  • Locathah can be both incredibly strong martials as well as well rounded casters in any campaign, but in Water adventure they're even better. You can even buff them further by introducing the Soaked/Wet conditions as well as the Slippery condition for even more fun in combat.
    To see our Locathah player in action, check out our Waterdeep Dragon Campaign where we have a Tentacle of the Deep wielding Locathah Fathomless Warlock named Mako Tsunami, the Legendary Fisherman of Waterdeep, who wants to free his enslaved people who were tricked into servitude by the Broken Anchor, a network of Pirates who forced him to dive deep into the abyss for lost treasures, only for Mako to find an ancient spirit of the ocean trapped in a driftwood puzzle necklace shaped like a die. The time of the Locathah Rising is upon us! Tune in for weekly episodes of DnD 5e and meet our eclectic cast of adventurers featuring a Locathah, a Kobold, a Half-orc, and even a Sasquatch (Firbolg) as they band together to solve Neverember's Enigma and pull of some sweet heists!

      Funny enough, I actually DID leave a Clue on the Red Herring Locathah (he was branded with a hot iron in the shape of a Broken Anchor) but they didn't use their Speak of the Dead scroll to take with him so I guess now they won't know of it *was* a clue 😆

Darn proper titles! 😝

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  7 дней назад +1

      @RedRaggedFiend Sea Goblin? These boots have seen everything. I'm running a Ghost of Saltmarsh / Call From the Deep hybrid as a follow up to my current Dragon Heist campaign (also dipping into the Waterdeep DOMM if they want ro visit Skullport) and I think it's doable. If he's looking for some good reference material I'd recommend Call from the Deep - it's been on sale this last week on DMsGuild. I bought it a yesr ago and read through it, it's a FULL adventure.
      How far are you guys in your Saltmarsh campaign?

    • @RedRaggedFiend
      @RedRaggedFiend 6 дней назад +1

      @@VicariousVentures Yep, the DM and I already have already discussed Call from the Deep. Not sure if he's bought it yet or not. We recently started Salt Marsh, so the party's only completed the Haunted House and ended last session taking The Sea Ghost as a prize.

      @RedRaggedFiend Oh cool! Who's your character? It's not too kate to reveal that secretly you are ALSO a re-skinned Locathah too! Dyn dun Dunnmnn!! (Jk of course. Would make them wonder for a second before the joke landed though, haha Unless your PC is a non-aquatic race. But hey if they can be a sea goblin and there are sea elves...why not be a sea tiefling or a sea human lol)

      Nupe, just playing a vanilla dwarf (boring I know). They're a beast master ranger, swapping the beast companion bits with a more robust TCoE warrior sidekick creature under my control.

      @RedRaggedFiend Oh cool. How about **wait for it** a SEA DWARF? Haha. Is he switching to the 2024 Beast Master Ranger, then?
      I'm curious whether other groups are switching things around mid-campaign. I'm personally allowing any of my players to re-spec if they want to go to 2024 subclass options but so far peoppe seem to be sticking to their current builds (can't say I blame our Lv 3 Paladin though, he's gotten past the major hurdles of Lvl 1 and 2 and I don't think he wants the nerf to Smite 😅)

    You know, for the whale look for a race, might be interesting to update the Darfellan to 5e, the orca men were pretty cool.
    Also, if you still have it, there's the semi-official Fighter subclass that's perfect for locathah that was a limited collaboration with Riot Games on D&D Beyond though it got removed.

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  26 дней назад

      Ooh! 😍 I am blissfully unaware of Ebberon lore but I love the idea of an orca race. The Darfellan being enslaved (and enemies of) the Sahuagin gives a nice analog to Mako's Locathah people being enslaved historically by the Kua-toa (and Sahuagin), so it would be amazing for him to find some comradery with a Darfellan he encounters while investigating the whereabouts of his parents (who he unfortunately had to leave behind in a tragic flashback that's yet to occure, so I won't spoil it.)
      Is the Figther subclass you mentioned the Renegade subclass from the Legends of Runeterra: Dark Tides of Bilgewater adventure?

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 26 дней назад

      @@VicariousVentures Darfellan weren't Ebberon, they're from 3.5 and appeared in the Stormwrack book...they're basically a race of aquatic big game hunters who kind of hunt anything and everything for a good story of the fight. They're also known to prefer colder waters...
      The other thing mentioned is the Bilgewater "Sourcebook", and you can find it rather easily because several places archived it off of D&D Beyond and it's more of a pirate themed small thing that covers part of the Riot Games thing with their card game, LoL, Arcane, and others...

      @AzraelThanatos Thank you! I'll certainly try to do a deep dive into them on my own and perhaps I cam make a video on them in the future. At the very least I think they'd make for some great Homebrewed NPCs to add in. Pun intended 😀)

    Hey just an fyi, prone does give disadvantage on your own attack rolls. But by all means if ignoring that is fun flavor for your game it’s always better to change it to be fun for yall.
    Just wanted to point it out to avoid misinformation.

