    I love your videos my guy but you have got the intro wrong. The only time you hit the palm muted open D four times is after the first note of the riff, the 6th fret pull off does not get 4 open D chugs. I heard you play it and go “man that’s not how it goes at allllll” listen to it again? Cheers my guy

      What an ass! Oh man, total brain fart. Filming the video, I felt like I could barely remember all the variations. As you can see, the tabs across the screen are correct. I apologize to everyone for teaching it that way! Yes, only the four opens once. Face palm.

    Friend of mine got backstage at a Tool show in Denver and got to hang with the band. Adam told him that triplet came from a guitar falling over and made that sound and Danny liked it and mimicked it on drums which led to Adam using that technique to fit! Pretty cool

    I think you might be adding an extra chug after the pull off on the 6th fret. It's correct on the tab, but when you say it's 4 opens for the first two, then 2 opens for the second two, it's actually supposed to be 4 for the first one, then 2 for all the others. If that makes sense?

    Last year I saw Tool in Fairfax VA. Took my son to the show and even got VIP passes. Those passes meant we got to hear Adam talk for an hour and play his guitar standing maybe 10 feet from us. We were in the 2nd row of chairs they made rows of on the mezzanine. Now I'm not saying I couldn't be wrong, but I am 99% sure that when he showed everyone how he played the intro to Jambi he showed how he rakes his finger (left hand) across the E, A and D strings. Ben Eller did a tutorial on this be he too only rakes the E and A. Anyway, I would love if Adam himself would clear this up. All I know is, that night after the show I went right to my guitar to try what he'd shown. Again, I could be wrong and that's cool, but I'm pretty certain on this one.

      If you rake D, A and the other d you get a quadruplet, not a triplet, because you get the picked note and then the three pull offs. D and A is the correct way, since you get a triplet, composed of picked note and then the two pull offs.

    • @Jeff_H_the_Guitarist
      @Jeff_H_the_Guitarist 5 лет назад

      @@thebatman1482 I just found Adam on RUclips explaining how this technique came about. He refers to it as a triplet pull-off. This is clearly a recording of one of the talks for VIP ticket holders before the show. The explanation starts at 40.23 but it's at 40.31 you can hear how he's just slammed his fretting finger on the 3rd fret playing an F chord. It's what happens next that is the Genesis of the Triplet pull-off. The 3rd fret chord is ringing out and his finger then slides down across the 6th, 5th and 4th strings giving you a triplet. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I can hear the three strings clearly. Palm muted a bit with the right hand of course, but clearly you can hear the tonal quality of the 4th string in there.
      Here's the link to video where you can hear Adam is hitting 6th, 5th, 4th strings in his Triplet Pull-off:

      @@Jeff_H_the_Guitarist He does both in that video you linked. He does actually pull off three strings the first two times, but then he goes back to two strings. When he kicks in the gain it's also two strings. I don't think he has ever used the three strings pull off in one of his songs, but maybe with this new album...
