    You put my driving to SHAME! I suck at Railworks, I always use keyboard controls and the HUD and I started in 2015, too. Your driving puts Matt Peddlesden look like a newbie, too! I love your videos, Peter!

      Haha, thanks! I try to drive as realistic as possible in these videos, and make these videos as tutorials to try and help others improve their driving. :)

    Mate, your videos are genius. One, you use no HUD displays, two, you sound like you really CARE about what you're doing, three, your videos have helped me loads with signalling etc, four, you could easily classify your videos as 'mindfulness', they are truly soothing (that's a compliment not an insult, I'm a recovering heart attack and stroke 'victim' and suffer massively from insomnia and your videos are perfect for watching until I fall asleep.
    Please don't stop the videos man :)

      +tdurbo Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it! I always intended to make all videos on this channel without the HUD to provide a more realistic experience for me driving and also for my viewers. I'm glad that you have found these videos both entertaining and they're also helping you with your recovery. I hope you recover more soon! And don't worry, I've got plenty more videos planned for the future when I've got the time to make them :)

    I have to say, I find these videos very relaxing, both to watch and to listen to in the background while doing something else. At first I thought it would be boring and frustrating to be stuck in the cab while someone else drives rather than loading up Railworks and doing it myself. But there's something soothing about watching the scenery go by while a calm voice explains about the route. Sometimes I rather wish Railworks had a "passenger mode" where an AI drives the train while I kick back in a coach to fulfill a similar purpose.
    I'm also quite impressed with this route. I was sort of on the fence about whether to get it or not, but now it's definitely on my list! The Class 52 is similarly excellent, particularly its amazing visibility; it seems like in a lot of diesels, particularly modern DMUs, your view from the cab is restricted by small-ish windows and instrument placement. But in this all the important gauges are neatly organized beneath a huge picture window in the front, giving you a gorgeous view of the line ahead. Sure, I imagine in a collision the driver would almost certainly be the first to die, but as long as things go well he's got a great view.

      sirrliv Thanks for your comment. I'm glad that you enjoy watching these videos :) I've always tried to offer something different and unique on this channel, so I'm making these videos in a way no one else has on RUclips.
      This route is very well modeled and put together. My only complaint is the usual complaint I have with many Railworks routes, and that is I feel it's a bit short. The scenery is great though. I agree about the Class 52, it's a great looking loco and the view out the front is particularly good. If you get it, I highly recommend also purchasing the Armstrong Powerhouse sound pack for it, as it really improves on the loco and also gives you several reskins for free.

    • @sirrliv
      @sirrliv 9 лет назад

      Considering it's a former IHH release, I imagine the AP sound pack would be the only way to make it tolerable.

    Once again great video Peter. Agree with what you say about the route, they should have added the line onto Kingswear at Paignton as well. In general it would be great to have a really nice long route, for some long distance passenger runs.

      William Mankelow I agree. Personally I'd love to be able to drive from Exeter to Penzance! But I don't know if we will ever be able to in Train Simulator :)

    Great video. The class 52 is actually my favourite cab to drive in with the great visibility. and I love the route. I think it would have been good if they extended the route to Saltash to include the Royal Albert bridge in the route.

      Thanks Jeff. The cab view in the 52 is great, isn't it? Such a clear view with a great sensation of speed. :)

    Last time I went from Exeter to Paignton the cliff collapsed between Dawlish and Teignmouth so we had to get a hot stuffy coach from Dawlish to Newton abbot in rush hour traffic. We then had to get a train from Newton Abbot to Paignton.

      @PTGRail  9 лет назад

      +bmxwaffle Haha, that doesn't surprise me. I know they often seem to have problems on this section of the route lol.

    Great video on this route, I'm a class 143 driver on this route but a few things were wrong. Mainly at stations.
    1. Trains arriving at Newton Abbot go into Platform 2 and Platform 1 if needed.
    2. Trains arriving into Paignton go into Platform 2 so they they can depart easier.
    Other wise, good video.

      Daniel Gregory I agree, the model of this loco is pretty nice and the sounds are great with the AP sound pack. The view is great, and I feel it helps with the appearance of speed too :)

    They should extend the line from Paignton to kingswear, they already have but its based in the past. Now the line is a beautiful steam railway going from Paignton , Goodrington, over two of Brunels viaducts, Churston, Greenway halt (near the home of Agatha Christie) and kingswear along the beautiful river Dart over looking Dartmouth.

