The all star game is now a 2 bucket Dunk contest the dunk contest is just a facade. But we're all still here watching so something must be working
I mean, can you blame them? It's a useless game in a crucial time for the season where the teams are starting to fight for the position in the standing. If you play hard there's much more risk of injury and there's literally no incentive aside of the charity (but that's not a good incentive cause who really cares do already a lot of charity with all those money they receive, who doesn't care, still doesn't care). Maybe the only way to fix this is somehow give the all star game something valuable for the regular season, but that could bring some beef between the teams or even the teammates themselves and that's not the spirit of the weekend. I honestly can't think about anything to fix in a reasonable way this kind of game

The old east-west mix-ups had a meaning. The players were saying that our region is stronger, we are fighting in such a group. Even if you don't play these matches anymore.
US vs Rest of the world might be even more significant and have more to play for, since it invokes personal pride in their identity.
Imagine these starting lineups:
US
Lebron / Durant / Tatum / Morant / Mitchell
ROTW
Giannis / Jokic / Embiid / Doncic / Irving
But I'm sure Adam Silver will not do it because it will reveal how US basketball is no longer produces the best players.
They changed it because the west was too good. Also, players moving team and conference is more common now, so their representation is less about their team and more about the player.
@@enterpassword3313 Was too good? West only won for 4 straight and that would have been broken if it Silver wasn't a dumb turd. 2018 East was pretty stacked with Kawhi, Kyrie, Lebron Embiid and prime Giannis. East still own the west all time with 37 and West only have 29

Dont let your recency bias blind you. Theres the reason why East still have the lead even today. Its clearly not the issue and the "fix" Silver has done did nothing to address the real issue which is the lack of intensity.

They should give whichever Eastern or Western Conference team you’re playing for - that team wins this all-star game - a 5+ game’s count in no matter whether you’re playing in Western or Eastern Conference. Your Western or Eastern Conference team’s coach and management will give that person a big “go ahead”!
If this really happens, you gonna see like a play-off games all star game - the most exciting all star game of all time!
Bring back US vs rest of the world. The players would have more to prove and make it competitive.
It would also reveal how basketball development has declined in the US and maybe cause some real changes.

@@jimjim3979 US Basketball is no longer what it was, if you haven't noticed the shift. Young players are recruited based on social media hype, rather than actual scouting.
Young ballers do not know how to play team basketball or schematic defence.
Basic levels of fundamentals are lacking, with focus going to the flashy stuff that gets into highlight reels. Non highlight stuff like setting proper screens, getting into right entry positions, or even fundamental passing is getting worse and worse.
Lavar Ball's marketing of his 3 kids into the NBA has turned every kid towards all flash and no cash. Just look at all the US born #1 draft picks over the last 10 years. Few of them are ready to play compared to the rest of the world rookies. And don't even go into the topic of US big men. They can't dribble, can't pass and can't shoot compared to their European counterparts.

After every bs all star games like this, 2001 calms me down. then I go watch 1998 and 2003 really comforts me. happily my first ever all star game to watch was 2001 when I was a little kid. I think, if I only witnessed the current years and thought that it was good basketball and allstar games, I would say shame on me.

that's not accurate...I've been watching All Star games since the mid 90's, defense is only a thing if the game is close in the last few minutes. Has nothing to do with the era. they just have no incentive to play hard.

What we saw today in the all-star game was really stupid, I only managed to see until the 7th minute of the first quarter, we have to look for alternatives that make this game more exciting and competitive. It is an insult against the fans to continue presenting such depressing shows.

They need to get rid of the target score, it makes the game end so anticlimactically. I'd rather have a chance to see game winning buzzer beaters & overtimes instead of target score game winners. Plus, 24pts is too low, that's only 8 three pointers. With the rate & makes of 3pt shots nowadays, it ends too fast. That 4th quarter was shorter than the halftime show today lol. I like all the other changes though, making each quarter it's individual game & drafting right before the game, although I think the NBA is competitive enough now to the point where they could go back to the East vs West. The Allstar jerseys now have been so lackluster & plain since they don't really have a team name now, it looks like a generic jersey since it just says "Allstar" on the front now whereas back then it used to say East & West. They should at least put the captain's names on them, like Team LeBron & Team Giannis.

They should make it like Rising stars competition with 4 teams with 4 captains which would draft their team. With the target score. And it would acctually could work.
@@bamf6603 Idk about that, I'm not fan of the format in the Rising Stars competition. Fans come to see the stars, if their favorite player loses in that first round, then they're out for the rest of the night. Plus doing it like that, you won't be able to break records anymore like Tatum did with 55pts. They need to just keep it a traditional 4 quarters. But no matter the format, it's all on the players to put in some effort. I remember how people thought the target score was so good in 2020, but since then it hasn't really been good at all, because it all depends on the effort the players put in, not the format.
Really wanted more intensity at the end. Steph Lebron and Giannis missing it really had its toll