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  5 дней назад

      Ah, you know what, you're right! I kinda forgot since people don't to try to attack from prone and in my eyes it's worth it to stand just to avoid them getting advantage on hitting you. I think for my campaign I'm going to experiment with letting ranged attacks go off normally when prone for the whole sniper aspect.
      Can you think of a way my players might abuse that?

    • @sethazillax2553
      @sethazillax2553 5 дней назад

      @@VicariousVentures it means that being prone at range would be just benefit and very little downside which to me feels pretty meh.
      If you want the sniper vibe, I’d look at the Gunslinger class by Heavyarms. By far the best gunslinger class I’ve seen and they have a few new feats also. One of which is exactly for this, it’s called Marksman and you get to ignore the disadvantage to ranged attacks from being prone, can attack others who are prone without disadvantage on your ranged attacks, and gain a feature similar to Rogue’s steady aim.
      I played a sniper artificer in a game last year with that and it was fun without being too strong.

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  5 дней назад

      @sethazillax2553 Well, as long as they don't have too good of a range**, I could have the enemies run up and start hitting them with advantage since they're prone. If they want to move while prone it costs them double movement so they wouldn't be able to kite effectively.
      But I get where you're coming from, I'm just picking your brain.
      Thanks for the tip on the Gunslinger class. I'll totally use that to re-spec some of the Drow Gunslingers in my campaign (I run all 4 villains in our Dragon Heist campaign which means Jarlaxle's gunslingers are part of the story).
      **I know for a fact our Warlock (Mako) is mot interested in buffing eldritch blast, for example so he'll be limited to a "mere" 120ft 👀

    • @sethazillax2553
      @sethazillax2553 3 дня назад

      @@VicariousVentures The running all 4 villains sounds like such a nice buff to that story. Honestly Dragon Heist is extremely good thematically but it feels like it falls flat at times. Fluffing it up with all 4 villains and maybe increasing the level it goes to would really improve it. I hope one day I can be in a game that does what you do there!

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  3 дня назад +1

      Yeah I want there to be the game of thrones level intrigue of a multiple factions where you can try to ally or fight against mutliple villains, then they might betray you if they are an opportunist (or if they don't like another villain you've teamed up with). It not only fleshes out the worldbuilding and the feel of the city as a magnet for important people, but it also forces the players to make tough choices. Like do they want to try and take on a Big Baddie with the help of another Big Bad (the chaotic neutral opportunist for example). And it also makes it so that social aspect can win the day just as much as the combat side.
      The Alexandrian Remix does a great job of injecting a Heist for each of the villains who all now have a piece to the Puzzle. Justin Alexander's layout is a bit er...convoluted but once you've deciphered everything you really do feel like you've got the best setting ever. Waterdeep's grassroot community is amazing and the city itself has so much untapped potential.
      If you ever have a DM who's thinking of runnking it have them message me on our Twitter (Vicarius Ventures) or drop a line on one of our videos. I would love to share my content with others and pay it forward 😊

    The real question is; does wildshape reset limited amphibiousness?
    Also why do youtube DMs all seem so reticent to kill their players? You wanna pick super OP fish? Better figure out your water issue without pissing off your party too much running to the beach every 3 hours.

    • @VicariousVentures
      @VicariousVentures  26 дней назад +2

      Hm, well RAW the player retains the "benefit" of racial features, but since Locathah are one of the few cases of racial features which aren't a benefit per se, those Rule Reef Sharks may be kept at bay (at bay, see what I did there? 😎) I'd personally just allow it to just delays their timer, and they're essentially stuck in their animal form to avoid drying out which I think would be kinda funny.
      Would be interesting to see if the wording was changed for the 2024 Druid which might say they just take on the racial features instead of the "benefits".
      Honestly though the drying out thing is a non issue for me, I have plenty of magic items I have given and will continue to give him to allow him to stay hydrated.
      Even in a survival setting where he does hit the time limit I would have him make DC 15 CON saves every hour for exhaustion instead of instantly dying.
      The fact that he can Create Water and Shape Water though essentially removes any serious threat of this happening.

    • @TheLimeCrimes
      @TheLimeCrimes 26 дней назад

      Why do you take pride in killing and/or heavily penalizing your players? It's all a matter of preference. Some DMs want to form an over-arching story with a single party of PCs. Not a rotating circus, or a meat grinder, and that is their choice. Just like it's your choice to throw caution to the wind and say "Eh, whatever happens, happens. Have a back-up character, fuckers."
      Their videos show up in your feed because you click on them. If you don't like this kind of DM, don't play at their table. Or watch their youtube videos.
