It's NOT about getting the VTA RIGHT BUT to obtain the CORRECT SRA ANGLE !!!! IN a perfect world all would be good when the tonearm is perfectly level as should be the cartridge body and the perfect mount of the stylus.................THIS IS RARELY THE CASE ! SRA should be as close as possible to 92° UNDER PLAYING CONDITIONS, that means not under static alignment only . THE GOOD NEWS IS ONE CAN HEAR THIS AS WELL AS CONFIRM GOOD ALIGNMENT OF THE SRA BY MEASURING THE LOWEST INTERMODULATION DISTORTION. TRUST YOUR EARS.
I had the same issues with my Concept TT sounded very scratchy . When lowered the tone arm things got much better . Thanks for the tip ... going to check my arm by your method now..I'm really thinking to upgrade concept V2 MM cart with MC one..But it is really hard to chose without trying one...
All tables have an issue if the VTA isn't "set" correctly. This is the easiest way to check/fix it. I know what you mean about bying diff carts. You never know till its on and if you don't like it----there goes a lot of money. When ever you switch carts you have to check your VTA/tonearm. Good luck.
@@DG-ie5ip I still like it. The anti skate is just something you adjust once and leave it alone. its not a problem on this table. i like how the speed adjustment is easy. The tables where you have to take off the platter to adjust the speed are bad in my opinion. his is a really easy table to enjoy. The other arms have a magnet anti skate. on top I just have the original arm and its fine.
Having never done it before, I worried about what you said if the screw is loosened too much. Can adding a spacer piece to the cartridge achieve the same result? What is SRA? the Ortofon 2M Blue I got fitted onto my Concept seems to have the tonearm a few degrees off being parallel. Thanks for your video. Very easy And clear to follow.
Hello. Ive never done this by adding a spacer piece.. Stylus Rake Angle SRA is the angle of the cantilever to the record. SO this adjustment will adjust the SRA. If you first set your tone arm parallel to the record and check it....then adjust a little if needed--its really easy to do.. Its best parallel or a teeny bit downhill meaning the back of the arm is a teeny bit higher than the stylus end. Its amazing what this little adjustment can do.
@@peartfaldo thanks for the tip. I'm not sure if the shop I got my clearaudio concept from properly installed the Ortofon 2m blue for me. I got the tonearm parallel but the back weight seemed too far forward, making the cartridge weigh down to such an extent that the front underside on either side of the stylus point was nearly touching the record. Rattling against it at times. I have a cartridge weighing scale but I decided to do it by sight, and adjust the tonearm weight. That seems to have done the trick. I've had turntables all my life but never understood any of these adjustments until recently. Although achieving a perfect setup can drive you mad! Thanks for your help!
@@gob873 Wow. Yes the cartridge was way too heavy if the cartridge was almost touching the record. Glad you got it fixed. Once its done it done. Peace;-)
Not the case you have to line the cartridge up not the arm, the little pimple on the cartridges is for lining up! Put the pimple on the edge of the record look through the gap at the card at the spindle and that should give you the closest rake by eye
Hi John... So what exactly is a Pimple? I don't understand. Do all carts have this pimple? Where is it? - Would you mind explaining further. I'd really appreciate it... I'm trying to do my rake angle with a microscope but after messing around with it I have decided that the results are too arbitrary, inconsistent and inaccurate. For instance what to use as a baseline? How do I know that the microscope is exactly parallel to the record surface and perpendicular to the stylus, etc. Too many variables that can throw off the measurements. - Very frustrating... Looking for a better way to get the rake angle in the ballpark. Listening tests are not possible as I need to remove the tonearm each time to place washers. Too much time passes between listens. Impossible to remember sound that long. - Please help! Thanks. :)
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG... you need 92˙ angle not 90˙... if tonearm is 9 inches... raise it up for 8 mm, after you put it leveled with record, and you will get the angle you need... try it out... you will love the sound...

Excellent advice to keep it level with the record. I might also recommend a level to ensure the anti-skate is working properly.
Use a small bubble level, this can be left in place while the adjustment is made

why do some of the clearaudio concept turntable have wires at the back of the tonearm and some don't?
i think just the earlier models have it. Its a continuous wire from where the cartridge plugs in to where the rca's go into your amp.
@@peartfaldo thought so thanks mate

Hei, do you still have this turntable?
yes
