexis Jeffries, yet she was only given a 9.8. If everyone was held to the same standard, not just between teams and conferences, but within a team’s own lineup, I wouldn’t have as much of an issue.

    • @hydrosphere8447
      @hydrosphere8447 Год назад

      Always the case for Amelie Morgan. Not that she's always perfect but so consistent and should be getting the regular 9.9+ her team does but she's an amazing lead off, always was in elite too, so she end up usually hovering just below 9.9. She should have earnt at least 1 10 in the past 2 years given how the scoring has been. Maybe not is proper scoring like this but ABSOLUTELY given what we have...
      I really want to see her with the respect she deserves. She's an incredible gymnast and even better person. Also an Olympic medallist but that's barely mentioned, despite medalling the same time as Grace and that being constantly mentioned. And from a team with less depth that got their first Olympic medal in 97 years. And on far from her full potential and best form after not fully recovering from an ankle injury. She used to be best on floor but never get to see it anymore since she had to take her difficulty out and not train so much to keep herself going.
      Yes I'm a definite Amelie fan. It's impossible not to be if you've followed her from her career or seen her personality. She's also the main character on a TV docuseries about gymnastics that's been running for years. The best team mate, so humble and kind and so reliable. She has a lot of the qualities grace is known for, but more so on reliability and always has been, but obviously amelie is in America for NCAA so its totally fair that ofc Grace has the national pride and been a home favourite with the same people following for years. Whereas Amelie is the alien abroad so fair, but the commentary should definitely respect her experience more, even tho it wasn't for team USA. As especially in the context of historical UK performance vs USA she's been exceptional! A key part of bringing the UK up to being genuinely competitive on the world level. (All respect to tweddle, any tinkler, the downies and the gadirovas ofc being other key figures in that. Plus Louis Smith and max whitlock for the men paving the way for Joe Fraser to lead the way now, giarni and the rest of the current boys).
      TLDR: Amelie Morgan is the queen of lead offs and massively suffers from that in NCAA. And should be given a lot more respect from the commentators and not forget she's also damn Olympic medallist, and was stood up there with grace, suni and jordan in Tokyo, against all the odds. A hugely historical achievement one given the context of the UKs relative mediocrity to this point and 1st team medal in 97 years! Plus an exceptional person all around! Needs more fans in NCAA!

The actual rule is you're allowed to take a step/lunge in the direction of your tumbling. So you can take a step back if you're doing back tumbling but she's doing front tumbling (arabian) so she's only "allowed" to take a step forward if she doesn't want a deduction. Technically it's not supposed to work like that, bonus points aren't supposed to counteract deductions. Otherwise you could get a 10 with a fall as long as your routine was hard enough. The start value maxes out at a 10 no matter how many extra "bonus" skills they have, The judges are only supposed to be grading *execution* of the skills they do. Having bonus over a 10 is more of a personal choice and/or can be useful because it means they can still start from a 10.0 routine even if they skip a skill or connection.

    This whole thing makes me really scared for the post season. Some of the teams that deserve to win just get ripped off because of the judges bad scoring. Kind of like if you have bad refs in a basketball game who favor one team and call fouls and stuff only on one team. I hate bad refs haha. I've heard some commentators say that teams used to shoot for a 49.000 on each event, and recently it's risen to 49.500's on each event. It's just crazy how with higher ranked teams literally every gymnast is getting 9.9's or above. Like, not every gymnast is that perfect, there is always small deductions. It's especially irritating when there is plain obvious slides on landings or steps/hops, yet they receive a 10. If I were the gymnast receives 10's week after week, I don't think I'd be proud of myself and think I was amazing, I'd feel like I wasn't deserving of the 10, especially if I knew I had a wobble or something that should've had a deduction. Trinity Thomas even said on some social media (I think) that she didn't think she deserved one of her 10's she got a couple weeks ago.

    clearly you do not know what u are doing. sorry but some deductions aren’t even in the code such as height. i do agree with 6 of the 8 that were judged by you but it is not a deduction to turn your feet out in the landing. in fact the judges are not allowed to deduct for that. another deduction that was not right was leg separation in the landings on vault. again, the judges do not care if you do it and the can also not see it even tho it is allowed.

    bro Jade Carey should NOT have gotten that 10 on floor i mean she so clearly stepped forward in her first pass

    Trinity Thomas is great and I used to love watching her routines. However, the scores she receives from judges these days get me upset. I can assess a perfect routine fairly accurately myself and I feel like the judges are insulting my intelligence when they just throw up tens for lesser routines. I still love watching Trinity and many others but judges Please...start judging on the routines and not the reputations. I tip my hat to you Ragan Smith for calling attention to this issue . You get a 10 from me for that. Good luck

    I am suprised you even took the time to make such a video over college gym scores at this point are such a joke and really everyone is just watching exibition routines every week as you can NOT take the scores seriously at this point. My point being that is YOU made a video with JUST the problem on the 8 TENS or imperfect Tens this week.... But what about all the 9.95's that should have been 9.875 and the 9.9 that should have been a 9.825 and the 9.85 that should have been a 9.775.... You see where I am going here... I do not root for any team really as after watching the sport for 30 years and KNOWING like you what is and what is not score worthy that I can not longer take it seriously or the results as anything that means anything. SAD but true and we all know it. Just basically watching exibitions and until they redo the scoring for college gym as well as have competent judges who are held accountable with all these now super talented former elite girls then it is just a joke to award anything to anyone based on a couple judges bad opinions on whoever they like for the week and not actual true talent and performance and true judging. It sucks as well cuz how popular the college gym has become and rivarly and crowds and you really could have something here but the judging has dumbed it down to meaningless rankings. Even an untrained eye can see this. I agree btw on Haily Vault and nothing else was a 10 but her this week. But I disagree with about 3/4 of the scores EVERY week in college gym which makes the entire thing and standings a farce....Needs an overhaul stat as it is loosing credibility to actual fans who see the BS from a mile away.

    This channel continues to attack Jade Carey with hate and resentment. Also, there is an attempt to discredit her as a gymnast. Jade has proven herself as a champion.

      Yes, I agree u can not discredit her gymnastics at all. It's not her judging that's giving the tens out. Also alot of the small always (If being picky) deductions are mostly only seen in slow mo.

      This is so dramatic. I'm a Jade fan and I agree with this video. These 10s for her weren't as overscored, but you can definitely make an argument against them receiving no deductions

      Jade is a great gymnast. That doesn't negate the fact that she's been constantly overscored throughout her NCAA career, especially this year. The bias is out of control

      @@Jess-oc5cj I honestly don't know if it's bias or just bad judging depending on the area. Jordan is much more well known but hasn't been given unfair tens (one 9.975 on a vault with a hop but other than that). I'd say the same for other former elites like Grace and Kara. I'm not sure what it is about Jade specifically that generates unfair 10s

    So are leg separations after hitting off the springboard not actual deductions in college gymnastics? All the gymnasts in this video had them (some more obvious than the others.

    • @Upstaged07
      @Upstaged07 Год назад +1

      The problem is that the judges only see it in real time, from the side. So the leg separation is not always something they catch. They don't get to watch it in slo-mo either. That's gotta be hard - sometimes I blink and miss the whole vault! :)
