Do you see Hezbollah as a force for good or bad within Lebanon? *ERRORS* 1. I messed up at 14:52 - Hezbollah is part of the March 8th Alliance (not 14th). I knew this but made a blunder in the editing process. 2. $700 million is not 15% of Iran's GDP (it's actually less than 1%), I don't know how I arrived at that conclusion but my maths skills were off. Purely speaking on the domestic political structure, it seems to very strongly be a negative force, to a large degree acting as a parallel government siphoning away resources and competence the actual government with the legal authority actually needs. They contribute heavily to the paralysis and corruption that leads to both chronic issues like like current currency crisis and acute ones like the Beirut harbor explosion. And Hezbollah profits from the death of the Lebanese government, because as it loses legitimacy they stand to gain it, even it it's in the same way a parasite profits from the deteriorating health of its host.
I'm born in lebanon in 1979, my personnal history is linked to the lebanese civil war and all it’s factions. Your youtube channel is amazing, it describes history in a factual way without taking sides and that's so rare in the actual information landscape, on internet and even on mainstream medias. You're amazing, please keep going.
Thanks Bassem! I try my best to give as full and unbiased a perspective as possible. I still want to make a full-length documentary on the Lebanese Civil War. Hopefully early next year!
Sorry you Lebanon distorted because of Hamas . Muslims must sided with Christian Lebanese to keep their country firs, but because they sailed with Hizbola because of they are Muslim finally it leads civil war and still now Lebanon under war
I just watched a DW Documentary video that was completely one sided. I was shocked at how biased it was. Normally that channel has more objective content.
I’m a Lebanese American. I love your channel brotha. I’ve learned so much about our history specifically, and of course the history of our entire region
@Thatguy-yf5ue yes, there are many Lebanese Americans in most places in the U.S.. Most might be Christian, though. There was a famous comedic actor in the 1950s, named Danny Thomas, who founded a famous Children's Cancer Research Hospital, named St. Jude's. It's a charity that uses donations to pay for all children's cancer treatments. There were some prosperous Lebanese families when I was kid in the 1980s growing up in Oklahoma City. There names were Naifeh, Homsy, Shadid. One man named Anthony Shadid became a well respected reporter for the NY Times who died from a heart attack covering the War in Syria. The voice for the character Shaggy in the old Scooby Doo cartoons was a man named Casey Casem. There have been others too. ✌️🌎🕊🙋♂️🇱🇧
In the 06 war Hezbullah specifically did not agree to disarm. It agreed not to openly carry arms along the border. Syria was ordered to disarmed Hezbullah after the invasion of Afghanistan it refused. Then after it was forced out in the cedar revolution the new govt was asked to disarm hezbullah and refused. Then Israel tried to disarm Hezbullah by force in the war but was unable to. The face saving concession for Israel was Hezbullah not flaunting their arms near the border. And supposedly the UN could arrest Hezbullah member who violated the deal. The UN had neither the will nor the manpower to even attempt it.
Because those UNIFIL soldiers just want to spent their duty time in Lebanon as safety as they can get and not doing anything beyond their pay grade hahahaha.. For UNIFI soldiersg gathering with fams at home are more important than entangled in trouble with the Islamic Resistance.
@@albertobalanza8575 it’s a timeline. The US thought after its invasions of Afghanistan 2001 and Iraq 2002 Syria could be frightened into disarming Hezbollah.
@Notreallyhereanymoreyou call us kufr, yet we are the only people that stand up and fight for the rights of the Sunni Palestinians. Where are the Sunni nations right now? In bed with Netanyahu and the US! Literally the only people standing up for the Sunni people in Palestine are the Shia. You join a protest whereas we follow the example set by the holy grandson (as) of the holy Prophet (pbuh) of Islam, when he stood against the army of Yazid in Karbala & said that he will never submit to humiliation and made the decision to fight against injustice. Whereas Sunni militia groups like ISIS decided to shoot up a mosque in Kuwait a month ago - and stab a bunch of random innocent people in Germany. The Shia have, and always will, fight for the rights of the Palestinians, regardless of them being a Sunni nation.
nice video. I like how you mentioned that hezb fought alongside the plo in the war of the camps against amal, it's not that known. i also read i think in robert baer's book that ijo as you mentioned, was a separate organization that later merged with hezb, probably that's why hezb as an organization denies responsibility for what happened in 83. just a few points, in 3:23, 5:07, and 5:55 these are palestinian fighters not hezb, shiaa fighters usually wear the black Palestinian keffiyeh with whites stripes rather than white keffiyeh with black stripes especially in the lebanese civil war (now it's much more common, but definitely not that common in the 80s/90s). also 7:10, this is not hezb but haraket hezb al-nujaba, an iraqi shiaa militia. Also, in 2:31, this is either an amal or a psp figher and this was taken in west beirut during the war of the flags conflict. it's also important to mention that the shiaa population percentage in 1500s/1600s was much higher (around 40 %), and it was the ottoman oppression that led to the dramatic decline in population across the next two centuries. just to give you some insight, the christians in lebanon were considered as people of the book by the ottomans but the shiaas weren't (they were considered kafirs and classified as mutawlis) even though shiaas are muslims.