    This Class 52 locomotive looks exquisite. The only Class 52 Western that I must have is the Western Hydraulics Pack from Steam. And I think that the Class 52 Western is best to drive on the West Somerset Railway with one of these Mk1 TSOs, along with Class 35 Hymeks. These coaches are from DT / AP. And it's kinda bad that there is no passenger view whatsoever but instead, I can use it with the DT Mk1s (BCK/BFK/CK/FO/RMB/SO/TSO) and the DTG Mk1s (BFK/BG/BSK/FK/RMB/SK/TSO). I just want to ride the train with Mk1s by doing the headout view, but it won't let me because they said that it is very dangerous to do the headout view due to the fastest southbound train and the walls. I enjoyed using the Class 52 Western before when I'm using the MSTS, the one from the Severn Valley Railway that is named as "Western Ranger".

    They should make a Newton abbot to Plymouth line with Totnes. And then they could make a Plymouth to Penzance line with all the branch lines of to Newquay, ST Ives and more.

    Amusing to see the GSM-R in the cab - if this scenario is set in the 70s, that's about forty years or so too early. . .

    Love this video and this loco, can you use the same loco from dundee please also what do them letters and numbers mean on the front?

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  9 лет назад +1

      Hilary Baines Thanks! :) I'm planning on doing the Edinburgh to Dundee run in a loco, but possibly the Class 40. I'm not certain yet. The numbers and letters for the train's 'headcode'. The headcode is a 4 digit code which the signallers identify the train by. In this case, '1C04', the first number shows the priority of the train. '1' means it's an express passenger train. The letter after that shows the train's destination. Destinations are assigned a letter, so Paignton on this route is 'C'. The last two digits indicate the train number. So as this is 1C04, the next train doing this journey would be 1C06. Trains in the opposite direction would have an odd number instead (1C05, 1C07 etc) :)
      There are timetable websites such as www.realtimetrains.co.uk which allow you to see the headcodes of most trains travelling around the UK :)

    Tip: Sound the low tone of the horn only at whistle boards

    • @TheWestAnglian
      @TheWestAnglian 9 лет назад

      when I'm in a train and there's a whistle board I often hear the driver do a 2 tone...

    • @purplesmurf2010
      @purplesmurf2010 9 лет назад +1

      GonzYeahGonzo British Railways rule book states that both tones must be given, between the hours of 0700 and 2300 only, to warn any person on or near the track of your approach, at whisteboards, on approach to over bridges, restricted width viaducts and other restricted access bridges, tunnel entrances and exits, traffic and foot crossings, stations where speed is 1.5 times in excess of typical approach speed of 25-30mph depending on prevalent line speed or where necessary to alert passengers in a position of potential danger ahead, stationary locomotives, entering/exiting depot buildings, before starting after being stationary for a period of time, yards and other areas where railway staff may be in attendance as well as wrong-direction movements and movements within a possession and at other times is considered necessary but in avoidance of causing nuisance to the public.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  9 лет назад

      John Warren Thanks John :) The FOV was set the same as always, but I zoomed in by one click of the mouse wheel, otherwise there as a visual bug where the cab appeared 'cut off'.

      Mark Horner Lol, I have no idea if that's a good thing or a bad thing :p Can you not play the game even on low settings? It can be quite demanding, mainly because the graphics engine is poorly optimised.

    I automatically got put to this vid from a GoKarting video from Paignton. I am not even a rail enthusiast, but the Rail aspect/size aspect does not look right. They look to narrow.

    • @ant9969
      @ant9969 9 лет назад

      +Anthony Ankrah and the horn sounds crap too. Sorry =(

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  9 лет назад +1

      +Anthony Ankrah Lol I have no idea why RUclips decided to put you onto this video from a GoKarting video, even if that video was from Paignton. The position of the window and position you are placed in the cab have an effect on how narrow/wide the rails look in relation to the loco. Having seen a good number of videos from the cabs of trains in real life, I can honestly say that this looks about right. As for the horn, it sounds true to life.. but I do think the higher tone sounds a bit pathetic lol XD

    • @ant9969
      @ant9969 9 лет назад +1

      Ok, if you are an enthusiast, and I am not, I will go with your accuracy about the rail width.
      But I aint budging on that Horn. I have driven BUSES with better Air Horns....
      A TRAIN Horn is supposed to be loud enough to vibrate the hair straight off a Fox or Rabbit in the vicinity when that bad boy lets RIP!!
      Heh heh.
      Have a good one!!

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  9 лет назад +1

      +Anthony Ankrah Haha, I tend to agree with you there about horns. There are some trains with epic horns. This one... maybe not so much :p
