But another word on Irn-Bru, which originates in Falkirk. When the Falkirk operations merged with the production in Glasgow, the name of their drink became 'Iron Brew'. Now, despite the legacy of iron foundries in Falkirk, there was no iron in Iron Brew, and nor was the drink actually brewed. As a result, in 1946, the makers of the drink had to change its name in line with new laws, christening it 'Irn-Bru', the drink so popular across Scotland today.
Great video but u missed one important part John Logie Baird 1st tested Televisions in Falkirk even a plate near the Howgate centre also missed Callander house in Callander Park and the Old Brockville Park formly home of the FalkirkFc known as the Bairns was 1st ever live TV FOOTBALL Floodlights match vs Newcastle United with Falkirk winning on that historic day
I went to Falkirk a few times back in the late 80's, visiting local friends who now live in Edinburgh and abroad. I was a French teenager back then, who'd fallen in love with Scotland and would later explore the stunning Highlands and Islands, as well as other parts of the country. I have one particular strong memory of Falkirk, when, on december 31st 1989, my Scottish friends and i joined the local crowds at the foot of the steeple for the stroke of midnight, in the bone-chilling Winter drizzle, thus entering the 1990's. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
My birth town that i no longer live in, but few cousins still there today. Was there 3 years ago and whow has that place changed since they closed bus station. Thanks for history and tour that place brings back good memories from 70-80s & 90s.
My town. It has really fallen on hard times, and the town centre has pretty much moved down to the retail park, but I genuinely believe one day it will shine again. Very informative video.
I really enjoyed this video. I was a student and studied at Falkirk College in 1981-83. Sadly, my College is being demolished but those were great days and the town will always hold a soft spot in my heart.
I lived near Falkirk for my first 20 years and I must say you taught me more about it in half an hour than knew all the time I was there, so thank you very much. It really is a great town and I appreciate it even more with the history thrown in.
20 metres from where you ended the video is a Heritage plaque. It reads: In 1934 a hoard of almost 2000 silver Roman coins was discovered by workmen on the site now occupied by B&M store. The coins were found in a clay vessel, together with a piece of cloth. The cloth was woven in a checked pattern using two colours of natural wool, one dark brown and one a paler cream, and is widely believed to be the earliest example of tartan yet identified. The coins cover the reigns of several Emperors, the latest being dated 230 AD, and were perhaps part of a payment to local tribes to encourage them to keep the peace. Nice way to commemorate the past by laying tarmac and building a business over the site.
My home town for more years than I care to mention! Having said that, you learn something new every day. Thank you for the walkabout and history lesson. 😊👍🏻
Another brilliant informative walk. Falkirk is a place we have visited twice but never been into the town centre so found it especially interesting. We first saw the Kelpies in 2014 driving up the M8 in a rain storm. In 2015 we decided on the way to Strathpeffer for a holiday to split the seven and a half hour drive by stopping overnight at the Falkirk Travelodge, we visited the Kelpies when they were still building the shops and went on to the Falkirk Wheel which was shut as it was then evening. In 2017 we were on holiday in Arrochar and drove over to Falkirk again, we booked a trip on the Wheel and afterwards had a good look around the Kelpies, the rain didn’t help but the wheel was a great experience. We have a great photo of a couple of workers in a cherry picker working on one of the Kelpies faces that puts their height into perspective.
A narrated walking tour is so much better. I enjoy it. I find it hard to watch the views and follow the subtitles at the same time with the other ones. Please carry on with the narrated ones, thank you.
Hi, Awesome live walk of Falkirk the town. I enjoyed it. Can't wait to see more soon. Very beautiful and historical the medieval town is. Your history lessons are always great and your walks are always enjoyable. Have a great day greetings from Canada 😀 how is your week? Mine is great 👍🙂
That's really interesting to watch. I live in Falkirk, but I'm not originally from here. I knew about some of the history but this has given a lot more information.
Really looking forward to seeing inside the steeple. I was brought-up in Linlithgow, just a few miles east of Falkirk, so I'm very familiar with this town but the steeple was always off-limits.
As a Falkirk council resident from Grangemouth I had no idea it was struck by lightning or was the third building built there well seen I never paid attention to the slabs indicating the history but I did get pictures of the potential battle of Falkirk location and got a pic of Wallace friends monument
This video is poignantly nostalgic. I tromped over to Falkirk in '90, as a mission intern in my final semester @ the Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK. Stayed at the church office in 3A Booth Place, and performed street evangelism during the week days. Having approached hundreds, the Lord enabled me to lead ninety souls to Him. That was exhilarating. Priceless. The video is reinvigorating and nourishing to my soul. Thanks much and GBY.
Pleasance? As in RDR2? XD So this leaves the question of where is the Barr factory now? Thank you for introducing Falkirk, would like to visit one day.
The original barrs factory was situated to the west side of the town centre (tanners brae ) not 100% but I think the 1 way road itself exiting falkirk 803 w was part of the original site
The auld factory was situated on Cockburn Street...there is a blue heritage Plaque on the remaining building which once hosted a mural of great barrs logo
the old factory was just behind the howgate centre on the way to the old falkirk infirmary on the righthand side of the road the new factory is now located in cumbernauld
Romans so far north, what expansion of the empire, however the monument shown at 23:16 min is VERY new, because at image of google earth, taken in 2018, it was not there yet !!
This country is bigger than anything, it was naturally formed, that's why Francis was funding the nation, while building France. This is where it all started, the original home. If you don't respect Scotland, there is no home in Europe.
The Carron Works pub was indeed an old cinema , and the horse was killed in the lightning strike on the steeple in 1927. I feel like you should remove your posts and start again.

Hi. The last I knew it was situated in CAMELON, not far from Falkirk, heading in the direction of Glasgow
Now at Cumbernauld

I am from camelon just outside falkirk thanks for the video.👏👍
You have an interesting way of pronouncing medieval, it comes out as meDeval, three syllables instead of four. 🙂
Bustling?!
The horse never got killed from the steeple in 1927...
Did kempy ask you for 10p?

The largest public art you are talking about is not in Falkirk. Just like the so called Falkirk wheel is not in Falkirk.
So how is the kelpies and Falkirk wheel not in falkirk
If you don’t no where Cameron , & Grangemouth borders are then I guess you don’t understand where Falkirk is.