@@randomchannel-px6ho Thing is, the syrian "revolution" was quickly hijacked by isis and Al-Nusra and what have you, and the "rebels" had no political program, the just wanted to take out Assad as it was the goal of the west and gulf countries. I don't believe so. Jordan's leaders are Sayyeds, from the Hashemite dynasty - despite this, they are wholly Sunni. The Palestinians are also wholly Sunni. Hezbollah are primarily Shia, but have been composed of a variety of Muslims, Christians and Druze members in the past. The Saraya al-Moukawama al-Lubnaniyya 'Lebanese Resistance Brigades' were formed by Shia, Sunni, Druze, and Christians and operated during the Israeli occupation of Lebanon from 1997 to 2000. In 2013 it was reformed in Sidon, but this time pretty much only with Sunni and Shia fighters actually deployed.
No. the Palestinians are a completely different People with a completely different History and culture than the Lebanese Shia who are indigenous to the area that would later on be known as Lebanon. The claim that the Lebanese Shia are "descendants of those thousands of Palestinians kicked out of Jordan" is a lie being thrown by Zionists and their supporters because, the Zionists want to steal Shia majority South Lebanon all the way to the litani river, Ben Gurion says it even very clearly, and that was before the independence of Lebanon, 33 years later they actually attempt to land grab South Lebanon. With the violence erupting in Palestine, there is a return to the claim that Lebanese Shia are Palestinian refugees. The Shia of Lebanon are indigenous to the area, they are the 2nd oldest Shia community after the Shia of Medina, actually, South Lebanon real name is actually Jabal Amil: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabal_Amil, which is the historical homeland of the Shia, at one point in time this area would be the only area to lead the Shia world in Shia theological studies, it had a lot of libraries, a chain of great scholars, education was very supported, foreigners travelled all the way to South Lebanon in order to become the best in Shia theology, Shia Muslims were actually much more larger in number than now, but due to severe persecution from both Non-Muslims and Extremist-Sunnis the numbers diminished, the Shia Muslims of the Levant only place of existence is the area that would be later known as Lebanon. The Lebanese Shia also have a unique relation with others, you see, on many occasions the Lebanese Shia and Lebanese maronites found themselves being persecuted by the same people, the mainstream Muslim sect considered the Shia heretics and persecuted them, the mainstream Christians considered the Maronites heretics and persecuted them, each others tormenter also tormented the other, so, on many occasions the Lebanese Shia and maronites found themselves fighting the same people, moreover, 2 of ceremonial guards of the maronite patriarch are actually Shia Muslims, during the Arab revolt, the Christians were too afraid that would be associated with France, so, they fled their villages, the Levantine Shia of Bent Jbeil and Nabatieh went to them and transported them all to both Shia towns and provided them with shelter till the war ends, after the war, the rich Levantine Shia helped in rebuilding the damaged villages, this earned the Shia the praise of the Maronite Patriarch who wrote a message: "What the Shia did should be written in gold, we will never forget this, Long Live Lebanon, Long Live the Shia"
Some of them. The PLO was ousted from Jordan during black September where many went to Syria and Lebanon as refugees. Palestinians cause trouble wherever they go hence why Egypt and other Arab countries have stop letting them in.
You might notice that Lebanon is mostly mountainous and green with a mainly rocky coastline. Vehicles don't pick up dust like that in such regions. The dusting is Interntional camoulage. I would say that it is designed to minimise metal/glass reflections and lower the heat signature. It may also block cabin lighting from being seen from the outside during darker hours.

Think you got the GDP numbers wrong as well (700 mil =/= 15% of Iran's GDP). Not to mention Hezb makes its own money and runs its own assets. The claims of Iranian money are vastly overstated by both sides. For Hezb it's to foster patronship and a sense of loyalty. For those opposed it's to create a threat perception and create disgruntlement inside Iran. They are part of the March 8 alliance (Iran and Syria backed). March 8 and March 14 (Lebanon-first, pro Arab & Western leaning) are sworn political enemies with very different political ideologies and world outlook. At best they continue to be seen by most Lebanese as a foreign organisation, serving the interests of the Iranian (mainly) and Syrian regimes. At worst, and especially since their war on Beirut and the Chouf region in 2006, as well as their military activity against the Syrian oppostion and their atrocities against Syrian civilians, they are seen as nothing more than the terrorist group they started out to be.
I’m Lebanese and although I’m neutral, they are actually supported by 90-95 percent of Lebanese Shiaas and recently they have significantly gained popularity within the sunni community. Only the majority of Christians are currently against them and the Christians according to recent polls after the economic collapse make up 20 percent at most in Lebanon. Other than that, 60 out of the 128 parliament members are their allies so I wouldn’t say most of Lebanese people are against them. Atrocities against Syrian people lol? Whilst the number of Christians have been reducing since the end of the civil war, they still represent at least 35 % the population (They were just under 60% of the population at Indepedance) and that's just in Lebanon. If you were to consider the Lebanese diaspora, you can easily see that Lebanese Christians represent at least 50% of the Diaspora (even more in some countries). Many of these people say that they'll return if/when things get better again. Look how many Christians return around Christmas, and at the beggining of the summer tourist season..just as an example.
@@69columbus of course there will be no official census anytime soon because the Christians would lose a lot of parliament seats were that to happen. as for the 20 percent, it’s the current prime minister najib mikati that said that look it up. @@69columbus the prime minister of Lebanon najib mikati mentioned the 20 percent look it up. If you find him not credible, that’s something else. The votes of all Christian parties combined didn’t reach 20 percent. I’m talking about the number of votes not the actual seats won. Of course there will be no official census anytime soon because the Christians would lose half of their parliament seats. And definitely 90 to 95 percent shia support. I shouldn’t have said facts though you’re right as these are all estimates and najib mikati probably made this statement based on some survey study and not official records.

*ERRORS* 1. I messed up at 14:52 - Hezbollah is part of the March 8th Alliance (not 14th). Thank you for exposing how evil Hezbo11ah is
Purely speaking on the domestic political structure, it seems to very strongly be a negative force, to a large degree acting as a parallel government siphoning away resources and competence the actual government with the legal authority actually needs.

For UNIFI soldiersg gathering with fams at home are more important than entangled in trouble with the Islamic Resistance.

Good summary, but in regard to Syria, before accepting the media’s image, it’s important to note who will benefit from weakening the Assad regime and who is supporting and financing ISIS over there? Which entities have interest in a weak Syria and do such entities have history vilifying others and spreading false propaganda for political and territorial gains?
What your imply isn't necessarily in opposition to whay he persented. The Assad regime is known as quite brutal and opressive, and also US policy of supporting insurgents and sanctioning countried to death aka the cuba embargo strategy cannot at all be justified as morally righteous or logically sound in any humane ideology.
@@randomchannel-px6ho Thing is, the syrian "revolution" was quickly hijacked by isis and Al-Nusra and what have you, and the "rebels" had no political program, the just wanted to take out Assad as it was the goal of the west and gulf countries. One "dictator" out, another "dictator" in and in a worst case scenario a sectarian bloodbath against Alawite Shias as well as infighting between the different radical "salafi" armed groups. Hezbollah and Iran supported Assad because syria was a connection between tehran and beirut, it would greatly cut Iranian support to Hezbollah and incite Israel to launch another war on Lebanon then against Iran, another reason to keep Assad is keeping some form of official government in syria than letting it slip into violence between armed groups and sects.

So Hesballah are Shia. Are they also a descendants of those thousands of Palestinians kicked out of Jordan ?
The Lebanese Shia also have a unique relation with others, you see, on many occasions the Lebanese Shia and Lebanese maronites found themselves being persecuted by the same people, the mainstream Muslim sect considered the Shia heretics and persecuted them, the mainstream Christians considered the Maronites heretics and persecuted them, each others tormenter also tormented the other, so, on many occasions the Lebanese Shia and maronites found themselves fighting the same people, moreover, 2 of ceremonial guards of the maronite patriarch are actually Shia Muslims, during the Arab revolt, the Christians were too afraid that would be associated with France, so, they fled their villages, the Levantine Shia of Bent Jbeil and Nabatieh went to them and transported them all to both Shia towns and provided them with shelter till the war ends, after the war, the rich Levantine Shia helped in rebuilding the damaged villages, this earned the Shia the praise of the Maronite Patriarch who wrote a message: "What the Shia did should be written in gold, we will never forget this, Long Live Lebanon, Long Live the Shia"

you forgot to mention that hezbollah specifically attacked civilian targets in neutral/peaceful countries during peacetime; whereas Isreal was trying to exit a bloody war with Lebanon, had had its hand forced by the increased aggression and continued terror attacks on Isreali settlements from hezbollah.

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Lebanon is beautiful country, I've visited it in 2009, I don't know why should someone in Lebanon join such a group
European 'opinions' don't matter, and anyone who uses the word 'beautiful ' is a moron?
Israel, thats why
There’s nothing documented about any atrocities committed by them against Syrian civilians. They were fighting isis and co to protect their interests mainly the routes and their existence. You can talk all day about the atrocities committed maybe by their allies the Syrian government however. I’m talking facts this isn’t my opinion.
@@TheEroro Not only the majority of Christians, but the majority of Sunnis as well. Also..."probably" the bigger portion of Druze people. I say probably because of what I've been told by Lebanese Druze friends. The group's "main" support comes from the Shia community (as you correctly pointed out, but def not 95%) and also probably from the minority Alawite community. I agree that they have a sizable following, but in no way is it a majority of the Lebanese people. In spite of their power and control of successive lebanese governments, and their control of most of the media in the country, they still couldn't win a majority in the elections, even with the Shia community and their FPM allies voting in large numbers. Instead they end up forcing their way on everyone else anyway. As for their involvement in the Syrian war, their activity is very very well documented. But, I neither have the inclination, nor the energy, to get into a discussion on that with you. You can believe what you want to believe, and I'll do the same. Peace
@@TheEroro Just one more thing. I'm not sure how you pluck your figures and then claim that they're facts. Christians in Lebanon do not represent just 20% of the population. Where on earth did you get that figure from? There hasn't been an official sensus done in Lebanon in decades.
Also you can check the percentage of votes the Christian parties got in the last elections, it’s at most 15 percent whereas the two shiaa parties without their Allies got around 25 percent of the overall votes. I’m not talking about the number of seats but the number of votes. These are facts yes
@@69columbus the prime minister of Lebanon najib mikati mentioned the 20 percent look it up. If you find him not credible, that’s something else. You can also take a look at the number of votes the two shiaa parties hezb and amal got without their Allies and it’s around 25 percent of the overall votes.
